Hahaha Or just insane It must be the biggest topic for single boat. A very interest record of reconstruction and the thoughts of the owner. Well done Tim. But why so much over a GREEN TRICYCLE.
  7. Sat morning hooked the PT on the tow bar, went to the job to witness a crane test. Parked the car and boat in the car park, still at 6:00 pm. Missed the race day. Good breeze, great for the overweight skipper.
  8. get a dingy and clean one half of the bottom.
  9. Knot much in my archives, but this is a 950 been tested. There is a video around somewhere, I;ill get looking. On the bigger boats a crane attached to the keel to tip them over. It looks like the 950 is pulled over from the rig.
  10. so is there a bottle of rum on for the 90 degree hold down value? My guest 100kg.
  11. There are 2 types of righting tests. The open 60's do they tests completely empty, no rig, just the skipper on board to manually cant the keel to start the righting movement. Not sure but the VO70's may be done this way as weel. The Class 40's and 950's are light ships with rigs, they are craned over and the scales/load cells attached to the mast head.
  12. Washed two cars, walked the dog at the river, washed the drive, worked. Almost forgot went to the "Ramp" Friday evening and brought fish & chips.

  15. Is that why I am deaf now, I put it down as industrial damage to get the hearing aids. Good move about getting the history together., lots a NZ boats and designs have just disappeared with not records of them ever existing except in the old grey cells of people.
  16. I was on her or Sundreamer during a Cow & Calf, Navy Buoy Richmond race late 70's early 80's. If I can remember correctly we did Navy buoy - Rangi light in something like18/20 minutes. Thats about 30 knots. I was in the leeward hull trimming the headsail, mostly underwater, its was blowing a good nor-easterly, but the apparent wind was right around on the port bow. We overtook a keeler like it was standing still
  17. All I can say is that Bing Maps are sharper that google Earth & Maps
  18. Bit more searching. From http://www.cruisingconnections.co.za/sailinglogs3.htm The seas around the atoll are particularly bad, rough with strong backwashes and currents, and the island is littered with wrecks. I knew of four ships and three yachts that ended up on the surrounding reefs. One of the wrecks I was determined to visit as it was the remains of a 25 meter catamaran that was being delivered on its maiden voyage from the builders in New Zealand to the Philippines, and belonged to the Marcos family, the then head of state. I had been asked by a number of islanders to visit t
  19. Is Christmas Island correct, the one in the India ocean or is there another in the Pacific? From the photos there appears to be flat land all round the boat, but Christmas Island is mainly cliffs and not many beaches. Just read the article again, there is something fishy Christmas Islands is not 660 miles from the Cooks. "Christmas Island The conditions we faced during this passage were being spawned by one of nature’s most malignant children, El Nino. The world would later learn that the 1982-83 El Nino caused countless millions of dollars-worth of damage; the trade winds stoppe
