    I bit the bullet and bought the vesper splitter box and gps aerial hooked it all up plugged in mmsi no and yee ha it all works great.Im not used to having anything flash so its quite exciting,will help me sleep while sailing

    I have a 20 mm bowsprit bolt which came out in two pieces only place on boat with anything important hidden in wood.no chainplates on my old steel boat.

    I did the south island this year in a 31 footer and am taking her to the chatham in feb,small boats are really easy to sail and reef a lot easier to handle than a fifty foot monster.When i was a kid we did the island circut most of the boats were 37 foot or smaller.my boat is steel with small windows so pretty hard to sink.

    Thanks for that vhf worked well around stewart island and fiordland this year so i guess its ok,thinking about getting proper splitter now it makes sense.Im just a bit of a tight arse,would rather be cruising than working.

    Thanks IT my vhf aerial is on top of my mast if i use that just for the ais surely it cant get any better? I have a hand held i can use for forecasts and transmitting so thats ok i only use it for forecasts mainly anyway

    Yea cant justify it i have to buy a gps aerial as well as it will be mounted inside steel hull,plug and play yea right

    Thanks for that am thinking i might just disconnect my vhf and plug aerial straight in to unit ,i have a hand held i can use to transmit cheers

    Ive bitten the bullet and purchased one of these units i thought i would just use a 30 dollar aerial splitter fron burnsco but instructions say to buy one of their units for 430 bucks.Does anyone know how much difference a cheap one would make,would it still work?cheers

    Wheels my main is in a track and i have a stack pac.personally i wouldnt bother with one they have no advantage over a decent set of lazy jacks ane the lines snag my full length batton when im raising the main.

    I had a seabird 2.6 35 years ago spent every afternoon sailing her great dinks she was in the water so much she got osmosis finally got stolen up a river in oz great safe dinks just very heavy

    Used one for 6 weeks earlier this year with only the small aerial,urther south we went worse it worked,we were only sending texts on it and sometimes had a 20 min lag.For what they cost to run i would get a satphone next time.

    I have a tmc pumps always getting sticky even after a service ran out of cooking oil for lube while away so tried bbaby oil and dettol my repellent and it works brilliantly,would buy a jabsco next time though just for ease of servicing

    Just want stand alone unit in case tablet dies i know its always good to buy the best but sailings only my hobby not doing it full time,and im not loaded with spare cash.Will check out the vesper unit though thanks,

    Im not very computer savvy just want a plug and play version with its own screen i navigate with a samsung tablet and are trying to keep things simple.what units would you reccomend?

    I see ebay has matsutec ais transponders under 600 dollars has anyone had any experience with these

    Best you dont travel to west island then its covered in those bloody things

    Its a steel keel tank with a steel lid would sikaflex still be ok have used on other fittings and havent noticed any corrosion

    Is sika flex ok to seal my watertank lid down or is there a better product

    Have just been down southland where there are virtually no rules i feel the further north you go the more your freedom is taken away.For example if you want a mooring in southland you just put one down anywhere even stewart island no resource consent nothing.Auckland sounds like a terrible place to live I like to visit but no way in hell would I live there.

    I parked my van at the nelson marina for 6 weeks while i was away no ticket nothing Auckland sounds like nazi germany think i will stay here
