  1. Personally I really like the idea of having one in the gas Locker itself. I see threat number one as a leak up there (ours is fwd locker) and it has a vent but that could become blocked. It sounds like the detectors don't like salt water however and due to the vent it is a wet compartment on starboard tack.
  2. With the beachmaster did anyone bother with the removeable bracket? I am not sure why I might need that option considering the extra cost? Al
  3. Looks like Beachmaster it is
  4. These look good quality https://www.beachmaster.co.nz/new-zealand-store
  5. Hi, We are going to put transom wheels on the dinghy for launching. Its a 3.2 Southern Pacific inflatable. Seems to be a few varieties out there. Anyone want recommend some. Dont want anything that rusts. Need to still be able to get outboard on. Cheers, AG
  6. I checked tonight. The white wires which run all over the boat connect to all the thro hulls, like sea cocks, dynaplate etc.
  7. I am still curious about the colors of the wires. ABYC details colors for the DC system (green for DC grounding conductor). No mention I could see in the standards for any AC system. Still leaves me wondering what the difference is between the white and green circuits on the boat......be there tomorrow.....
  8. HI, We have a Southern Pacific 3.2 inflatable. Its in fair condition but doesn't fit in our dinghy rack. Looking to swap with a similar inflatable of between 2.5 to 2.9 in length. Located in AKL. Pics attached. https://photos.app.goo.gl/BXfJhvjqzC9tw1HA6
  9. Got one of those. What in particular do you suggest checking?
  10. Well in addition to the white wires there is a few green ones, but I haven't established where they terminate. More time tracing I guess.
  11. I went to find earth on my boat the other day. It looks like its on the engine in the attached picture. There is a very thick black wire which goes to the battery compartment. Also to the same mounting point on the engine is several smaller white wires which join in the photo just below the coolant hose and go to the same spot on the engine. If this is earth, shouldn't the wires be green? In the second photo, one of the same white wires seems to go to a bolt which I think connects to the prop shaft mount. What would this be fore? Cheers AG
  12. Just to close off what started this thread - had a gas man come today and replace the high pressure hose and install a new regulator. Darn if the stove doesnt go twice as well as before. Thanks to all those that suggested replacing the regulator.
  13. Not usual to actually put one in the gas locker itself then?
  14. Hi All, Another question - for those of you that have two gas detectors - where have you placed them? Cheers, Al
  15. Thanks IT. Will talk to local Marine sparky and get him to take a look. Irrespective of not doing it myself, I have nevertheless learnt a lot along the way.
  16. Hi IT, Ok - so that panel is OK if I remove the shore power connector (is that irrespective of the line to line comment on the data sheet?) Is it an option to connect this AC socket: https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjulfDgt8HgAhWaiHAKHQLsDaUQjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.commodoreaustralia.com.au%2Fproduct%2Fphoenix-12350-schuko-outlet%2F&psig=AOvVaw0wPnPJ3_NKIOnqvWH3z3JQ&ust=1550447097435850 Directly to one of the AC sockets in the boat, bypassing the CB altogether, as it looks like that inverter is
  17. CH considering I just want to get an AC outlet up and running I might bypass the AC breaker panel all together and just direct wire up one outlet for the time being. The Victron Pheonix inverter is designed to have devices directly plugged in anyway as it comes with a regular NZ style AC plug in it. When I upgrade later on, then I will get the whole setup re-done.
  18. For completeness I think that the line-to-line term refers to something to do with single phase vs split phase power. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Split-phase_electric_power I don't fully understand the what or why,but it is something to do with this. I think I will need to replace the AC panel. AG
  19. Hi All, I am converting a ex USA boat from 110v to 240v. The old inverter was wired for shore power, and a battery charger. I have replaced the inverter with a Victron Pheonix (just for running laptops etc) until I get a more substantial one. The victron pheonix doesn't have a battery charger option or shore power option. The bit thats got me, in terms of wiring, is the AC panel on this boat. It is a : https://www.newmarpower.com/wp-conte...anual-AC-I.pdf Which says its ok to do 240v line-to-line : what does line-to-line mean? https://photos.app.goo.gl/n6KHvPnACFCgtYXk8 Cheers AG
  20. So cheap on ebay $12NZD : https://www.ebay.com/itm/100pcs-1-5-2-5mm-Heat-Shrink-Butt-Wire-Connectors-Crimp-Terminals-Blue-3M/311526592273?epid=1754482199&hash=item48886e8f11:g:NiMAAOSwGotWmDbm:rk:2:pf:0 Locally you would pay that for 10pcs.
  21. If I was going to use quick connect I would use the heat shrink style ones. As pointed out when your doing work, its so convenient to be able to quickly disconnect. The heat shrink also helps ensure a good connection. You can get duraseal and 3M ones on ebay at a reasonable price if your in no hurry ex USA or UK. I stay away from the Chinese stuff.
  22. Hiya, We have a few bulkhead lights on the boat which I have been removing to do some other work. All the lights are now LED. The have been joined to the 12v wire with a terminal block with the screws, but these days would it be acceptable to use quick connect clips? I would be a heck of a lot more convenient. Thoughts? AG
  23. I recently brought a new life jacket with integrated harness. After much reading I settled on the Spinlock Deckvest Vito which is there new model released after the most recent Volvo race. A common theme in many comments I read online was that this jacket was incredibly comfortable, and important factor, since if its not comfortable your less likely to wear it. Features: Crotch strap Spray hood Automatic inflation Pylon Light Integrated harness Manual Inflation handle and mouthpiece Cons: This model uses the hammar inflation system (vs Prosensor on previous model) and the rearmi
