  1. That looks real nice. What sort of yacht is it for?
  2. With all the doom and gloom about Covid I thought it would be nice to have a thread to lighten the mood. What are peoples next boat project? We have a stackpack being built which I am super looking forward to since I am a lazy sailor and often just use the furling gib. What are mods & improvements are next on everyones list?
  3. How does a VSR work (or not) if your start and house bank are different chemistries?
  4. Has anyone got there boat name put on there stackpack and if so how/who - did it last in the NZ UV? The guy making our stack pack says his sign writer stopped doing it because the heat transfers he was using was not lasting long in NZ.
  5. At first read of this article I thought great - crayfish stocks might catch a break: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=12306199&&ref=recommended But read on - Stuart Nash has been asked to allow them to carry there entitlements forward - the cynic in me thinks there will be those who will say they returned there catch but didn't and carry over the entitlements.
  6. Thanks. I started to look into warranty - Shurflow 2 years. Jabsco 3 years. That's probably a good indicator....Buy once cry once.
  7. Hi, Our deck wash-down pump has died after only 18 months and very little use (maybe 30 times). The pressure switch is kaput - actual pump itself is fine. It is a Seaflo pump from Burnsco. I had hoped to get the switch as a part but does not look like that is going to happen. I also looked into Sureflow - and they do not seem to supply parts for there pumps either. Are pumps a throw away item these days. Parts availability aside I am disappointed with how short this pump lasted. Anyone care to recommend a new brand with better reliability, parts and support? Cheers Al
  8. Been testing out the new transducer That is the wreck of the old Taiwanese? fishing trawler off Rakino. I will probably still be a terrible fisherman even with the high tech help.
  9. We got Raymarine Axiom Pro - probably out of your budget, but the Axiom (non pro, non real vision) version might be around the 1k mark. Have been happy with it, and it has many sailing features. The support from Raymarine in Australia has been exceptional.
  10. What do the crew do if in that situation they have those Auto inflate lifejackets?
  11. Looks like that SW is going to give us a break for a few days (even if only to ease) so Barrier it is this weekend. Anyone else going?
  12. There was an international article in the Herald the other day. I googled the teaser paragraph and the exact same article came up free on another news website (might have been NY times). I was quite surprised they are just middlemen for some of there content which they clip the ticket for, but is available for free anyway.
  13. You get into another bar fight?
  14. Weather from Wednesday on wards looking quite different to what we have had so far....(PredictWind).
  15. I'm watching the weather on Predict wind - Wednesday might ease enought to go (SW) then rid out Thursday blast at Fitzroy. Weekend starting to look ok. Just praying for that NE home......
  16. Awsome answer. Thanks. Will keep watching the weather, hopefully those NE patterns start to show up more frequently before end of Jan.
  17. At least NYE and NYD was nice
  18. Similar to you but the Barrier - I have contemplated going there with a great sail out, but I might have to wait a week or more to get home or bash into it. No thanks.
  19. These blustery SW winds in Auckland seem to be stronger and more persistent than I recall for this time of year. Its like spring decided to hang around for another few months. (It hasn't been that warm either!!). Do any of the weather gurus out there know how long this weather pattern hang around? I'm guessing that this pattern has been seen before? Don't get me wrong - I hear some of you say wind is needed for sailing, but its just a bit stronger than I like when short handed with the kids and I invariably have to motor against the tide and afternoon wind as it funnels up the Tamaki

    sea fleas

    Clean the hull naked then?

    sea fleas

Has anyone else encountered the mutant Tamaki River "sea fleas" that live in the growth on the bottom of your hull? While at anchor I cleaned the area around a transducer and the little bast**ds bit me. I didn't feel it at the time but they itch like nothing else for days. Much smaller than sea lice, more like the size of a flea. Note to self to use a rash shirt or wet suit probably better.
  22. twisty, I understand Westhaven won't release the footage to anyone but Police, but while the Police are getting around to investigating the matter - can I suggest you talk to security at the marina, get them to search for the footage of the incident and then save a copy. Sometimes the footage is written over quickly, and if there is helpful evidence you don't want to loose it. With CCTV seeing footage of some unidentifiable face generally isn't much of a lead, but if you can then follow that person across multiple camera's - perhaps to a car, perhaps getting a registration - then you
