Harlech owner Carol Holland said the damaged yacht had been sold to a Sydney buyer and her insurance company had paid the difference. http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/68125143/police-build-1-million-case-against-kiwi-fugitive

must have been a nice wake + rooster's tail!
-
^ yup, in the 50's nz was 1 of the richest countries in the world per capita it started tailing off in the 60's but the shock of the uk dumping us to buy from the eec in the 70's wasn't really felt until the 80's when muldoon's attempts to keep the old system afloat were dumped, as they had to be, by a revolutionary lange labour plus people suddenly wanted more of everything as the bare minimum they would consider engines and radios used to be luxuries now luxurious is a colour plotter that costs more than a new car

22 has the multihull forum gone?

been buying a few more 'wants' from trademe 1 - an old large 10' colour GPS plotter....didn't realise how big these things were!, may just fit in the now empty stbd side cockpit bulkhead but for now have it tied up on top. came with no sounder transducer or gps ant. don't need the sounder as the old nasa target sounder is fine.....and am getting the gps position via nmea from the non-plotting garmin 128 already fitted 2 - also an old 1998? navico autopilot......apparently only ever had occasional light use to drive an aries wind vane on days when the wind was too light for the vane

:: boat coming along well, living the dream tonight's sunset at isslington bay still amazed that can web a pic while reading email at anchor (small screen phone connected to old xp notebook which will double as nav computer once connected to gps)

well done! LiveSailDie can also confirm that at least one of the fugitive’s police were seeking has been found to be onboard. this seems to suggest it was the helicopter grifter and partner http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/65986490/Couple-on-the-run-may-have-stolen-yacht http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11269769

google earth sat. pic yikes!
-
don't think our 7 orions could fly enough to provide that kind of coverage continual satellite coverage might do it but doubt they have the people, sats and funding to watch and track every yacht, everyday

years ago there was a guy stole a yacht down south sailed it out across the pacific about 100miles before he taught himself how to tack then sailed it back until it hit the beach just north of sumner

Christmas/New Year cruising - where are you off to?
erice replied to Mothership's topic in MarineTalk
just back from an overnighter to Rakino wasn't game to squeeze in at crowded Woody + West bays so joined the stragglers a bit further south at Fowlhouse bay -
the start problem was that the starter wouldn't turn over suspected earths as could hear a relay chattering cleaned; loom -ve, battery to engine -ve and battery -ve terminal + cable faces still no turn after more pondering cleaned the battery +ve post, cable ends and terminal and the engine chugged into life not a moment too soon as in 3 hours vindil had to be off the mooring and at the finger wharf for a haul-out that was booked 3 weeks ago

the last few days have been plumbing the new craftsman cm2.16, (mitsubishi 2LE) back where the vetus 2.06 (mitsubishi 2LE) used to be the vetus had the optional zf10m gearbox with 2.72:1 reduction ratio the craftsman (cheap new/old stock) came with the standard zf10m with 2:1 reduction ratio so to avoid changing the propellor the plan was always to keep the vetus box also had decided to try and use the still good, 2006, vetus; engine mounts, starter motor, control panel + looms...but the vetus loom's relay box didn't fit the holes on the slightly different craftsman bell housi

32bit serial adapter for use on a winxp netbookj showing up fine in the device manager, no driver problems etc have found details of an adapter loopback test and will try it out tomorrow on the old netbook which i left on the boat have the adapter here but can't test it on this 64bit win7 computer if i can't nut it out tomorrow i may take you up on your offer
-
thanks for this coaching misremembered the pin number pin 5 was the one i was using , (1,2,3,4,5 top of serial plug, 6,7,8,9 bottom row) the nmea output from the garmin128 i think i have correct as i have the pinout and used it to connect the nmea to the vhf i'm suspecting the new super-cheap usb converter isn't working right...will see if i can test it somehow here at home
-
yes my bad, pin 5 not 9 have a good trip;o)

engine now here and sitting in the back of the car hoping to get it onto the boat this month but the recent mission has been to set up an old windows xp netbook on the boat as better, faster plotter than the clunky, slow 20yo furuno opencpn software is on the computer and have loaded it with digital versions of all the nz charts released by linz BUT, have not been able to get NMEA data from the GPS to computer via serial to usb converter - NMEA is good as it supplies gps position to the DSC VHF - serial to usb converter driver installed, device manager shows it com6, b
