  1. For myself, the interesting thing is that North Port are only being charged about 30 times more than a casual Whangarei mooring holder ($3737 vs $117). The risk profile has to be massively higher given the number of vessel movements from outside the area. A local boat may never leave the immediate coast, but the port has potentially several of them arriving every day......
  2. Fantastic video - epic journey. Well done guys
  3. There are some very slick tenders for that boat that have been built in Auckland.
  4. Which one is that? BMW no longer part of Oracle.
  5. How many snapper do you need? Seven per person sounds like plenty to me.
  6. Stay - but it'd be good to hear from the skipper of ****** because I guess there is quite another side to the original tale. I race and I cruise, but in general I try to stay well clear from other boats. I can't afford the repairs or be bothered with the hassle.
  7. Secured by a single rope ......... unfurled headsail .......... Some people should perhaps stick to simpler pursuits

Just to be consistent, shall we start some biased ramblings against custom built aluminium yachts and their poor quality now like we did with the Beneteau?

We really need crew.orgy in this discussion to give us the real, unbiased view on how we did......
  10. Can you expand on "proven sea time"? How does one prove this?

Just pay it and get on with your life?
  12. The reports (whether true or not) have said that the missing man was washed off the bow. It sounds like one of those incidents that escalates really really quickly. Truly tragic and my heart goes out to the families of the dead and to those now on the container ship. I always wear my harness outside the cabin and clip on if leaving the cockpit when offshore - I am a bit more laisse faire coastal sailing though.
  13. Crusader a bit off the pace from where I thought she would be?
  14. Hey ScottiE - do you know what drone / camera combo was used there? It's a pretty sharp result.
  15. Ok, I must be the exception here. My philosophy is that everyone has to make a fair living. I am often happy to pay materials and labour - having received an estimate of costs up front. Someone always has to own the risk during a pricing exercise. Risk = $. If I ask the contractor to take that risk, I fully expect him to price it in. If I pay for materials plus his labour at an agreed rate, then I take that risk from him. Sometimes it works in my favour, sometimes I end up paying a bit more than the estimate. I keep in regular communication with whoever is doing the work and have
  16. The loophole with the balustrade is that because it is beyond the high water mark, the Building Act does not apply.
  17. The overhead lines are gone now - they put them underwater a couple of years back. Plenty of depth.
  18. Mooring for sale in Hobson Bay - HP003. Last serviced in August '14 by Tidal Engineering. Close in and not far from the OBC. 650kgs of railway wagon wheels gives this a rating for up to an 8m boat. For sale at $2250 or near offer or $20 per week.
  19. They should integrate with the proposed Akarana Marina Sports Trust's new building at Okahu in my opinion.
  20. Not for me - for one, I'd never get my wife on it but it also seems like one additional hassle I could do without (guess who would be emptying it!). We've gone down the electroscan way - not without its problems or cost, but overall I'm happy with it. My boat's a cruiser so I don't spend a lot of time worrying about the additional weight or even power draw. we tend to spark up the engine when the unit's running.
  21. If the $150 bill for the car repair was a bit of a set back, prepare yourself for a bit of a long haul here Ash......... Great photos, and fantastic project, I'm just glad it isn't me doing it.
