  1. There are some seriously big hitters trying to get Tiwai off the ground with green hydrogen.

Thats not to say it will happen, but some people with extremely deep pockets are def having a good gander at it.

if its possible to pull it off, Im all for it.

Remove the sludge then export 'free' power and keep all the jobs, or words to that effect.

  2. The general negativity in the media is disappointing, but not unexpected.

Covid buggered it up right royally. Agree or not, this pack of fear mongering clowns in power not letting in world media, youth competitors and super yachts really cost the city.

That been said, with no covid al of these would have happened and the numbers would tell a very different story

18 youth teams were entered for the Youth Americas cup...which would have given the squaddie a decent bucket of cash to spent elsewhere, instead YD had to suck the kumara on the 1 boat they built. Each team would have had all its support crews/families..

7 J class had confirmed, each comes with its own superyacht.... each superyacht has its own helicopter...and each helicopter has to get serviced

4 of the original 12m class were actively talking about coming...they to would had probably had a superyacht in tow

    Other superyachts....

Other yachts in general. I remember dating a crew of a 50 footer when it was last here, they sailed from San Fran to get amongst it and do charters.

The Sydney-AKL race would have happened.

All of these boats would have had large numbers of crew and guests... gst on the food bill alone would have probably paid for the event.

Loss of APEC as a sideshow....

    General overseas paying spectators.

I guess my point is, covid sucked the cash out of the event, and not even onion layers of local and national bureaucracy would have stopped the money splashing around, no matter how hard they tried.

  3. I have seen extended footage of this and from multiple angles and the protesters attacked the guard's with extreme force before that. It was clear they weren't prepared to be attacked in the way they were.

At first the guards are talking to them, then they push a couple back as they try and get up, only for to be blindsided by another bunch who really got stuck in to them, one of them is the one who got kicked in the face.

One of the guards is repeatedly kicked in the head and face whilst on the ground before being kicked into the water visibly dazed. It appalling viewing. He is literally getting kicked unconscious and then kicked head first into the water.

Id argue from what I see that the kick, whilst appearing to be brutal and off the cuff, was self defense from the guard who had just been attacked. One of the guards is king hit from behind. The protester is trying to get back up onto the pontoon to continue the attack.

The violence from the protesters was extreme, it is clear that the guards were doing whatever they could to defend themselves, it went from keeping the protestors off the pontoon, to survival very very quickly.

But of course you wont see that in the protestors edited video.

    Good info thanks Jon

Yes I can see water capacity being the next hurdle! One reason I don't want an instant water heater. At least with a cylinder it kind of 'Polices' shower durations. Have a 12 yo boy who finds comfort in Long meditation sessions in the shower at home, we are on tank water so wears a bit thin!

We survived 5 xmas cruises with no pressure water and a 20L water tank, splashed out and put 100L bladder in the 930 last year and I swear it lasted about the same time. The new boat appears to have about 270L and I wager once the tribe get used to pressure water and hot showers it'll probably need refilling after 4 days 😅

You are on the money there... the more you give, the more is taken

Is that the downside of not having a boat that performs upwind Veladare?  (you have a cat yeah?)

Yep that is def part of it, but Ive also noticed a change in wind patterns.

Between roughly 2005-20012 Id take Pork Chop up to Kawau every single weekend with a 15 knot south wester at 1700 on a Friday and 10 knots close hauled on way home at midday... now I notice its 5-7 knots and from the east.

I now go to Kawau once a year

Yep my boat is a heavy slow tub, but I dont even look at it if its not 10-15 now from any direction... but I find I simply dont find those winds anymore. I have a young family, and getting there so they can swim is important, or they start getting turned off and bored...and beg for the ipad...or start ripping my boat to pieces.....

I feel the winds have changed and with mu current boat, I dont have the time to bob along.

This summer was the worst... simply no wind capable of getting me sailing. Ive got a genny all ready to go... havent put it up once in 3 years...

Closed for submissions now unfortunately sorry. Not Woody this time.

They want to drop a few more in the SW corner under that da-de-da-da place on point above. The gist is they are subdividing that land and some of the new sections need a mooring for access.

The mooring in Woody Bay is available for use by the general public. That is a condition of it being allowed and it has ALWAYS been the case, not that some and the media wanted you to know that as it fucked with their narrative. The owner has zero problem with it being used, at the boaters own risk, and all he wants is to be able to use it when he's there, he has a house there (the one his son burnt down a year or 3 back). But he uses it rarely so the mooring is mostly empty.

A condition of these proposed moorings is they are also open for public use when the holders aren't using them. But having experienced the utter wankery and dangerous wankery of the holder when he came in in his bland boring over price POS tupperware and went 'off' big time at a boat on the mooring with threats and a pretend (or had a change of mind at the last second) ramming, I'd expect any public using it may cop some abuse at times. Only an assumption there but it is based on previous history.

    OK thanks for that.

That one in Woody is a complete ball ache.

Ive seen people tie to it claiming to be the owner, on 2 very different boats, and Ive seen words exchanged between boats in regards to it.... how are supposed to know who owns it...?

I think they should remove it, it chews up a large amount of space in a very small bay which is popular in ever increasing wind condition

  7. They all arrived in Vivian Bay, had a beer then shot off. Dean beat Moose and Brad Marsh to the beach

With 2 of the 3 people I saw racing in to the bay, an arms races is inevitable, they just cant help themselves those boys
