Something big that require revs / centrifugal force is the prop, and one blade sticking will obviously cause balance issues. I actually wondered if you had a bucket wrapped on the prop. If it was a shaft, something caught on it. But you're saildrive. I know you're in selected neutral but I wonder if your Morse control or cables needs adjustment and the gearbox is actually engaged or part anyway. So I would start at looking at the prop when it's doing it, disconnect the cables and check the gear select position and after that if that says nothing, start thinking about gearbox to damper pl

We always stop at the Cavalli islands, several anchorage spots depending on wind direction, you can always hop into mahinepua if it's too west or windy. Flax seeds marking our usual spots. The Eastern side is nice if there's been a SW for a few days and the swell is down. Whangaroa harbour is a jewel and a destination suitable for all weather, you just anchor where it's pretty in one of four arms. The must not miss is the walk from Lane cove up to the dukes nose. I had a fergy in Opito bay for 6 months, the hitting of topsides might have become an issue on tide change etc but I still think I would go for it again and trouble shoot it if there was a problem, give it a lifejacket/buffer if required. Fridge tech kit retrofitted to the original freezer compartment in 2015 plus a couple of solar panels, I left it on until 2018 when I turned it off for a few months. Can't comment on what people have done but here's a little historical titbit. I spoke to Dave Blundell once and he told me the design brief to LD was for a wholesome gulf cruiser designed without regard to rule, and to look like a small Riada. I've seen that in print somewhere too.

The Clark 42s are magnificent sea boats and were high standard builds. You load them up with your 6 months of cruising stores and they don't go slower. Lazy 150 through 180 mile days. The last time I saw Quintessence she'd had a whole lot spent on paint and was in spectacular condition. See, if you want to go cruising, and you'd like to do that safely and make prompt passages in a boat you can trust to stay together when it hits the fan, that's the boat to be in.

Ours will be 45 next year. Smashed our way out of Fiji a month ago, doesn't creak or groan, all the cupboard doors open, scantlings that make some of the modern brands look like ice cream containers. A fast cruiser in 1975 and still quick enough . 6.5 days navula pass to the ninepin. These old boats are built to another level and by world class boat builders, they're worth the effort.
