  1. Thanks Khayyam i'll look into that. Thanks again Zozza. Have talked with Luke about the haulage and agree that he's a top block and it's a great company. I may well end up renting one from him if i get no joy buying an unused one or finding someone that isn't using theirs and happy to lend it out long term. It's going to probably be for a couple of years. As will only be able to work on it in spare time or which I have very little. I saw an old rusty pile of steel that was called a cradle on Trade Me a while back and thought there may be others out there not being used.
  2. Thanks Zozza, for information, have chatted with them about it and this image is from their page. It will be for a long period so looking at options about buying/borrowing an unused one.
  3. Hi, I'm trying to hunt down a good steel cradle for a long term project on a Ross 930. Thinking along the lines of this one but open to suggestions. It needs to be able to support boat turning transit to site. thanks for any help you can give.
  4. Thanks Island Time for this. Sailor of B thought it was straight forward and Sailor of A thought it was not that simple. I think A feels B should have turned up and gone behind him, but B was fixed on passing below A and it just got worse until they hit. Clearly better communication by both boats would have helped here.
  5. I’ve thought a bit more about this over the week and what if Boat A feels they were on the Broad Reach side of Beam Reach. Does this change things? i.e. should Boat B be lifting and passing behind Boat A? Also when is Boat A required to be the Stand On boat? Is this from a set distance, the tack or some other point?
  6. Thank you for this info. Just to check i'm reading this right. Before the P flag goes up for their start they are under Colregs? i.e. it doesn't matter that other boats are in starting sequence.
  7. Yes it was before their fleets start sequence (only by about 1-2 minutes) other fleets were in start sequence. They were in the third start of the days first race. I was also wondering if race rules even applied at that stage.
  8. Thank you Fish. This is inline with my thinking. Hard to get peoples honest view in club as they don't want to upset either sailor.
  9. Morning people on forum I’m after some unbiased advice on a sailing incident from the weekend. no one was hurt but a boat has a hole and needs repair. This was in dinghy’s and was before the prestart sequence had started for this fleet. Both boats started on starboard and where Close Reach to Beam Reach. There was about 8-10 boat lengths separation and the wind was about 5-8knots. Boat A was a little higher than boat B. Boat B tacked and once completed was pointing just below Boat A, but now on port. Boat A started moving to a Broad Reach and Boat B also moved to a Broad Reach.
  10. Thank you for advise. This is similar to what I've been thinking just unsure if kite halyards should be central as before or if they'd be better on sides with other halyards. Upside of side is better alignment with a winch but central they could reach each winch which may be better as i only run two winches at the moment. Just took off self tacker so unsure how it will all work in practice. Will your boat be living at Westhaven?
  11. Ropeye's look great not sure where I would use them. More trying to work out a nice neat keyboard layout. Had a look at a few of the other Ross 930's and there seems little consensus. what's your view on Constrictor Rope Clutch's? Interesting idea but look messy to me.
  12. photos or it never happened. also need a few tips on how to put my deck gear back on.
  13. I know what’s all that about. I’m guessing one of the ones with a fractional kite will have no issues with the handicapping as they won almost every race on handicap. I can only assume that the one Ross, that was handicapped lower than the two with fractional kites has spent years manipulating his handicap for this one event. Performance based handicaps make ZERO difference what size sails you have. Its performance based not measurement based. In other words a handicap not a rating. So that Ross just really sucks.
