I distinctly remember seeing some photos of the “sea trial” which was a cruising holiday . My school mate took some photos of Bruce on the helm coming back from BOI , big grin on his face with the Dinghy out the back just about airborne going down the face of a bloody decent swell . They had a good north east breeze and hooned down the coast back to Auckland

Bruce Hopwood built uptown girl which I think was the first one , I checked it out in the shed just before launching when I was all of 12 years old 😳 . I think he’s still in Auckland somewhere tinkering with marine stuff . He built most models of Ross boats and may know how to get hold of drawings

We have a Samoan variety but it’s yet to fruit , think it’s called Hanamoa . Yeah very versatile for cooking can be sweet or savoury

Misi Luki from Samoa is currently one of the better varieties to grow , less starch and great flavour compared to cavendish . There were some very promising commercial hybrid Varieties coming out of gisborne but I doubt you will see the plants for sale anytime soon .

Anyone else still waiting for flares ? We Got cat3 even though I couldn’t get hold of handheld smokes . Apparently it’s really getting out of hand , especially for the commercial folk who are needing to update their flares . Fingers crossed the shipment arrives before raceday . It would suck to get penalised for not having smokes on board .

Yeah the bay in front of our yacht club is well infested with it (Parua bay) . Our race marks need regular cleaning to keep them floating
