That's at the harbour entrance, pays to try plan that a bit. Bream head not really an issue, does pay to stay out of the stream if its against you once you get around Bream head though. Cape Brett coming out I all ways go through the gap, unless its a perfect day and I just want to keep sailing off into the distance for a bit.. Going in depends a bit on weather, its usually pretty rolly, the wind goes all round the clock stops and starts.... I usually plan to go wide but often change my mind as I get closer, usually wish I didn't by the time I'm there. Also much nicer with the tide going

Was set on a Manson Supreme until i discovered the Sarca Excell. Digs in as soon as you back down. I bought another one when I changed boats. Same size as Bealle got a No.3. Been through 2 gales already without moving, including swing around the clock. Had a few nasty episodes with the last one too and it never let me down. Including a 180 wind shift rising to 25 knots onshore. GPS said it must have broken out and grabbed again within 5m, I wasn't onboard. Doesn't need a massive scope, using 15m chain then rope.

Tablets for navigation vs fixed chart plotters laptops
Cantab replied to Spirit of Wray's topic in MarineTalk
Is there a way to get a gpx file, or any other file, onto the mfd without removing the sd card? Ive got a tablet linked to the mfd, wireless but cant find a way to transfer files. -
Tablets for navigation vs fixed chart plotters laptops
Cantab replied to Spirit of Wray's topic in MarineTalk
I bought a cheap tablet as a backup, put it in a rugged case, used it happily several times. Get one with plenty of memory, most apps won't go on a card these days. Not waterproof but you can put it in a plastic bag if you really need to. Open CPN is pretty good but might be a bit more than you need, it depends and can be a bit quirky to learn. I think its better on a laptop, I use it at home for planning. Navionics is good, and cheap, on a tablet or phone. -
Quite a few idiots make regulations too

Apparently I can still row a dinghy, left the oars on the yacht though. I can swim to the yacht to get the oars and bring them back, that would be much safer than just using the outboard wouldn't it? If I had a kayak I could fish from it, but I don't have a kayak. If I finally get to the yacht in the dinghy can I stand on it at the mooring and fish? Its less than 200m from shore. Why is everything so confusing now?

last surveyor I was involved with use a nylon head hammer, was inspired to buy one myself before checking next yacht. If you didn't authorize destructive testing for the survey I would be looking for some repair money, its not necessary to use a steel hammer, nor hit the hull that hard. The Surveyor is incompetent. https://nzsafetyblackwoods.co.nz/en/thor-nylon-hammer-th708-25-25mm-each--00017476

So how do overnight stays on a boat increase the risk of spreading covid?

New Hull cleaning regs for Auckland - more costs....
Cantab replied to Island Time's topic in MarineTalk
Hope you all got your council approved cleaning plan in place to get that pesky worm off your boat before you go out on Wednesday. -
Sailed out to the chicks, GB looked pretty tempting, perfect day for it. Anchored up working out what to do with this

This is what I was looking at, seemed pretty clear to me. https://www.customs.govt.nz/covid-19/maritime-border/private-yachts-and-small-craft/ "Permissions Foreign registered vessels must have first received an exemption from the Ministry of Health... It is an offence for a foreign vessel to arrive in New Zealand waters without permission"

This one fits mine. https://www.marine-deals.co.nz/johnson-09-810b-1-mc97-f4-pump-impeller-kit BUT there are two pump sizes listed in the parts manual, its a bit confusing. Check here then google the part number https://dieselpartseurope.com/media/onderdelen_catalogus/0CR10-M56001_en.pdf They are usually on the shelf at Burnsco or most marine stores so you should be able to check your old one there if there is any doubt.

Pretty sure you need to change to NZ registration to get permission to enter, border is closed to foreign registered boats, unless they promise to spend lots of money. doesn't matter if the crew is all kiwi. Easy to change to NZ reg. and come in with all Kiwi crew. Cat 1 doesn't apply to boats coming in. Windows are only dangerous once they get here.

9am start 1159 finish, 3 hrs to do 20 - 40 or 34-58 miles? Doable but pretty tight. Sort of hoped you meant 2359hrs Sat.?

Good luck, fingers crossed. Can you have a look at the time limit.

And then what?

I don't believe that at all, and am sorry if I gave you that impression. I believe catching it is a very good way of boosting your immune system to reduce the impact of further infections. There is ample evidence to support this perspective and that it would be more effective than more jabs. Liken it to the recent RSV out break, much worse than usual reaction due to lower cases the year before. Let the bug become endemic and let nature deal with it, with a little help from science. The main point I would make is that you should not necessarily fear unvaccinated people due to Covid, y

I would prefer my company to be vaxxed, however probably not for the reasons most people think. I had my jabs, 12weeks apart, finished 2 weeks ago. Apparently that makes me good to go, I want to catch the bug sooner rather than later, the older I get the worse it looks for me. I don't mind a little mitigation strategy, masks and gathering sizes, but I want us all to be out and about and I think a billion a week of life support could be better used elsewhere. The problem I have with the non-vaxxed is that they will clog up the health system. People who need other treatments are going

Used a front load washing machine, after carefully cleaning out soap tray etc. Don't wash with laundry powder! Drip dry after.
-
https://www.nikwax.com/en-gb/products/twin-tech-wash-tx-direct/ I have had very good results from using this stuff on breathable gear. Be very meticulous with the cleaning directions, getting rid of all soap residue in washing machine is critical. Pants and jackets worked good as new if not better in one case, didn't last as long as new but definitely worth it. Get about 3 treatments from the kit.

What's this? Another missed target with another metric going the wrong way?

I suspect if this was fixed the vast majority of issues with modern boat designs would go away. It's what you get when you let the designers and builders make their own rules to comply with, or at least have too much ability to lobby for their own benefit. The keel punching out the bottom of the J boat in the fastnet says it all.

Pretty sure an amendment to the Sailing Instructions isn't the place to be making a change to the eligibility requirements of the Notice of Race. Hope your getting some enjoyment from annoying the hell out of them, about all your going to get by the looks of things. Whangarei definitely got some good things going on, dinghy's and trailer yachts all growing fleets, still reasonable keel boat turn out at times too.

Prop just arrived, not bad for a level 3/4 lockdown Sunday. Under 12 days from Denmark, like to see a local supplier beat that. Wasn't going to do it this year but lockdown lets me spend far too much time shopping online.

I asked the designer of mine about stability information "we didn't do that sort of thing back then"
