I think its the history of Westhaven that comes into play. It was never meant to be this huge money making goliath "like every other Marina". People who know the history better than me can give the rundown on the average joes that got together decades ago and got this marina up and running. As far as "moaning" about Westhaven (Panuku), it's a free world and I take great delight at poking the Borax at them whenever I can as I think Panuku and all those involved in that slimy outfit deserve to be sent on the next cargo ship to SIberia, and be left there. But hey, that's just me. I discu

Its being brought in so marina renters don't park and walk to work. "Please only park within Westhaven Marina when on site for a marina related purpose." Big Brother watching you. You can see it now, email or letter sent to you: "Sir, we noticed via our plate recognition initiative, that you parked at Westhaven Monday to Friday last week. You must be on a marina related purpose only when parked at the marina. Despite the fact we charge ridiculously overpriced monthly fees for our shitty marina, we can't have you trying to save a few $bucks each week by parking at our ma

Panuku installing CCTV capable of close up face recognition of sailors, together with new covid 19 laws to be able to track all your movements , to then be able to issue a "toll charge" each time you sail past Bean Rock, much like when you drive north of Auckland through the tunnel.

Isail GPS for IOS. $4.99 to download all linz charts plus a lot of the South Pacific. Neat little Nav App too . http://isailgps.com/nz/

There was an inflatable discourtlesly dumped on my marina berth finger at Westhaven last weekend, when I popped down to check on the boat. One could assume, tentatively, it belonged to my new neighbour. I hope Owha eats it, teaches the cheeky pr*ck a lesson.

I'm planning on Barrier next summer. Lets see if our paths cross Sabre. Would like to see that Windpilot in action. Regret selling that to you now LOL!. I am going to order another one. The Windpilot guy has offered me a good price on a new one. I am sure you can give me a few tips on how it all works if our bows do cross.

So can I visit my boat at marina under Code 3? It appears not....
Zozza posted a topic in MarineTalk
No boating allowed, but why mention parking permits will be enforced if they aren't letting anyone down to the marina? But - earlier it says let one of them know if you want them to check on your boat. Why can't I? Or can I? -
I purchased very expensive 6-12 clutches which are now useless as my 10mm line has swelled a bit with salt water exposure, and no won't fit through the 6-12 clutch, so I am having to replace them with 8-14 clutches. Ridiculous - lucky I am doing a straight swap with a sailing mate, but still annoys me - yet another post lockdown job to remove and replace something on my boat when I just want to go sailing.

Post covid I will be definitely moseying into your shop KM, with a couple cold ones and also that spare spade anchor you lent me over Xmas....so will check out the foam stuff with you then. I'm sure you will also have a few lockdown lowdown stories to tell!
-
You make some deally good points , and have given me pause.

Thanks KM. Ive also looked up the expanding foam idea -- which at first I thought BP was just taking the piss, but is in fact recommend by more than a few world cruisers! The things you learn on this forum aye.

Hey that might work until I get the box thing done that Terry recommends. Actual kids plasticine, or proper modelling clay....?

I glassed in my cockpit lockers during my rebuild. Whole I idea was to make the boat as water-tight as possible. So - oh the irony when my boat got wet as a shag on way up to Northland this summer due to the aforementioned anchor winch leak issue, and hull / deck joint issue. I had a chuckle about it later, but at the time when bashing my way north, I was a little peeved! Heh heh. cheers!
-
By the way -- I've got hull / deck joint leaks too.....I spent three days drying out when I arrived in Opua over Xmas break. And yes - the hull / deck joint "fix" is on the list for later this year, post lockdown.

Terry mate, excellent -- this is what I had in back of my mind - some sort of box cover thingamajiiggy that covers and it reasonably waterproof (yes keep the majority out, not every last drop), but also quick release for when I anchor. Make one first as a temp thing to see how it works, and then maybe make it a permanent thing out of f/glass - but was hesitant to put it forward as idea haven't seen it before on small yachts so was thinking it might be not the "done thing" for whatever reason -- so thank you very much as I think it may be the way to go, as yes, I do want to keep this ground

Yeah it is. I moved the chain locker aft to just forward of the coach roof, whereas most people have it further forward. And there is no locker on deck as it were. The chain just drops below. I wanted the weight of the ground tackle to be as "low" as possible in the boat, hence where I put the locker where I did. Here are some pics of my set up. My chain falls down into a locker that sits on top of the forward part of the long keel so not sure how I can set up to drain as the locker is below waterline. Methinks I didn't think hard enough about my installation and what I wo

And yes I have a tippy boat, which gets rail well under when punching to windward in any sort of stiff breeze or more. Like in this video:

What sort of contraption am I going to need to be able to stop my electric anchor winch from letting in a load of seawater? See pic attached. I have a canvas cover specially made, which is fine for keeping out rain from getting in that slot when berther in the marina or at anchor, but just blows off when sailing to windward in anything above 15 knots, and quite a fair dunk of seawater (litres not dribbles) finds it way in down below and its getting in through that slot when I am sailing to windward for long enough and in wind strong enough to put the boat rail under.

Hey Waikiore, sorry to butt in, but I PM'ed you the other day, so you probably haven't seen the red marker at top right of your screen on the front page of the forums. Its just a query I had about a Contessa you auctioned off many years ago....wondering if it's my one! I go into more detail in the PM. Cheers mate Zozza

I agree Aleana, your dodgy dunny use is a ridiculous reason for GH not to allow liveabaords. There has to be more to it than that up there......IT?
-
I know we love to hate Panuku and Westhaven Management, but I think the proposal to start allowing liveaboards again is a positive one. Theyd be useful right now in keeping an eye on boats during the lockdown, and did prove to be useful when that Tornado thingy ripped through mid year (last year), as they rushed to help marina management. ANd they are generally useful to keep a general eye out for dodgy characters overall -- something that has proven to be a successfully deterrent to said dodgy dudes roaming other marinas that have a liveaboard community. All that is needed is a "ri

LOL that's something I'd expect Austin Powers to have as a ride

If you don't mind a little bit bigger , faster, and just a wee bit more expensive, then how about this? It has your headroom and will certainly go to windward faster than a slow...or fast...cruiser. Actually they're probably going cheap at the moment.....

Gulf Harbour seems to be a bit cheaper with $500 pm for a 12 meter berth becoming increasingly normal.
