We used to be down River from the Club. The second or third to last mooring on the Te Atatu side of the River. Very strong Wind against tide can produce a short sharp chop up to a metre that far down River. But it is only in that particular area. Come back up toward the Clubhouse and it flattens out pretty quick. All in all, it is fantastic shelter from big blows. We used to put the dink in at the ramp. But toward the latter days of us being there, the crowds on a Saturday Morning at the Hobbsonville landing was huge.
The water flow can be very fast. Too fast to row against. So you need a motor on the inflatable.
We never had any trouble. Further up at Herald Island was an issue for theft, but down where we were was too far from most.
As long as you stick mid channel at low tide, there is plenty of water depth. But there are vast mud flats each side and even at high tide, you need to keep within the channel.
The ferry was well behaved. We used to tie up to the Beachhaven terminal to fill up with water when the ferry was not running or inbetween it's trips.

The mooring area I am looking at is more or less parallel between Beach Haven Wharf and the Yacht Club either side, i.e about 250M row from either side's wharf / landing area....though you seem to be saying a dink with outboard a better bet due to the water flow in this area.

Anyone moor their boat in Hobsonville , specifically in the area near Hobsonville Yacht Club?
If so, any issues in a big blow?

This has come up before. How one guy is allowed to own three marina in the Auckland area is beyond belief. Anticompetitive with a capital A.
Murdoch has a harder time trying to buy all the SKY UK media rights.

I pay $2500 odd per year for a 15m berth. But you have to buy an apartment to get that!

Hold on/ No way you are paying that to rent. You must own the berth , which for a 15m berth would have been a massive outlay, and your yearly rate is opex. Surely...

I commented about these sometime back. Can't remember when exactly. Maybe when KM was first looking at Batteries. Specifially the Firefly Oasis battery. Unfortunately, Firefly went belly up. I don't know why. But a new owner has started manufacturing them again in a limited amount. TasPac was the original importer into NZ.
The Lead/Carbon tech has some great advantages over standard Lead. Yes they are heavier and you can discharge far further than standard lead. I am shocked at the price though. Ouch! I guess they can't be a cheap item to freight into the Country.

Also try a google on the batteries and see who else sells this technology in NZ there are quite a few now and maybe the prices are becoming more competitive.
I spent quite a bit of time trying to find Firefly in NZ. So, you've explained now why I couldn't. Pity, because I only read almost universal good press about their batteries online in many forums when I was doing research.
I also considered Hitek, who sell on Trademe - but too much of an unknown brand, so I went with standard AGM.

Zozza, what are the details of your boat and what aspects of the copper coat's performance did you not like? i.e. where did you keep the boat, was it used for cruising, racing, how old was the CC? (did you put it on yourself or buy the boat with it?)
I bought the boat then pulled it immediately out of water for a refit / refurbishment.
So I got no idea how good it worked or not. My reason for changing is a both aesthetics and practical. Aesthetics in that due to me removing all thru hulls and glassing over the holes, the thought of launching with a patchwork quilt bottom leaves me averse - copper coat is reedy brown when new, and sea green after being in seawater awhile.
And practical in that as my copper coat bottom was applied almost ten years ago by the previous owner, it will be due for recoating soon, and I just can't be arsed getting into the technical palava ( and cost) with a Croat in the copper coat.
But coventional anti fouling I understand, and can't make too many cock ups. Just haul and slap it on. With copper coat you gotta haul and scrub every year anyway. And when you recoating you gotta do all this fancy sh*t or it doesn't turn out well.

If you gave it a minimum or 2 coats and preferably 3, then you should get 5 yrs. 7 if you are lucky and allow it to look a little shabby. Will wear fast in high wear areas and will not stand dings and scrapes.
2 pots will get you 15 to 20yrs. Once again, if it has had all the required coats. It also stands up to wear much better in high wear areas and can withstand minor dings and scrapes.
One advantage is that if you have applied several coats, you have a good film thickness that allows a cut and polish at 15yrs and it can look like new and last just as long again. The need to repaint is only if it has worn or been damaged.
Normally the Carvel hulls are painted in singles because the singles will move with the timber. The two pots won't and will just crack at the seems
That's good Wheels - I can handle 5 years. I guess, time will tell, and the bloke painting on the coats is definitely good at what he does.

Will be following this thread with interest as getting rid of my old coppercoat bottom before I launch, and have no idea which antifoul I should be recoating it with.
Btw , I have an unused litre of coppercoat hardener and powder - completely unopened. Cost me $200 , but am open to offers above $100 bucks if anyone wants it now that I decided to go for conventional antifoul.

I have a GRP boat and had the opportunity to use two pot for hull and decks, but for some reason chose not to - I suppose through sheer ignorance.
Too late now - im not gonna sand off all my one pot topcoats and undercoats and start again
He reckons I should have used two pot paint, as the maintenance is so much less.
Apparently I am now in for a sand and recoat every couple years which sounds like a bit of a pain in the backside if true.
Still, this is what the Pardeys and Hiscocks and countless others had to do / still do, with their carvel planked boats.
Are one pot marine enamel paints as bad as my superyacht painter makes out?
I used the Altex brand of one pot paint.

I have no idea what kind of drone it is - the pics were emailed to me from the guy in the little orange TS that was anchored inside us. Son #1 has just bought one the same and its being collected in next day or so , I'll let you know when it arrives.

How about you stop putting nasty letters on berth renters windows, accusing them of parrking then walking to work, when you have absolutely zero evidence.
Your harassment of berth renters with the required permit displayed on their window, leaves a lot to be desired.

It was easterly. Or Slightly S of East. You can't run off a lee shore. Passage to Great Barrier was directly to windward, they could not even make it to the poor knights. I'd have to say that most local yachts would have difficulty making any distance at all to weather in those conditions.
