  1. http://goflexsolar.co.nz/ I have two of their long skinny GFS 50's which I am intending to mount on the foredeck. They coated the back of mine with VHB, so I just have to peel off the film and stick 'em down when I am ready to install. They have a tread like surface and you are supposed to be able to walk on them. Not cheap. We will see how they go after I have installed and wired them up. I've got a genasun controller for each. My only worry is that because they will be bonded to the deck with VHB, they could well be a pain in the jacksie to take off and replace if they do crap out.
  2. So, I'm going to have a 43kg outboard motor hanging off my stern, bracket at about 5kg, self steering gear at 13kg, Plus I'm about 100kg. I am yet to install anchor winch, chain pipe or chain locker . Ordinarily I would not want all that weight up too far forward, and would try install all back a few feet, however, considering the weight I am going to have off the stern, am I on the right track that putting the ground tackle and all that up forward might be ok and help out with fore and aft balance to prevent too much pitching? Boat is a GRP 26 footer with long keel, medium-heavy displaceme

  4. "Could you please explain why the registration fee has increased 230% in 5 years?" There should be a public lynching for the people responsible for this. I am currently attempting to have my boat registered under the Jersey flag. Hit a few snags, but working my way through them. Will let you know how I get on. Up front costs will work out around same - but only due to the need for a Tonnage survey for Jersey. Renewals currently cost something in the vicinity of £50 after 10 years. Compare that to what NZ charge after only 5 years - no contest. If I fail to qualify for the Jersey
  5. I can report the combo of the degreaser Wheels recommended, plus wet 'n dry vacuum did the trick. I now have a nice clean bilge, and diesel smell gone.
  6. Ditto, and they won't ignore it.
  7. Until you pay the outstanding debt, it will.
  8. I'm with Povnation.. It 'aint worth the stress mate for $65. Here's what they'll do, they will stick you on one of those Debt recovery lists, like Baycorp, and then you're stuffed if you ever want to borrow money again from any financial institution until you pay up. And not wanting to get into an internet argument either, you were parked somewhere where you should not have parked. Why did you not go to the marina office and get a permit so you could park in one of their spaces while you did the work for them? I am not saying you should not confront the parking outfit in some manner (keep
  9. My electric bilge pump down there is still working as my battery still has some juice left in it - its just the crap right at the bottom below the level of the bilge pump that I want to get out first, then once I have the worst of the muck out I will then use a degrease and hose and wash it out in full.
  10. That wet and dry stainless one is cheaper too than the oil extractor. However, how "safe" are these wet 'n drys? Can handle that dirty, oily bilge water ok?
  11. Kenco, no 'l'...this stuff Wheels? http://www.supercheapauto.co.nz/Product/Kenco-Heavy-Duty-Degreaser-6-Litre/343954
  12. Seems like it is a contest between this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/home-living/cleaning-bins/vacuum-cleaners/commercial-vacuums/auction-1199285453.htm And this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/parts-accessories/engine-parts/auction-1200297974.htm
  13. Definitely out of water. On cradle, in my driveway.
  14. Just went and took pics of bilge...it's a deep dark place down there.....
  15. Already tried both the pads and the sausage like things. Both hardly made a dent, plus squeezing them was messy as sh#t. I am looking for a more, well, "powerful and quick" option to get rid of it all - there is a lot.
  16. Hey Eric, just duct taped of the shaft hole for the moment. Cup into bucket? I do not have 4 foot long arms, and even if I did, that would take an age,
  17. Hey guys, how do I firstly get the sludgy stinky diesel and water out of my bilge that has accumulated? It is below the level of the bilge pump down there (it's a full keel deep bilge - must be a good three to four feet deep or more there under the cockpit where it has accumulated). I was thinking drill pump? Any better ideas than that? And, once I pump it out, what should I clean it with? Just a general detergent? Cheers for any thoughts on this.

    Nova 28

Hi mate, yeah she is a C26. Not a complete refit, but some changes yes. I probably purchased the one you were going to see - got it from GBI
  20. By the way, what happened to your Contessa 26 back here? She still in NZ? Mine is a Canadian version too, bought by a Kiwi doctor working in Canada in the early 70's. I think he shipped it back here rather than sailed it, when he moved back with his family. He may have sailed it, but not really a boat to fit a family in.
  21. I am hoping the ultra long 25" shaft will do the trick - I am sure it will pop out now and then still. A sistership, BIKA (see pic) sailed from Norway to Tonga with a ratty old 4hp. So, it can be done. I will have a much better bracket and much better outboard motor than them. Sounds like you had a great adventure. Did you find the cockpit drains an issue, i.e water coming back up?

Get rid of your old inboard, and repower with my, year 2010 , twin cylinder 14hp Beta Diesel Engine that I am selling. Way smaller footprint engine than what you currently have I'd say, and a twin 14hp Diesel only 6 years old will have more than enough oomph for a Nova 28. Just a thought.
  23. At the risk of this becoming an Inboard Diesel v Outboard on small yachts thread, I will list off a few reasons off the top of my head in no particular order: 1) My ultimate aim with this boat is to have no holes below the waterline - obviously that can't be achieved with a raw water cooled inboard. 2) By having no thru-hulls the maintenance of said thru-hulls (which catastrophic failure can lead to disaster) becomes a non-issue - because I won't have any to maintain. 2) The diesel smell - I really don't like it. 3) My boat is a long keeler. A decent tiller controlled outboard will give m
