Not a lot to say - Raspberry Pi 4B with a powered USB hub and a couple of USB buck converters to power it all sitting in a $5 Systeema plastic box. There is a little vertical recess in front of the chart table where it will sit. Keyboard and mouse driven. The screen is a 24-inch 12v unit mounted on a gas arm so it can reach the companionway. Screen is already on the yacht. I may add a small (5 - 7 inch) screen to the Pi itself as a secondary/backup OpenCPN loaded and ready to run. I have an old bluetooth GPS receiver I'll try on it, if not it will get a cheapo ali-depressed usb

Thanks for the comment Grant. Overthinking is good. Its easier to back away from overthinking than to fix underthinking. I'm working on the theory that most of the time you are anchored and pointing into the wind. Ergo, the rear of the cabin is at the lower pressure end of the boat and so air will naturally circulate coming in the dorade boxes, through the cabin, and exiting out the ventilated washboard. Under way things are obviously different, but so unpredictable its not worth designing for except to keep water out. Looks like I'm going with Lateral's offer, so the design chan -

Redesign. Single sheet, angled smaller drillings like described and shown above, rebate half depth of the washboard, window sheet on the outside, chamfer the edge so its flush at the junction between ply and acrylic. Still fix it using MS35. Meesaged you. Cheers -

Yeah, sorry, forgot to add the budget constraint... My budget for acrylic on this is about $50. The rest all happens in my workshop. -

Yeah, I kinda want a window as well. Its quite dark inside with the washboards in place. -
I build valve amps. Upward of 400VDC, anywhere up to 1200VAC. I'm not registered or otherwise formally qualified. As long as I am not doing it commercially, I'm fine. I can resell items I've built as long as its not "commercial". Still scares the crap outa me. I overbuild like a madman.

Both I think so. I may put a couple of 6mm drain holes in each bottom corner of the outer sheet if it looks to be a problem. There are two dorade boxes at the front of the cabin and a third in the head, as well as a hatch at the front with a ventilation latch that just cracks it open, but there's nothing at the back , so no real air flow. This design gives a vented area of about 30cm2 in the washboard, so I'm hoping enough for some air movement when the yacht is head to wind, not necessarily an obvious breeze. -

dunno and fair point. Blanket rules are how it works unfortch. 100kph speed limits. Rules on the conditions of rental properties. Warrants of Fitness. All aimed at ensuring we are protected from the 5%. Again, I agree. I'm not sure what legislation and regulation (if any) governs that. Whatever it is, it should be complementary to the recreational rules, not a replacement. You can bet it would (and has) increase freight costs, the cost of ferry transportation, etc. I'm assuming other jurisdictions have similar problems and have developed solutions. -

I didn't say they are THE culprits. But you'd have to be a mental midget to think that the huge fleet of moored recreational boats in Auckland hasn't in some way contributed to the spread of invasive species. A quick look up the Tamaki (hell, go past any 20 boats moored in the Wairoa at Clevedon...) will show you the level of contamination some get to. I watched one nearly sink in the Tamaki, and when it was hauled there was more fanworm than hull. -

Purile. Yesrecreational boat owners are relatively well off. Its a totally discretionary activity. If you cannot afford it, don't do it. Forget about the big ships and others. Our boats create a problem - pointing at something else and whining "not fair!" is childish and doesn't resolve the problem we create. Yes, some anti-fouling that was effective is no longer available - because it was killing lifeforms we want as well as those we don't. Its inconvenient, but if your chemistry is impacting fish, shellfish and sea flora that is supporting our recreational fishing (among -

nope. A partnership, incorperated society, and a lot of other legal entities are corporations, but not necessarily commercial. The Daldy Trust is an example in our sphere, as might be Spirit of Adventure Trust. A craft held in a partnership may be "owned" legally by a limited liablity company. Same thing. -
As long as you didn't set a booby trap and the boat is yours for private use (like your car is for instance) no since you are not a PCBU . The H&S risk falls on the contractor.

My forefathers fought and died in The War to earn us all the right to spread invasive species into any environment we damn well choose. Anything else is communism by stealth and a socialist agenda that will have us all limited to floating toy blocks in paddling pools you mark my words this chardonnay swilling group of horsefaced women (if you can call them that) and lycra wearing seckually ambivilent blokes who've never done an honest days work in their lives just want to make sure the penguins are safe and the toheroas haven't escaped. Maybe we should get a flotilla together and protest on the streets. We should tow them with utes. And have hand-painted signs making wild and probably offensive claims about unrelated issues.
