What I do for a crust and totally unrelated to sailing....except it floats. I ordered the below 6 months ago and was at the factory acceptance testing in the video 3 weeks ago in Shanghai... and today it has just arrived at work in Laos.... Mainly to haul mining and earthwork machinery.

I Am considering getting one of these kits for a nesting tender.... what appeals is the low stacked height to see over.... anyone have a better suggestion similar?
  3. 260 nm to go... been a neat trip, good company and comfy capable very well looked after vessel.
  4. What brand/model cyliders are people using... I now need to buy one.
  5. I think the pressure valve is for the water pressure in the tank, not the engine coolant which you correctly point out is low pressure.... And the water in the cylinder will be some 15C below boiling if the engine is at 85C....below boiling point asuming we are sailing at sea level...😲
  6. Warm showers when my wife and I are out cruising for 10 days at a time mid winter around the Marlborough sounds...
  7. Pulled out the Gas Califont, in preparaition of installing a 25L engine heated hotwater cylinder. We always motor about an hour a day to and from anchorages and moorings... should be enough. Does anyone have experience they would like to share? Replaced the copper and brass, blocked grease line to the stern tube with a nice stainless set. I can once again pump grease into the tube before leaving the boat unattended without water dripping... Will go dripless seal in the future. What grease are others using? Replaced the little toy Rule shower/basin/sink grey water sump set up, w

A walk around the 2023 Port Townsend classic boat festival....
  10. Mate, I was having a little lay down in the garden the other day chatting with some of the veges as I do from time to time. You should hear what some of the spring veges had to say about their treatment... Potatoes being peeled alive, beans being scalded in hot steam, tomatoes being plucked and quartered... and as for the purpose built torture device the "Grater", mere mention of the word made the carrots shiver. And the words they used to descibe vegans, well!... made me blush like a beetroot they did!

Majestic and in a whole different league.....
  13. That is certainly a problem with the WC Daldy... constant exposure to the corrosive marine environment. The Earnslaw has the benefit of living in freshwater with minimal corrosion. That said, the Earnslaw was suffering from corrosion from the inside out, in the area of the boilers where the sulfur from the coal formed acids. There was also a lot of corrosion from the stock carrying days when the bilges were contaminated with stock urine. Back around 2003, we replaced a good measure of the hull plating, welding in new sections. Interesting that the original steel for plating and rivets was the

I have mentioned loose footed mains on a classic with a couple of you... this is what got me thinking...
  17. Are you happy with the loose foot set up.... ?

Were you always set up loose footed or did you make a switch.

If you made a switch, was it timed with a new sail or did you just alter the fixed foot sail and if so what did you learn?

I am getting ready to remove and varnish my boom and am wondering if I should make the change.

And thanks for the video votes...

Could use the track for a bag system to house main?

Could, I guess, but it is recessed in the top of the boom and I think I would much rather fill in the recess. Handling the sail is not too much of an effort... have even removed the lazy jacks which were chaffing.

Did the same with Lazy jacks, even though able to be pulled up to mast

  18. Have an Iridiun GO... used it for the delivery Auckland to Nelson and a small trip afterwards. Have removed it since as it really was not required and because I could not get the installation to look neat and tidy suiting the boat... that aerial cable was such a pain and needing the unit close to a window just made it all just plain ugly.
  19. I looked at that then stopped... and thought if I get connected I am compromising one reason to go sailing in the first place... Books can still be purchased analogue.... Maybe in a few years if I decide to venture far off shore then....
