  5. Was on the news... local fishermen were all prepared. So the other question will be, did the weather message get transmitted to all ships and should it have been heard. Storm warning system fell short, meteorologist says Lowinski, who also specialises in weather warning communication, says that safety should also be in the spotlight. “This particular storm system could already be seen about three hours before the disaster happened, far to the NW of Sicily,” he tells Euronews Green. “While local-scale severe weather, waterspouts, downbursts, etc. are always challenging to pi
  6. I am guessing the big question will not be stability so much as preparedness. With advance warning of the approaching weather front, was sufficient preparation made. hatches closed, water tight bulk heads sealed, tanks pressed up full or empty to minimise free surface stability effects and so on to prevent or control flooding?
  7. 😬... special coatings and scotch guard etc, but yup I am worried... however the admiral wanted slightly off white.
  8. Spot of sanding and varnishishshshing (Sorry paint fumes from working in the tent made me sthlurr my typing) Converted the main to loose footed and filled in the old sail track recess with a new strip of oregon. And installed the recovered upholstry Red wine, tomato products, beetroot, green, red and yellow curries are now banned substances on board.

  10. I heard is was a weather "BOMB" Lets see what the chinese wispers make of that.
  11. https://engrish.com/ If you like interesting signs and labels....
  12. All this talk about the keel being up being the cause... maybe we leave that speculation for those who understand the GZ moment for this particular vessel. Many shallow draft vessels have the ballast in a small keel or even have the ballast completely inboard such as the Boreals or Koopmans and are designed to still have a great positive righting moment. Some even recomend sailing down wind with sails up and centerboard or keel all or partly raised. I would say keel up for this vessel in this situation is perfectly normal.
  13. Is anyone using Hempel Globic 9000?... how is it performing?
  14. 😬 oh no.... another six weeks of free food and $0.75 beers
  15. I did think Aadrdvark was funny throwing that back at you... and I need a few small laughs

  17. "To a man with imagination a map is a window to adventure"... google maps with satelite imagry more so. I found that sunken boat while crusing around te coast of Sicily on my laptop. (Not much else to do at night time at this mining camp. The other day I found Hyundai advertising in the antarctic... -74.62408062044808, 164.22446156852746
  18. 37.98416567333028, 13.709466983699906 Paste that in Google maps and zoom in.... It is not the boat in the news, but in the marina close to where she was anchored. ( This image has been on google maps for some time, I had found it before today)
  19. Muppets But will be interesting to see what they find when they raise her, what actually did happen structurally.
  20. I was told many years ago... If you want to build a boat then build a boat, If you want to go sailing then buy a boat and go sailing, do not waste all that sailing time building a boat.... and I guess that advice also applies to buying a doer upper, avoid unless it is safe sound and can be enjoyed while you renovate. I have had a few boats and have many years in the marine industry... so when the boat I wanted came along, I bought it... in the first year I tackled maintenance items that needed doing, but went cruising in between. That still happens now, but there has been a shift from mos
  21. This mornings Nelson Marina fees update.... "Boat Ramp charges have been increased by 150% from $6 to $15 per use" That is a cut and paste....I am now waiting for a correction to come out.... I hope correction is changing $15 to $9 and not 150% to 250%
  22. One I prepared earlier... considering repurposing the pin rail into a shot glass holder....
  23. Heading out from Havelock the other morning... turned out to be one of those crystal clear days... no wind that day but some nice but fickle drafts on other days. First time into Tennyson and Elaine... lovely areas. Tucked up into a small cove... a sunset rum then a feed and nestled up by the diesel heater all toasted... Rinse and repeat for 8 days... just the tonic. Every anchorage to ourselves with only a hand full of pleasure boats to be seen.
