Funny noises that come and go with boat movements and swells are almost always a consequence of resilient mounts flexing. This became more prevalent with the introduction of resilient engine mounts around the 80s onwards. You may have the alignment correct stationary, but under load or as the boat pitches and rolls with "G" forces in different directions, the mounts flex and the drivelive goes out of alignment. Knowing what you know now, are you glad you used Kiwigrip three years ago?

So who has older applications of Kiwi grip... say 3 years or more. How is it standing up to wear and tear, what are the opinions on the durability and behavior underfoot, have you ever touched it up and would you use it again?

Thanks for the replies guys... I have been pondering this problem and also how to manage the aesthetics on a somewhat classic timber boat. Thinking I will go with a below deck hydraulic cylinder acting on a bell crank arrangement with a shaft through the deck then an arm and link to the tiller. The cylinder will have a simple bypass solenoid valve ... putting pilot in standby or turn off, opens the valve and hand steer away.... maybe.

Does anyone have experience with a Raymarine EV100 tiller pilot set up? "Does one need to remove the actuator from the tiller to steer the boat when the pilot is turned off ?"

We had a pretty good run, 8 days Vuda to Whangarei. We went further west than most, kept the Nelson option open for a while. I heard others were not so lucky, a dismasting and an abandoment.

We are giving Sat a shot.....

some who went out Monday were back on Tuesday... Sat 19th is looking likely.

Just trying to plan my work travel requirements around likely departure dates from Fiji after the 15th. I was just hoping some one here might also be watching the weather for this route and have some insights.
