  1. He's not the worst I've dealt with in Auckland.
  2. Sorry to hear that...thanks for passing on the news. My first keelboat was a Harmonic. Wonder how many of us have sailed his boats.
  3. I'm thinking whoever designed that grew up watching Star Trek... https://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/94554/why-did-warp-cores-become-vertical

  7. Oh no!! It's "interrupting views to the Harbour Bridge"! https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/402096/digger-stuck-in-the-mud-for-four-days-on-auckland-beach
  8. And also for the gal!
  9. Ravi Parent is a 2 time US Formula 16 champion from Sarasota (and as I recall he came within a broken daggerboard of the World title in Newport in 2014). He and his crew took a fairly spectacular tumble while training in Auckland recently for the Nacra 17 Worlds... https://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2019/10/23/video-what-goes-up-must-come-down/
  10. Voting is open for the public prize... https://www.yachtracingimage.com/gallery.html ...via Facebook 'like's, so it looks like you need to be signed in to FB to vote.
  11. Released today by the Ministry for the Environment... https://www.mfe.govt.nz/sites/default/files/media/Environmental%20reporting/our-marine-environment-2019.pdf I haven't read the report itself yet, but there's an article about it here https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/401175/nz-s-marine-environment-taking-hits-on-all-fronts-government-report Some snippets that caught my attention...
  12. FYI, good youtube channel from a Kiwi cruising on a Wharram 38...https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkHpXYj4icqUOkQZqkelyPg

    Luna Rossa

Thanks, I'll try that in future.
  14. Fascinating to see such different hull designs emerging.
  15. Meanwhile, my understanding is that Tuesday just gone was the deadline for Stars and Stripes to make their final late entry fee payment. I haven't seen anyone in the media report on whether they made it. Protocol article 7.1.c - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_ExIMB41vEZbOvjDpwjy6yzbyxVKjR-h/view
  16. The report itself cost $850,000, so looks like someone is already filling their pockets.

    American Magic

The class rule refers to "foil flaps" that are apparently connected to the foil wing and are moveable. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xZRwGU-q4zGlD1jfStdY2kpzVB9PM96w/view As far as I can see, the foils we've seen so far don't have them, so I guess there's stuff still under wraps.

    American Magic

Interesting to see how different American Magic's foil design is from TNZ... via Sail-World https://www.sail-world.com/news/222034/Americas-Cup-American-Magic-sailing-images More images here: https://farevela.net/2019/09/14/american-magic-le-foto-dei-dettagli-dellac75-americano/
  22. Thanks, I hadn't seen that, though it's not clear to me how Section 200AB of the Copyright Act they refer to there gives them an out. Unless they're saying ((1)(d)) "the use does not unreasonably prejudice the legitimate interests of the owner of the copyright"... because he's dead!
  23. Difficult to see how that would be legit. The edition they're distributing was published in Australia in 1972 by ANU Press (though the pdf includes a couple of pages that seem to be from a separate AH & AW Reed volume) and Australian Law prescribes that copyright lasts for 70 years from the author's death - 2002 in his case ... http://www6.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdoc/au/legis/cth/consol_act/ca1968133/s33.html I guess it's possible in general for someone to voluntarily give up copyright, but a second edition was published by the University of Hawaii in 1994, so you'd think they would
  24. Hey Matt, youtube videos used to embed automatically. The last couple I've posted have just been displayed as links. As far as I can recall I'm not doing anything differently. Did something change?
  25. May also be of interest...someone else with a very bad experience with CC, recently posted to YT... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVtzBenciz0
