An update on the NZ entry... https://www.theoceanrace.com/en/news/12251_-This-is-a-special-race-.html I guess this thread belongs over in VOR Talk.

Doh! Somehow when you said Motorboat, I immediately thought you were talking about the first one! Ah, the ravages of old age. But you kids gotta get more creative in naming your boats .

Interesting essay here (translated) on the ability of Olympic classes to handle a wide range of sailing conditions... https://www.sailingillustrated.com/single-post/2019/04/11/Olympics-On-the-unseaworthiness-of-certain-Olympic-classes-a-brilliant-essay-by-Michele-Tognozzi-ITA-in-Farevela?fbclid=IwAR0WIN9OPjAU_iGT1Tl92N31NKAKFXObOXqpuq61ptkNI1LA246AKREoVho One quote stood out to me:

Interesting comparing the 12m multihull stern-to rate with monohull-no finger... $604.50 multi vs $790.50 mono, a 30% premium for less real estate? What am I missing?

Thanks for the links. It is appalling, but not just for what the developer has done. The fact that they got away with it until the NZ media got involved shows that there is essentially no real rule of law or private property rights in Fiji. A cautionary tale.

Are you saying the class died? I see no nationals since 2016. What happened?

I checked the links (also found this one - https://rwponsonby.co.nz/blog/2018/february/22/heritage-champ/?utm_source=Robert+Munro&utm_campaign=04ff26e40f-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_02_21&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_0fa3db5437-04ff26e40f-207952709) but it's not obvious to me what is being referred to here: If this is not proceeding as intended, how and why?

Yep, Mander's book "Give a Man a Boat" is a classic.

Actually an AP article by Bernie Wilson. The scum at NZ Herald removed his by-line.

Does "suspend racing" have special meaning under the race rules or does it just mean a boat has decided to seek shelter for a time. Are they allowed to use their motor at all during this period, e.g. to help navigate into a safe anchoring location?

One of the first books about sailing I read as a kid. My dad had a copy.
