  1. I had squeaky floorboards where they were rubbing against one another and the cabinetry in the boat. I marked everywhere there was chafe, noted how tight it was in each spot then took them out and cut 1-2mm off from each chafing spot. This worked well. I cut them using a straight edge, a few clamps and a router with a copy cutter. Worked well. Before cutting them down I tried the fastmount system and it made the sqeaking worse in some places.
  2. We have recently installed an oven. It has changed everything, we can now precook meals at home, freeze them and just bung them in the oven half an hour before dinner time. We put them in those foil trays and throw them out after dinner. Very few dishes, no preparation time. It makes life on board alot less of a chore and gives us more quality family time. The biggest part of kids being happy on board is mum being happy on board. Oh, and beach time, wear them out!!! its fun for all.
  3. " I think if we are going to do the spreader jump we need a bigger boat!"
  4. Anyone have an old hand crank for a Yanmar 2GM20 they want to sell? PM me, Thanks, Ross.
  5. Thanks guys, I might do something in between and leave it two days, sand, clean and overcoat with Toplac. Its only part of my cockpit so not too critical, I would be alot fussier it it were the hull. Also I already have some Durapox primer and am thinking of using that instead of interprotect. Toplac specs does say it is suitable over any substrate...
  6. Hi, Does any one know if Toplac is happy to be painted over interprotect? I have some bare patches of timber on my deck, I have sealed them up with thinned epoxy and am thinking of using interprotect as an undercoat to give a little more protection prior to painting with Toplac. Is there any point to this or will Precote provide all the protection needed? Also, does anyone have any idea what the yellow undercoat pictured is? Its pretty hard so am guessing that it's a two pot system. Boat was built early 90s. Thanks!
  7. Hopefully next year we will. Bit dissapointing there are not more small boats doing these races.
  8. Hi Wheels, I had a big chat with the very helpful guy at the battery centre at gulf harbour today and he schooled me on VSRs and how they work. Turns out mine is working fine, when testing them initially I had just charged them, voltage was 13.5 so batteries were connected as they would be in charging state. When later tested voltage had dropped to resting state, 12.9v so they were no longer linked. Its always good to learn how and why these things work. Thanks heaps for your time John
  9. Hi there, can anyone tell me how to test if my VSR is working properly? I suspect that my house and start are intermittently connecting even when batteries are not in use. How should these units be wired up? I kind of like the idea of not having one at all and switching it manually to charge both but does the unit perform any other function other than just linking the batteries together for charging?
  10. Its at Gulf Harbour, K1 I think. Owner didn't sell, he may still be keen. Marina could pass your details on to him if you give them a call.
  11. OK, great, thank you for the replies, I have managed to get hold of a very small amount of primer off a local boat builder so will stick to what I know and use 290DC. I am also cutting it out by hand as its only a small amount, any bigger and I would make a jig for the trimmer or buy a plunge saw. FYI Wheels, Thank you for the post, I have used google before, just as I have recaulked decks before. What I was hoping for was an account from someone in NZ who had personally used TDS caulking and how they found it compared to our NZ products.
  12. In another 5 years people will be giving noelex 25s away. The new generation of sailor doesnt want a slow boat and there are alot of these around owned by people who are nearing the end of thier sailing lives.
  13. Hi all, I have about 2 square metres of deck to recaulk on a 9m yacht cockpit sole. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Teak Decking Systems caulking? I was told it does not require priming, is this right? I would use Sika 290DC except I cannot buy the primer in small quantities. The cost of the primer would end up being more than the caulking itself. Anyone know where I can get the TDS caulking? Is it as good? Thanks.
  14. If you want a fun trailer boat that has any resale value at all then your only options are an elliott 7.4 or Ross 780. Elliotts come up for sail about one every two years and asking 30k plus, About two R780s come up for sale a year and are usually asking 25 - 30k. The R780 on TM is a factory Hopwood hull and decks, Balsa core and comes with a heap of cruising gear, including autohelm.
  15. Ok, great, thanks guys. Will give this a go. I like the idea of having one less line in the cockpit too. How do you reef though? When I reef I have to lock off the furling line in the jammer.
  16. Ok, thanks, I guess being a smaller diameter mandrel it does require a little bit of effort to haul in, plus the smaller line is a bit hard on the hands. I have thought about tying the line to the winch and using it as a mandel but it will be hard to get it off once all wound on as the winch will not unwind. A good furl requires a little bit of haliyard tension which also adds to the load on the mandrel (another issue altogether as it requires someone to tail the haliyard during the drop, not great short handed). As for a downwind drop, I have swept back spreaders that the sail touches even
  17. Hi all, I have recently brought a boat with Anderson ST28 winches and I require the winch to self tail 4mm line for the furling main (mandrel will not fit larger line diameter). Has anyone ever heard of a type of insert that might fit into the self tailing jaws to allow it to accommodate smaller line sizes? The winch is only really used for line 8mm and smaller. Any other ideas? Thanks.
  18. Thanks for the offer Neil. not much point really. unless they are thinking of selling...???
  19. Yes, that will be her, thank you. certainly a nice looking boat and looks to be well looked after.
  20. Ok, cool, thanks everyone. Thats probably it. It had those classic yet modern lines and an open transom and was in really good condition (looked like new paint etc) Pity there werent a few more built.
  21. Hi all, a few years back I was anchored at Rotoroa Island next to a beautiful yacht called Jasmine. She is in the 30 to 40ft range I think (it was a long time ago). I was wondering if anyone knows of this boat and if so what design is she? were there any others built? I am now looking around for my next boat and for some reason this boat has stayed in my mind all these years. Maybe she is a popular design but I was new to sailing then so would not have been familiar with different designs. Any help would be appreciated, just want to know what she is and if any others were built? C
  22. Ross 780 for sale, heaps of new gear, ready to race or cruise. $27,000 for details call me on 021 034 6466.
  23. Wanted, 10m berth at gulf Harbour marina. will consider purchase or rent long term. Am not desperate enough to pay moonbeams for it however!
  24. I reckon ask all the experts about the right stye of anchor and size of anchor for your boat and then go out and buy the next size up. You will sleep so much better at night. Failing that COFFEE.
