  1. Pens have better re-sale value than a Yacht though BP
  2. Correct. Some do this, typically the bigger nationwide firms. Many Truck and Trailer units still do cross however.
  3. My little old Raven has mid boom sheeting with the traveller on top of the Cabin top and with a relatively small cockpit, the lack of a traveller in the cockpit is a bonus. My Mainsheet is like a "two speed" system with the Mainsheet being a continuous loop. Pull both ends of the loop and the main sheet comes in fast, pull just the one and it comes in slowly but with a lot less resistance. Obviously only a fairly small Mainsail, but the system works great for me
  4. You are not the only one lol. This is just a "pretend" strait . lol
  5. Alsop important if you are taking a burning pot outside to back out of the doorway
  6. I have used a Burns could one real life fire. Extinguished fire no worries big mess though. One of those things I suspect cheaper to buy new than get recertified
  7. Cheers. I will give you a call later on today
  8. Morning All I am keen to get some more miles under my belt and I am looking for Coastal or perhaps some Pacific Trips. I have been sailing on and off since I was a kid, starting in the mighty P class through various Trailer Sailers. I now am the proud owner of a Raven 26 based in Seaview, Wellington. Most of my sailing on her has been in the confines of Wellington Harbour but have made 4 return trips across Cook Strait in the variety of conditions that the strait can toss up! Much of the sailing I have done has been single-handed with 4 of the Strait crossings being solo. My Lon
  9. So you are in Coromandel town ? Beginning of June you were apparently in Napier http://crew.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic/13076-looking-for-someone-who-knows-how-two-sail/page-2 and heading south. Were you Berthed at Seaview Marina on F Pier in another boat at the beginning of this Summer with a couple of Dogs on board?
  10. Looks like a sail across Wellington Harbour in moderate winds.
  11. Cheers thanks Grant. Will do.
  12. Hi Grant Yes definitely looking. Not sure if the budget will extend to a glass starling though. Daddys boat needs new standing rigging haha
  13. Cheers guys Looking likely to head down the Starling route at this stage. Primarily due to the numbers sailing at his club and the fact many of his mates intend moving into starlings next. Will let you know what way we go eventually!
  14. Ahhhh i see! He has sailed both and has struggled a bit with full rig laser but would probably be fine with a 4. 7 rig but my guess is by the summer he will have put some more meat on his bones so would go ok with a full rig.
  15. My 14 year old son who is, already 6 ft tall is ready to move out of his P class . He is a bean pole presently weighing sround 53 kg. He is likely to be 6'2" or more by summer. Question is do we go Starling next or just progress to a Laser. I would prefer to not be buying a boat now then another next season. Anyone have a suggestion as to best way to progress ?
  16. Thanks Matt Can certainly understand. Have to grab them Appointments when you can! Good Luck with the appointment and recovery.
  17. Hi Sean and Matt I am keen on this trip but not sure whether my experience levels would be sufficient for your requirements, but just by way of a quick background I have owned Tandara, a Raven 26 for just gone two years now and most of my sailing on her has been in the confines of Wellington Harbour but have made 4 return trips across Cook Strait in the variety of conditions that the strait can toss up! Much of the sailing I have done has been singlehanded with 4 of the Strait crossings being solo. My Longest trip was Tandara's delivery from Nelson. Obviously I don't have loads of e
  18. At 3.8m reach, it would pick up about a carton of ciggies a,d even then would be a bit tippy!
  19. Is it just me or does that seem like a hell of an outboard for a Dinghy that size? Water Skiing maybe? But yes the ingenuity (even a little Misguided) of some people never fails to amaze!
  20. Cheers Mate How much are you looking for it? I am in Wellington but will be heading North between Christmas and New Year. Does that work for you? Cheers Jeff
  21. Hi all, Anyone have a P Class Mast and Boom Lying around cluttering up the place that the no longer want?
  22. http://gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/aucdsclnk?sl=41QSCI16031001 The old Girl seems to have been impounded in the US and is being auctioned by the Feds. Sad to see in such a run down state.
