Oh well at least Seaview not alone in its delusions of Granduer. That plan will see all Carpraking adjacent to piers gone, Boat ramp gone, On Hard storage gone, Lowry Bay Yacht Club Gone, but will probably include a shiny new office for Marina Manager

At least they are only making new Boardwalks in Westhaven. This little beauty is being dreamed up by Seaview Marina Management. The Marina Manager must have too much time on his hands and now thinks Marina Land is to valuable to simply park boats on. http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/business/74156895/council-considers-making-space-for-apartments-at-seaview-marina

Thanks for the write up Bluzeb. Enjoyable read. Good luck on the final leg whenever that happens. -
For my 2cents worth to the discussion As a skipper, I am at the less experienced end of the spectrum, and the majority of people I have on board are in that category also. This coupled with the fact that I am sailing in Wellington where, as we all know wind can come out of nowhere and get pretty nasty pretty quick means I have a rule of when we are underway, Life jackets are compulsory and if I venture out of the Harbour, a Tether is also compulsory. Maybe as I gain more miles under the keel and gain more experience and confidence this will change, but for the forseeable future, this

It will cost you $45 to do an online VHF operators course through Coastguard Education. It lasts a lifetime. Takes a couple of hours or so. As the Nike slogan says "just do it". You never know when you may actually need to use it.

Whats wrong with the marine industry in this country.

After many years in the construction industry, you have your head in the clouds if you think quoting is that easy Ketchup. Sure for new work it is considerably easier, but anything involving additions or alterations to existing work is a minefield to quote. Yes you can make assumptions and guesstimates based on what you believe may be behind that wall, and if you price in all those assumptions you will be sitting at home twiddling your thumbs as you will not be winning many jobs. This is all something of an aside though. The crux of the thread is that for small parts / jobs, wouldn't it -

The whole problem with the quoting / tendering process, is that "he who makes the biggest cock up, wins the job" -

It's an attitude across many industries unfortunately. Small trades hate "quoting" for small jobs but when this sort of stuff happens, regrettably you have little option other than seeking a price for just about everything before you buy it, which in turn drives up the price. I hate doing that, it slows down what should be a quick and easy process but because of the greed of some it is becoming just about essential unless you know and trust the firm and the people within it. -
I would hazard a guess the Council do not want them. They will continually ratchet up rents while letting them fall to bits until they need to be demolished.

No maybe about it!

And anyway, isn't prostitution an entirely legal activity nowadays anyway?
-
Similar issue at Seaview, simple solution in my view is have the gates locking in the hours of darkness, after all that is when all the drug dealing, murdering, assaults and prostitution is going on.

I would certainly be keen. Perhaps organise something through one of the clubs with a large cruising fleet?

When will the roadshow hit Welly?

Any port in a storm!

No, Mines a bit more basic than that

Is there a bad bottle of rum?

Bloody hell, you only realise just how big when you notice how much of the gap between the Queens Wharf finger and Fergs Kayaks she is occupying. When is she due to leave Grant?

Containers in the Water, Dead Horses on Adelaide Rd, Traffic stopped in Mt Vic Tunnel due to poo ! What is happening to Welly?

While the visibility is poor, it is not as poor as the decision making of the two or three yachts that crossed more or less under his bow. Even if the Bridge was well forward, he of course has very little chance of slowing down or altering course to avoid a collision in such a confined space. Just stay well clear of the bugger!

Really? you looked at the photos and could not see a cause for concern in either the boat or his abilities, or have I just been trolled?
