  1. The NZ sailors are doing well in the UK 29er Champs/European Cup which rolls over directly into the World Champs. http://www.29er.org.uk/results_reports/14_RESULTS_.HTM 1st, 2nd, 7th, 18th, & 45th out of 130 competitors.

  6. I bought my 15yo a Piedy, figured he is better off at a Piedy raftup than doing what I did in my youth! I did sail my Starling from Taikata to Rangitoto & back some 38 years ago. Ended up in the dark with no wind at low tide walking it back around the mangroves whilst Mum/Dad wondered where the hell I was. Hadn't intended to go that far, just seemed a good idea at the time & on the sail out I had never considered the time it would take to come back. Parents were not overly impressed as I'd only mentioned to Mum first thing in the morning I was going out for a sail...
  7. I heard a comment that they are not to be aligned with any one club. To me Okahu Bay always seemed a better choice, way more parking than Takapuna & easy launching.
  8. Popped up as a case study in a presentation on process optimisation I was reading this morning: The Port of Hamburg is located in the centre of the city, it is constrained by space and cannot expand. The number of containers passing through the port has doubled in the last 10 years to 9million per year, they are expecting it to go up to 25million per year by 2025. To cope with demand the port authority are looking to a new computerised process for optimising traffic flow. They will integrate details of ship movements, inventory and destination of containers on the ship, data on traffic flo
  9. I would check your wireless router at home has security enabled so the toilet roll cannot just connect out without you having to set the password.
  10. Coincidentally enough that presentation I mentioned from the founder of SAP also touched on the number of devices that will be attached to the Internet with sensors reporting back huge amounts of data. The subsequent analysis cross referenced with all sorts of other inputs giving companies insights into consumer behaviour. So not as far fetched as you think ScottiE, they may well have the sensors in the bog roll, which when referenced against a feed from sailing websites gives insight in to where a special could be directed & extra shipments needed. The aim of the game is to garner
  11. I was watching a presentation from Hasso Plattner at work today, co-founder of SAP & keen yachtsman. He was talking about software & modelling/predicting business outcomes and got sidetracked onto yacht simulation. He mentioned that in all the boats he has had built they would produce computer simulations & tank models against expected wind/wave conditions, and that the computer models would be accurate to 1-2% of the real world performance. He went on to mention that in the last Americas Cup the accuracy of the modelling went out the window as unlike displacement or planning hulls
  12. KM - I thought those links were based upon your interests & past viewing history!!!
  13. You figured out how to get it outside when finished?
  14. JP - not that there are many dinghy clubs between Kohi and Akarana. Akarana is more a keelboat club, Kohi is youth only and has good numbers but boat/trailer storage limited to the beach or roadside, Tamaki is more a restaurant/function centre with some Laser and Mistral sailing attached. That leaves Auckland Sailing Club who's numbers are regulated by the limited classes they sail. However, given the parking, storage, launching facilities already available at Okahu Bay a deal with Akarana or ASC would allow expansion of existing facilities.
  15. I bought a Parsun 9.9hp 4 stroke around a year ago to put on a small rib to chase the kids around in their Opti's. Have had no problems.
  16. I heard there were issues with the original Takapuna site due to a telecom fibre cable running through the middle on its way to the states, but parking would always be an issue there anyway. They could always have it at Okahu Bay, there is a heap more parking available. They could come to a deal with the skiffs & put up a flash new building. I understand there has been approval given for a crane & thus disabled sailing could be catered for.
  17. Dunno mbike, the biggest waste of money for me is the footbridge they are putting over the motorway from the happy clapper carpark to the boatpark at Westhaven. This has been years in construction & if you walk 50m further you could just cross at the lights anyway.
