  1. Yup welcome to Westhaven.

The marina that makes you feel all snuggly and warm to know that you are being charged just a infinitesimal amount of bitcoins to be able to park anywhere near your superyacht.

Try it out on my pier.

Parking is maxed out by cafe customers and the new traffic management system is to no longer tow but ticket.

Come on Westhaven management think about the customer the sea creatures ie berth holders.

Imagine how bloody mad the whole place will become when the commercial building platform develops.

  2. How the hell does that full blown twit Mike Hosking manage to force his bloated egotesticle bullshit into the living rooms of this country.

For christ's sake he is just a introducer of news clips, not even a properly trained journalist.

    On a $mil or more.

His verbal diarrhea in granny Herald is simply a daily joke.

    Tantrum over for now.

Back to the Townson recently lost.

The skipper comes across as a pretty switched on guy and his comment about the value of the liferaft safety course he attended is a timely reminder that being in a upside down raft and being able to right it needs to be practiced beforehand.

  3. POAL ACC Panuku AT have all had a hand in the planning fiasco that the harbour is now very much the poorer for.

During the discussions to secure Westhaven Marina back into public ownership a overarching waterfront governance body was mooted to no avail.

The whole harbour is fast becoming a piecemeal mess.

Have a close look at Councils decision to site the AC bases.

They are battle weary of the whole western reclamation tank farm area.

The failed court action to have Mobil remediate the heavily polluted tank farm area has the Council shouldering the entire costs.

The present bulk storage leaseholder has Council over the barrel regarding vacating the area sooner rather than later.

So much so that Council did not communicate with them at all regarding the AC base planning options.

  4. Wynyard wharf is adequate in length to berth these monsters but now a portion of that has been committed to the Cup .

The bozos in council continue to wreck the harbour and it is definitely time for this to stop.

  5. The hosting fee of a estimated US$80 million is a massive leap skyward compared to the fee paid to ACM for the last Cup in Bermuda.

ETNZ Inc shareholders are looking to the public for a bonanza bonus pay day. Whistle dixie you greedy selfish blackmailing pack of thankless twits.

Take it to Russia Italy Zimbabwe, so off you go bozos and good riddance .

As previously stated ETNZ has received great dollops of public loot and would have ceased to exist long ago without the public financial support.

ETNZ ask not what your country can do for you, ask what can you do for your country.

  6. Chris ,did you check that the gearbox morse control cable correctly engages the gearbox, ie has sufficient throw.

I too have had some gearbox dramas post a recently completed self done diesel heart lung transplant.

    Cone gearbox TMC40.

Original gb ratio not correct so run in period consisted of inability to run up to correct revs, changed prop to seek a solution(easiest) but still had black bum, still not correct.

Changed gb ratio (always carry a spare gb  ) and voila all was sorted, until at 200 hours gb failed to engage and drive in forward, removed and examined oil, metal in oil, bugger.

Changed out engine control morse cable etc, replaced gearbox as other one was toast and then paid very close attention to the engagement throw length.

Here is what I learnt, over my entire life I have had almost a obsessional aversion to paying anybody to do anything,so I tackle with a reasonably successful hit rate most of all life's tasks.

I now have a great respect for marine engineers and the contorted and complex environment they encounter daily.

My next boat will have the engine in the saloon and I will make the tea whilst the engineer goes about his business.

Part with the $$$ and pass the original problems ownership on to a professional.

Hah, wife has new car, I,m banned from lifting the bonnet.

  7. Completed new sliding hatch garage.

Bloody complicated time consuming task, make mould, laminate ply, glass ply, sand, prime ,undercoat,go to boat ,attack old garage with skilsaw, beautify ugly 45 year old black hole, prime, undercoat, fit new garage, pray that no epoxy was going to ooze out and jamb sliding hatch, sand, prime, undercoat and finally top coat.

    Yippee, now whats next....

  8. Just reconstructing my companion way sliding hatch garage.

Looking to install a 50w Goflex solar panel direct stick to said hatch garage.

Solbian do a 47w panel with inbuilt charge controller that pretty well runs out at the same accumulated cost of the required bits and pieces as the Goflex.

    Any opinions?

  9. Trying to get my head around the lack of detailed information that has been posted.

No info on the status of the engine or mechanical systems.

Overall at a knowlagble glance she appears tidy but the Seratone reflects her age.

Reserve has been met at 65k which is enticing and a commitment to haul and allow for survey is a positive.

I am not normally drawn to a boat of this size given the known annual costs of my 45 year old 10m woody.

What does a boat of this size cost to own?

    Marina?

    Haul and service?

    General annual costs?

Raw Cotton which may be larger but in immaculate condition failed to sell at just over 200k so what will this one sell for.

    I will say 150k max.

  10. I find myself not really caring if they take the thing to Italy.

Spending x hundred million on a new wharf to me is kinda like putting in a luxury you could easily do without, like say a swimming pool in your back yard when the mortgage is maxed out.

Or are the council going to come out of it breaking even?

    Councils never break even.

That concept is definitely not in the DNA of a TLA.

  11. Thanks for the info.

Got big farkin fright when speed bore bit disappeared for its entire length .

Luckily the rudder is well supported by 4 pintels and the nasty bit only held the flag staff atop.

Flag can go as it’s a joke colonial travesty and I have simply now have yet another bit of my wooden log that now sits as many others do on my shelf of boat memories.

Looking over my collection is a real journey through the last 15 odd years for this yacht.

The piece I admire and miss the most in a both practical and aesthetic way is my Samson post.

Finely crafted teak wonder that surrended to time that adorned my foredeck and its replacement was purchased and duelling installed and permanently regretted from day one.

  12. What is the best type of epoxy timber sealer preservative to apply to my rudder stock.

Have removed a portion of the top of the stock after discovering dry rot.

    EPG in Rosebank Rd.

    Evadure .

    West resin thinned with acetone.

    Bunnings Norski

Replace entire rudder with carbon fibre one and be done with the rot.

  13. What a beauty the Namsang was.

Stolen from NZ owner by an American ex owner/ scuzzball and lost in a river.

I remember she had a solid stainless steel sliding forward hatch that also included the anchor capstan.

I may be wrong but she was originally a ketch rig and then converted to a sloop rig which made the old girl creak and groan.

Solid burmese teak hull real old school build.
