  1. Weather looks like it's gonna be a lightish regatta. Not the best for the royal barge but I'm sure we'll battle on, as we do.
  2. I'd bet if you asked 50 random boaters to describe what a anchor ball is you'd get maybe 5 correct answers. If you ask what a day shape was you'd still only get a dozen or so correct answers.
  3. The Gypsy incident involved a big failure by MNZ which lead to a limiting of the possible outcomes. The whole incident was a litany of cock-us by many, if not most involved.
  4. With the help/consent/brave call of a very nice benevolent/crazy/brave bastard owner, I'm coming out to play as well now. Looking forward to it.
  5. A tale of 2 centuries I see. Battle one between the two 21st century boats and the bigger battle between last centuries. Nice work race organising mob and a interesting watch.
  6. Guess what happened at the orifice today? Exactly what happened to Terry. I now also have perfectly good extinguishers that are not legal plus some new ones. Fire gear checking dude told me exactly what Terry was told. 5 years between tests, the testers are thieves, new ones are cheaper. That is in a commercial work place. That's a little bizarre. I learn of it yesterday and get the same thing happen to me today. But at least I remembered it for 24hrs so I've got one up on Terry That's clever
  7. Just so happened I saw something from the boss bloke of Contiki Tours yesterday, the mob who specialise in trips for the sub 30's. He was saying that the days of drink, drugs and tents are gone. Today the sub 30's will just not camp, they want hotel like comforts. He was saying the 20-30yo's today are very different now than when Contiki started. It seems he's saying what your thinking P. From what I've seen I agree with you both, changing times.
  8. Smart of you to write it down then and I bet a pimply arsed teenager wouldn't have thought of that. See there is bonus's to getting old and crusty Nice post by the way, I didn't know that either.
  9. NZ is a high cost to build country for assorted reasons. So the only people who will build here are the 'doing OK thank you's' who will get a builder to do it. Or it'll be the home build. When you think back to the construction boom times a lot of the boat were hull n decks finished off by the owners. A lot of it today is the generation who did all the builds back in the 80's are now getting a little crusty. The new generation hasnot got the attention spans or desire to build. Add in most think sailing is only about speed and there is no way they could afford to build their desires. If
  10. Cheryl West would indeed love those.
  11. Too true Mr Bike. A year or 2 back we looked at changing our beast but after a good look around we came to the 'why bother' place. Once the tweak is finished she'll do all of what we want her to, bar doing it 10kts faster than she'll currently do , but at 150K minimum less than her replacement. We basically came to a place where we could have a new or newish 40+/- fter or a effectively close as dammit new 930 plus a pile of other toys. While new are currently cheap as chips they mostly are AWB's and SD correctly points out very few will be still going in 30 years time.

    Cyclone Pam

Metservice are saying less wind each update. But the rain is still there. Spend the morning on panic boat tieing up for people, as we did yesterday. Friday it was going on as well. The state of some gear is pathetic and quite frankly one or 2 of the marina operators should have their arses kicked for allowing such rubbish in their marinas. If a boat gets loose it'll just be a giant game of pinball destruction derby. Many marinas have rules about lines but only a small few actively enforce them. Interestingly we didn't get one call form the marinas that have proactive and enforced mooring l

    Fuel tanks

Excellent point Mr Bike. That's mid week thinking not Sunday morning I have a space that is perfect for 2 fuel tanks of about 25lts each but they would have to be hard shell and tuff due to their position. That would be very easy to do. Bladders wouldn't work well due to the shape. Currently using, which is also the way it'll go if not hard tanks, is the usual plastic ones with the hoses across the deck when in use. It works and is legal but it could be better and a lot safer. I suppose I better see what was in vogue back in 1927, now where are the YNZ Safety Regs?

    Fuel tanks

Is there any reason I can't build in composite fuel tanks for petrol? If so is West system OK or ???
  15. Not so much C and B for me, the best racing is usually not at the front of fleets. I'm liking the SS, R and JT battle, maybe it's just a Ross thing They are making good time back to Welly. I can't think of anyone that wouldn't be liking that today.
  16. So all the boats have finished L2 safely then...... He says only guessing from Nes's post saying L3 is about to start. I checked the organising clubs website this morning, as I have done everyday since the race started. It seems I need to give Marty McFly a ring and ask to borrow his Delorean. By only using the FB you are excluding a lot of people from following this race, especially after the seriously excellent communications leading up to the start gun. This is meant as constructive post not a bitch. It is also being made on behalf of 2 others I've spoken with this morning.
  17. 2 large rugby type socks. They are very effective and cheap stubby cooling devices.

    electrolysis ?

It doesn't need to be a steel boat. A few years ago in Tauranga a boat was leaking that bad it ate the props off stern legs for about 12 boats each way. It was also eating the marina components. Yet another poorly wired up solar panel.
  19. Now I've stopped laughing at the Interweb powered bog roll Sorry dude but he didn't. Stop using pastel colours. They may work well with your aura but they are damn hard to read. Yes I do know that can sometimes be a blessing
  20. What a coincidence, I'm also waiting for a reply.... from you!!
  21. Is Gucci OK? She doesn't seem to have moved bugger all over night. She in no weather maybe???? The Spy had a far better night than Revs and Jive Talkin. Well done that boat.
  22. I wouldn't have expected electrical with yours or most either but it does and can happen. But then the 1.8v boat I mentioned above was a Spencer Stiletto, who would have ever seen that coming. It's foredeck cleat had a copper band running up to the inside fastenings, it was all a bit weird and not just with that bit of the boat. It all tracked back to a poorly wired solar panel.
  23. As you seem to have not heard the 'reporter' say many times where the info he posted came from it does raise the question - Can you name the 'reporter' in question OC? Presenter is probably a more accurate title. I was thinking the exact same thing but I was hoping for a good link and story. For a moment there reading the way OC put it I had you pegged for a spy and when you think about it your business card does have you in a profession that would be damn handy if you wanted to get some 007 action happening. Can I ask, If you were to have a Martini would you prefer it shaken or
