  1. Huge Thanks for popping in with the comments Westy Team, much appreciated. What I was talking about is an ivory tower thing certainly in more lofty offices than you'll find us little people or your team sadly. From what I've seen and heard from most of late the last big shake up in the office there has proven to be bloody good for the marina. Sure some changes that have irked a few people but over all I do think it's running as good as it ever has since it changed ownership. Long may that continue.
  2. I must have told you a trillion times to stop exaggerating But I am probably right The world was discovered, sort of, by wind vanes. If you have the room and patience then why not? Lectronics are easy and at times far superior but they also have huge downsides. Use either just do so knowing the potential downsides. Exactly the same as getting married
  3. Chat to BP, he's done a gazillion ocean miles +/- the odd 1, and a lot was in 32fters. That's a well kitted out boat you have, nice.
  4. A slight aside but did you see the graph they put out showing the nationalities of the house buyers. No New Zealanders brought a house, not a single one. That dork Twitford must have me down as Scottish even if I'm generations from it...not to mention 15,000 miles odd. Probably fair I suppose as I have him down under 'retarded dickheads'. Note:I don't know who complied that table, it was published in the Herald. Years ago they closed Cheltenham beach to shellfish gathering. Bus loads (4 to 5 at a time) used to arrive and a line of people 100mts wide walked taking anything alive t
  5. Ah so that copper lump with lots of holes in it is a 'Bus bar' not 'buzz bar' as I incorrectly thought. That suddenly explains a few thing. Good to know one part of the system can crash without taking everything out with it..... bar the odd bit. Good writing there IT.
  6. For us thickies can you please explain what a 'Bus' is when talking electronics. Also if one part of a multi function system failed for whatever reason does take down all or parts of the rest in that system?

    Handheld Radios

My Raymarine hand held sort of died so I asked for a new battery. One of the helpful L&B lads showed me the battery pack is just a case with 6 x AA rechargeables in it. I recently upgraded the batteries again to 3000mA ones from the 800mA that were in there. More Power Tim!!!!!!
  8. And marinas are only going to get worse now it's fast heading to a monopoly ownership of Akl marinas plus the council. Who wants to raise money for a train? Who wants to develop marinas into a huge bank account so needs the council to help ward off the little people and turn a blind eye to some consent issues. No collusion I'm sure ....... cough... cough .... cough. All berth holders, hence forth knows as 'The scummy little people', are advised to get a big packet of condoms because you're about to be royally rogered.

    Rudder

Gezzz but a quick suss looks very interesting and it has a lot to do with foil shapes. I'll print it and have a read tomorrow. I can't read techo stuff like that well on screens. Thanks Sloop.

    Rudder

Not too sure how fast that last sexy looking rudder would be .......... but then if I had that strapped on the back would I care? I think knot Tubercles, hmmmm.... I do occasionally get cavitation ...... Not much and usually straight after a oppsie.

    Rudder

Wowww, those are either super sexy or someone needs to stop running into whales What's the thinking behind those blades Sloop, any idea? Tims would be a bit short I'd expect Scottie. My rudder draws only 300mm odd less than my keel.

    Rudder

Lovin the sexy shape, it's far flasher than my basic rectangle. I just staked a couple of other boats and we have similar but I think mines quite chunky. I have some measurements to play with tonite.

    Rudder

I have to build a new one. While I am seriously tempted to take a mold off the old one as it is a very chatty blade does anyone know of anything new, interesting, in R&D or of interest for someone looking at that specific subject?

    SSANZ 100

Good reports and videos, Thanks all.
  15. How did she finish up in the end? What's next for her?

    KZ3 & KZ5

Mine have less than that unless it has something to do with shoes, clothes, food or vampires.

    KZ3 & KZ5

They can't have been that bad, more watched them go around the track than the AC gets these days. The racing was far more spectacular and unpredictable than it is today which is probably why.

    SSANZ 100

Off to carbon now Ptown? Maybe see Rafferties Rules and go in for a Ross boat bulk discount

    KZ3 & KZ5

They certainly are majestic vessels. The AC lost a lot when they swapped from majestic to the iPopcorn beach cats they use now.

    anchor chain twist

That's the key right there Once you swap to the 8 braid I'm expecting your problem will cease. I expected you'd know even if you didn't know you knew or maybe only suspected you knew you'd know. Simple really We see a lot of old rope but more often new ropes gone bad issues like that. It's all about 2 things, one being age as yours sounds like, we all get a bit harder and crustier with the passage of time, so do ropes. With the new ropes it's all the second thing, thermal stability. Back in the day, not terribly long ago, we only had ropes with lots of TS but today we are seeing
  21. You haven't seen the speed I go at, I'm like a turbine under Lake Manapori but I'd go with you're right and it's just crap spelling.

    anchor chain twist

I seriously doubt its the anchor, I wouldn't go there until you eliminate many other things first. Sounds unusual but like a rope issue. You using a winch or capstan? This question applies to the current issue plus your comment about going to the mulitplait. Swivels are fine as long as you buy a decent one. One on the market that's been race rallied and rolled yet still won't break under 4,000kg, which is a load higher than any non first world country made chains will get to. But the swivel is on the other end away from your twist so it wouldn't do bugger all anyway.
  23. Another one. Being a tad humid the powers can get a bit clumpy at times. So I scored one of these old school things. No idea what they are called bar maybe a 'Sifter'. The idea being you chuck flour or whatever in the top and pull the handle leading to the star like gizmo spinning around in the bottom so only nice fine un-clumpy powers fall into your resin. Makes it far faster easier and smoother mix. The balls of power left can very easily squished with your finger and then put thru the gizmo so no waste. I know these things are the realm of extreme bakers and Grandmothers but I did f
  24. Depends on how you do it and the time you have. One side at a time is lighter And if you make panels then cut your own you can pop out to the shed Monday morning for a quick anchor locker hatch build to find a handy offcut sitting there. Not that I'm being super fussy but I do like my new hatch at 405 grams as it 10 times gruntier than the 665 gram one it replaced. I just re-read that and thought 'You anal bastard' Dyneema hinging utilised on this hatch as well.
