  1. I was anchored at Matiatia for the blow on Saturday night, 40m of chain out in 5m of water... noisy but we only moved about 5m all night. Scared the hell out of me at one point i stuck head out of hatch to check things and couldn't find the ferry terminal... power cut.
  2. new asking $150 about $250 at retail see http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1240994438
  3. ok cool just found this 3m dry guide coat system, like the sound of this and about $60 nzd https://youtu.be/c3B4VWA4cE4
  4. I have started sanding some deck surfaces and some teak. I am going to use Awlwood on the teak, and start with 2 roll on coats of Awlgrip 545 primer on the deck before sanding and spraying topcoats. The 545 Primer PDS says Gelcoat/Fiberglass: Sand with 100-150 grit paper The old white paint is very rough and is coming off easy enough and I am going to fair a few dings etc with west and micro-balls etc.... I seem to be back to a slightly yellow primer coat. So my question is really how smooth a surface do you need to get a great final finish, whats the best way to be able to see
  5. Anyone on this board used the TDS product? Thoughts vs Sika? I am looking at using Sika 552 on bulwark gaps and TDS on deck...
  6. So where to buy TDS SIS-400 300ml deck caulking cartridges in NZ ?
  7. you could just fix these and then epoxy these areas only, the old antifouls doesnt need to be stripped off entirely just the growth etc.... get some of the open hex sandpaper sheets they are magic, so is using an old rupes 1/2 sheet sander via isolation transformer spray the area with water first.... the rupes floats and strips no dust.... i can do an entire boat in a day, its holding the sander above the head that is tiring... I normally then do 3 coats of the ultra hard stuff... stays on better then others i have tried and my boats in the tamiki river so lots of growth

  15. you guys just keep raising the $$ bar will research i am willing to pay for quiet of genset....the main engine doesnt worry me so much how muck is Vybar per sq m ?
  16. Weight is not an issue at all, I am after thick insulation (current is about 30mm... but if its good stuff thinner would do, the unit I am doing first is a 5kw genset and I will be measuring it up this week but think its going to be about 5sq m all up....after a good source of general purpose engine mounts as well. I don't expect it to be cheap.... I have used forman for homebrew mashtun insulation may go see them as often better deal direct
  17. I want to re sound proofing a few things, anyone got a good source of sound proofing engine bay safe materials?
  18. Where did you get this product Dripless Stuffing ? what is it? Also is there an online tutorial on aligning motor / shaft ?
  19. I draw about 2.3 and keep my boat up at panmure, I can always get into the estuary via the Karaka bay (western side). I \always seem to have 3.2m under keel this side (stay in the deepest as long as possible on your chartplotter and cut across the shortest rout between the shallows, don't stray out towards browns. there is a lot of tidal flow.
  20. looks like some eastery coming through.... what do the different models suggest will be the worst of it?
  21. where is a good link to get hi Res Grib files for Hauraki / Corramandal etc
  22. The less you rely on technology the easier the cruise for sure...... OpenCPN is worth a look if you have PC on a boat though, just got the Grib file thingy working and if I had the PC version (have mac) then you can use the wind routing stuff, all free.... its 90% of the multi thousand dollar commercial software..... still looking for a tcp/udp based AIS feed .. anyone ?
  23. ok sorted, found out that the usb port does not release from use, I was getting the GPS Utility app to tell me position then trying Opencpn and no joy, if you reboot box and just open Opencpn it grabs the port ok, have position etc now, now starting to add the plugins to OpenCPN, Pretty cools software ... might get one of those little AIS recievers ....
