  1. I was at Moturekareka Island for a short time (and should have stayed longer) just before NY eve and it looked like Pysche and crew/family had a top spot. Are you allowed to camp on the island or was that just a daytime set up. We have 7 on board including 3 young ones and left to go to Bon Accord which was windy and wavy, ended up near Algies Bay (Goldsworthy - which was cold, windy but less crowded) for the night. I was advised that Moturekareka is only a day stop usually but that is if it goes a bit west I suppose.
  2. I think Wil Horne from Truxton has one, have you got his contact details?
  3. Heading to the Merc's around 19th December then Waiheke, Xmas in Westhaven and NY at Kawau Is. Subject to weather conditions of course! Already testing the ground tackle, 3 boats rafted up in the Western Channel on Friday evening.
  4. How about a diesel specialist, looks to have a sealing washer in there, diesel fuel leaks easily from the smallest of spaces. Possibly fuel pipe end is deformed too.
  5. It seems to have Simrad compass and controller, IT what do you think would be the best outcome. The head unit looks to be too damaged, at the bottom right is corrosion on the micro processor legs
  6. That was our best race, our reward for being hammered. Slightly cracked sheets, 20-30 knots with sloppy will swell combined with 2-5 NE swells with occasional breaking tops. We went for the rhumb line and going through the Hole in the Wall we picked up nice swells at 13+ kn boat speed. Waves breaking on top of us whilst passing Mercury Bay killed our autohelm and soaked the crew!
  7. I'll have a look tomorrow thanks IT,
  8. This is a long shot, my controller failed over the weekend - the screen went black when a wave landed in the cockpit. Does anyone repair them or has anyone got an old unit lying around. Otherwise can another newer controller be integrated into the system, the motor and ram was working well such as the Simrad AP44 unit I see advertised, Andy
  9. The Legends is a 4 race event, 2 races are there and back with 2 island based events. Most of the yachts set off from Tauranga on Friday morning where the NE winds and swell were pretty horrendous especially later in the day around Mercury Bay. One Tri dropped it's rig and many crews suffered fron sea sickness stopping off at Slipper Is. Large swells with the occasional breaking crest in winds around 20-30 knots were the order of the day! Saturday was a GPS course to the west of Great Mercury for the survivors followed by prizegiving (highlight of the event) in the Cove. Sunday was around the
  10. I didn't put any on mine for 6 months, it was easy to clean off barnacles and then Propspeed, but the painter reckoned it didn't matter and he could paint it from new without any problems
  11. Some damage to one Riv - up on hardstand now at Bridge Marina
  12. I only watched the highlights but that was heart stopping racing over the final few laps, amazing stuff - Marquez has an amazing fan base also, apart from a brilliant riding ability!
  13. IT, I managed to onto the General to take some images, this Garmin (updated 2019) display doesn't fully show the danger of the rocks going into Coralie like your display, from a distance (chartplotter mounted in the cabin entrance) it isn't that obvious that the rocky area!
  14. Yes, IT, see that reef structure on the northern side in the narrow entrance which looks quite obvious in this image, is actually very solid and not that obvious in the Garmin map, I entered at hign tide and with calm conditions and found it, the reefs to the south made me stay away from there! Next time no problem and I had been there plenty of times, I will take a photo after lockdown.
  15. I have the latest update of the Garmin charts and the entrance of Caroline Bay at the Mercs is a bit vague, compared to Navionics, we managed to hit a shallow rocky area on the Nortern side of the entrance - not good! Open CP showed a better image also!
  16. I was reasonably tall with long legs. The bike was super quick, as Dick Lawton was known in road race circles for building the Suzuki TR500 gp road bike that was faster than the factory bikes https://amcn.com.au/editorial/smokin-suzuki-xr05/ for Keith Turner and others. The first race start for me had me overshooting the first corner and hearly flying off a bank, luckily I was stopped by a fence, such was the speed difference from my own bike.
  17. I spent around 12 years racing off road, mx and hare scrambles. I mainly rode Suzukis and sometimes got a chance to ride Greg Brinck's (NZ no.1 at the time) RM400 that had been fully worked by the legendary Dick Lawton from Lawton & Boyle (Wgtn)
  18. Cruising down to the Sounds and Tasman area is on our agenda, hopefully we can get down there and meet again. Couple of years away at present but nice to gather information from others and dream at present!
  19. We have owned General Jackson for around 3 years in Tauranga, a Compass built GRP Farr 38. I was unsure if we (wife and I) could handle such a large yacht but it has been a great boat so far. We club race it, cruise it and fish off it, what a well set up boat it has turned out to be for us to enjoy. The boat was formerly Jenny G, a well known yacht raced in the Auckland area for several years by Alan Gibbs with the name derived from his wife. It was extensively renovated after changing ownership into the state it is now, focussed on extended cruising from which we have benefitted from!
  20. I have to report that Lynx has been neglected over the last few years as indicated in the listing - also, Jono, you could be losing your touch about it's former owner. Chris Cochrane (Dr.) owned Lynx and maybe Dr. Dave sails a 930 in Wgtn. or Dave Cochrane sails too
  21. If you call in to Kilwell, perhaps when you are in the BOP again, you can inspect their range of tubes and select a suitable tube. They have lots of seconds sitting there at reasonable prices, usually only cosmetic faults are present.
  22. Not the best today and looking bad for tomorrow, managed to get some fishing in yesterday before it came through. Did you get down F pier?
  23. Both unlocked except for a couple of piers
  24. My boat came with a califont which is usually a no-no these days, so I fitted a rectangular 16 litre Isotemp hot water cylinder with tempering valve and 240V supplementary and that has been a bit too small if too many showers are taken but I also had limited space. I also fitted shut-off valves at the engine inlet and outlet just in case there is a problem with the hoses or heater to allow for normal engine operation. Subsequently, I fitted 2 valves to allow for califont operation when selected when the hot water runs out.
  25. If you were in Tauranga I have some Telescopic gauges and external micrometer that would be suitable, they are available on Trademen for around $30 and other places $60
