  1. Pretty much finished getting the boat out of race mode and into cruise, with a few new mods to make life comfy. The forecast looked like an overnighter to motiti would be the go to score some kaimoana so quickly organised that. It was a shame that 10 knots NE turned to 15-20 knots N, with no proper anchorages for that wind direction. It started as a rough night but that thankfully around 2 am it went NE and we got some sleep. It was all worth it today when I speared my PB kinghy for xmas dinner. I was happy as larry until i realised that the fridge was broken and I had no way to keep it co
  2. Thanks for that. I will have a quick sus tomorrow when I'm back at the boat and see if I can find where it has failed.
  3. Hey guys Took the boat out today and discovered that the fridge isnt working. Im pretty sure there is a hole in the lines somewhere as the compressor is still drawing amps. Any recommendations for a marine fridgey in tauranga?

    Hose clips

Maybe some thick wall heatshrink would do the trick?
  5. Thanks for all the replies! I think that Mahurangi/Kawau area is definitely looking like the go. If you see Pork Chop out there in January come over and say hi
  6. I think skinny locks you to a tower. Try taking it elsewhere and the charges change
  7. Hey everyone I'm trying to get the family into sailing and have put aside some time to take them cruising in the gulf this summer. My wife who doesn't like boats much and get seasick easily has said that she wants to be able to sleep in a tent at night. I have found a few doc campsites around at motutapu, motuihe and motuora that could work. Also Poukaraka flats on Waiheke could be an option. Do you guys have any local knowledge about these places or suggestions of other places that could work? Cheers
  8. Hey everyone The Tauranga Yacht & Power Boat Club, supported by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, would like to welcome you to the 2018 version of New Zealand's oldest coastal yacht race, the Auckland to Tauranga. The start date for the 2018 Auckland to Tauranga race has been moved from Easter to Waitangi Weekend. The Start will be Saturday 3rd February 2018 at 1400 hours. Please note that Tuesday 6th is a holiday so you can take the Monday off work and have a nice cruise back to Auckland. Hopefully this new date will mean better weather and a more enjoyable race! See the
  9. At least she would know a few good knots
  10. 50 hours of delivery for one race, or 4 races, no delivery, and lots of time for rum, diving, scollops and general fun. There's no real competition for me. If the boat was based in auckland it would be a different story.
  11. Peachgrove and coralie bay are my favourites, good snorkelling/spearing at both. If you are into spearfishing never fail rock is a good spot but can have lots of current. I haven't had much luck at the sisters. You'll love it. The mercs are amazing. Also the mount yacht club is doing a regatta there on labour weekend that is always a blast if you want to have some good company. It's one of the highlights of the year for me and what originally hooked me into sailing.
  12. Make sure you get a DC clamp meter. More expensive and less common than AC ones. Mine comes in really handy for fault finding.
  13. Yea ok. I'll do some work for you. 100 estimate but secretly it's gonna be 2k. Final price is final price dude don't complain. I'm sure someone reckoned final invoices have to be +20% max bigger than estimate. Don't know if that's legal though.
  14. I think if he wanted to negotiate there would be some communication. Just my 2c.
  15. U guys are better than me. I've had several disputes over the years such as sabres and if they are unreasonable and unwilling to work it out I let them send it to the debt collectors. I don't see the point in chasing people up so that I can pay them. All you have to say to the debt collector is that you are willing to pay but have an issue with quality/cost/whatever. The debt collector will then kick it back to the company and the company will come back with their tail between their legs and renegotiate. That's how it has worked for me anyway. Oh and we have used said rigger with n
  16. That sucks. I'm a fan of regular checks and a huge fan of RCDs. Got a belt from a dodgy builders extension lead once and the rcd tripped quickly enough that there was no damage. Oh and once I tested a brand new tool with no earth continuity. Maybe testing before putting into service is a good idea. China isn't known for its amazing QA processes....
  17. Was that the same dog that thought our liferaft painter was a tug toy?
  18. That's the truth! When we got pork chop we went from a basic boat to one with electric everything, 0183, 2k and ethernet networks. It took me a while to understand how it all connects up and works. Bloody raymarine's proprietary everything doesn't help!
