  1. So She lives again. I got this off dambo a couple of weeks ago after he realised after she became a garden ornament for a year that lack of spare time, enthusiasm etc etc was against him. Coat of paint and Young mr Harken and I were off for a blast to see how good the boat was and much we could break before sorting the deck gear and cotpit. The great news is that the boat is awesome!! Goes like a rocket and is easy to sail fast ( much easier to keep upright than a 12 or int 14). We hit 15's downwind and planing upwind. The good news is that the hull seems worth restoring further an
  2. The entertainer would probably be the pick of the racing 930s she's got a really good keel and good sails. Entertainers interior is pretty basic though. squid has been really well refitted and has new deck gear and god sails but original keel but has a god interior There is another 930 at gulf harbour called shockproof with a really good interior t keel, new mast and god sails. Worth a look
  3. Yep we have a r780 and the 8hp Yamaha 2 stroke long shaft is a great engine. Light and grunty. Would be loads for a noelex 22. 6 horse would do the job. I recently used a 4 HP to push a platu 25 upwind from gulf harbour to the city and it coped well too.
  4. So from the phil Clark SD crew. I am NOT rehab, know nothing about him and don,t agree with any of his veiws. It was a brilliant race and the tracker worked well.taeping won the marina race. Thanks to Mr hart and the rest of the crew for a totally brilliant weekend and to our competitors. Who would have thought that after 12 hours of racing we,d be splitting tacks with beau geste and taeping at cape Brett. Utterly brilliant race
  5. yup thats exactly the one that I'm gonna give nigel tonight. standard fosters fitting. bart at nz rigging has a couple of boxes full of brand new ones.
  6. In defence of the bow people apparently it was bungied to the deck. Not one of the 10 crew onboard saw it go over the side. It was a very sneaky kite pole.
  7. I have a mast base that might do the trick. Drop me a line on 022 151 0198 cheers phil
  8. Can't be too hard to fill the new pole with foam so it floats eh simon
  9. we went on sat. on the list was looking at what deals the sail makers had on and a sup for cruising this year. good range of sup's and great to compare the different manufacturers and prices. That was really good and I've pretty much chosen what we're after. Norths and evolution absent, only doyles were there and didn't notice any deals so I didn't bother. Apart from that, a pretty reasonable amount of yachts, even some racier ones which was a change. Glad I sourced some comps as I wouldn't have paid $ 18 for it.
  10. adjustable is pretty standard on r780's. Its good to let the rig tension off when she is at rest ( which is most of the time). Also the adjust the mast rake upwind and down wind. I run a fixed forestay on RR but adjust the rake slightly for light and heavy weather.

    SSANZ 50

Rafferty rules / boatsprays ssanz 50 So thanks to simon from boatspray we had the use of a platu 25 for the race as RR was still a fizzboat after the last one. Awe got an average start at the leeward end of the line but it meant we were out of the tide. An inside gybe at ranging light gave us a handy lead on some of the fleet. Then a beautiful kite run to noises. Kite down and into the noises wind shadow saw nexus and revolution catch up. We managed to squeak out of the wind shadow first and a couple of tacks later picked up a good lift to Crusoe rock. We seemed to leave revo and nexus behi
  12. Yep ARCO are great just give them a call
  13. Hi there Come and have a look at Rafferty Rules if you like when we're in cruise mode in October. We're in homestead road. Our boat is about the same size and has the same issues. Looks like you have a pretty sweet set up to be honest; This is what we use- Toilet - chemical toilet for number 2's. no through hulls, can't block, has an inbuilt holding tank and its cheap. bucket and chuck it for number 1's. keep it simple. Waterpump - electric, just makes it easier and you can chuck a tube and shower head onto the tap for a shower. Cooking - we have a 2 burne
  14. one more point as some one else said having an unreliable engine can destroy the fun of owning a boat and definately heightens your stress levels when cruising with the kids. Its just not worth going cheap.
  15. I've had a yamaha 9.9, 4 stroke and a yamaha 8 both used for 7.8 metre trailer yachts. The 9.9 was ok but very old and pretty heavy. It became unreliable in the end and I was pretty happy to see it go with the boat when I sold. I noticed that the new owner had replaced it. The yamaha 8 is awesome and runs faultless as long as you run it dry and flush it with fresh water, change the plugs once a year and keep an eye on the impellor. Alos dead easy to service your self as they are sooooo simple. I think its got similar power to the 9.9 4 stroke but drinks more fuel. I seriously
  16. crikey we won't miss you. looks fantastic. yay for another ross boat being resurrected.
  17. I got one thanks. good luck with your listing.
  18. Awesome replacement for zilchy . Well done Holly and Carey !!!!!!
  19. if you take the track to the cabin side you should be all good. I have the full length track on my 780 and its great for cruising though as we spend most of our time reaching. I also have a fractional zero on a furler (made from an old no1) which I use heaps cruising too.
  20. That was exactly what I was after. I've been in touch with Graham at Tauranga bay electronics and he's awesome. Going to load the updates on a card and just charging me for his time once I send the card back to him. The power of crew!!! Thanks
  21. Yep tried both. Garmin support is actually Australian support and don't offer any upgrade service and no support. The Nav station don't have an update card. Which is a pity.
  22. yeah I read about the $50 USA deal. I figure it will end up being $ 100 by the time I get it landed in nz. No luck so far finding a dealer with a card.
  23. Hi all Has anyone got a Garmin GPS data card with the software updates on it. Can I borrow it, rent it, buy it off you. I have a GPS map 292/298 which I'd like to update the sofware on and I need to get a card from USA to do this which will cost around NZ$100. Just thought Id try here first. Cheers
