  1. Very tempting. He seems to be so eloquent and will have lots if interesting stories (and one would hope footage) to share. I am in aAckland on the Thursday. I wonder if I can convince the boss that I need to stay there for Friday too.
  2. Oe of the boats hit the rocks in Sydney that year. Iirc
  3. Lucky you. Is it good viewing from shore? I missed by a week the Cardiff edition a few years ago and wondered what it would look like from a spectator view.
  4. Easy way in windows to make it smaller is to open it in the picture viewer and click on 'email'. It will ask how big you want it. Choose large and it'll be just perfect. It'll open an email with it attached. Just copy or save that to desktop and you can upload it from there.
  5. You got that right. Bazzathemammoth can source me a switch for $140 which I declined as it sort of defeats the purpose. I'm gonna try a regulator as you suggest. I'll work one out and we'll compare notes. My fall back is a spring loaded syringe and micro switch.
  6. Thanks for the idea Wheels. My guess was that it would be better for the pump to be turned off when down to vacuum and turned back on when more vac was needed. With a regulator the pump would run continuously, would it not? Do you think the pump is ok if it is running for 5 hours or so while the resin goes off? It be real helpful to know what amount of vacuum is actually needed. KM?
  7. WARNING: This post has lots of "rough as" stuff in it. I was inspired by the Vacuum Bagging No8 Kiwi style post by Guest_* a while back and, having a spare weekend, decided to see follow suit and make a vacuum pump from and old mini bar fridge I had laying around. I spent a bit of time trawling youtube and found that this was going to be easy as. In point of fact, I discovered that the more rough I was prepared to be, the easier it has turned out. In double point of fact, this turned out to be so absurdly simple, I did it all with only three tools (my whole toolkit was 12
  8. Both starts? Or just the long haul?

    Cyclone Cook

It was a bit short lived in TAURANGA but long enough for D1 to get stranded in a flooded street at the mount. Drenched daddy to the rescue.
  10. Done all that plus tightened the runners to steady the top mast. I'm more concerned about the boat heeling over and clipping the Grand Banks trawler beside us.

    Castlepoint

It's a great place to visit. This you tube clip is interesting. https://youtu.be/d2sw2Hjku2E
  12. Cool memories. Boats, like houses, are bigger than they were. And probably need to be.
  13. Ouch. Now that's a time to be wearing an LJ.
  14. I notice that there hasn't been any comment on this racing series. Does anyone on Crew follow this? I don't really follow it but enjoy watching when I get time (actually I enjoy watching any yachting except - no, can't think of anything I wouldn't enjoy watching). It's streamed on you tube: https://www.youtube.com/user/ExtremeSailingSeries There are two NZ teams this year and I hadn't heard anything about them. Plus two of the other teams are skippered by Kiwi's - Adam Minoprio And Phil Robertson. I suppose the only place this sort of thing would get announced is Yachting NZ
  15. I had a trimaran at okahu bay that had a hole about the diameter of a milk bottle. I suspected a skiff or R class but what can you do?

    BAR crash

Foot slipped off the brake onto accelerator?
  17. I'm not sure the darkening of the colour is an issue for carbon as it is for timber, since it is black. More one of visibility. I'll have a look at the awl wood too.
  18. Thanks for the advice. I'll see what I can find.
  19. Wheels are you suggesting something like a clear coat they use on cars?
  20. Cheers Andy. It is just a touch up. I'll organize to get some via email.
  21. We have several carbon rub/deck protection. Pads where the top layer is peeling off. Also our carbon spin pole is scratched and dinged. What's the best product to recoat them with?
  22. I had mine stripped and sprayed and ended up being the most valuable/expensive part of the boat.
