  1. Unlikely, race doesn’t start until the 15th????
  2. It’s Cat 3 plus You must carry a life raft (dinghy on deck is NOT acceptable) 33% of your crew must have a current advanced sea survival certificate. Sat phones I think are recommended but not mandatory The catagory classification is usually determined by a conversation between the organising committee, YNZ and maybe the solas(?) committee. There are broad guidelines but you can make tweaks like this race and the coastal have done.
  3. At least I used the spell checker, just managed to pick the wrong option
  4. Lucifer – Coastal Classic 2019 “It’s defiantly a masthead kite off the start” – Adrian Percival At the start we were tight at the northern committee boat end, Ave Gitana, the Crowther tri, coming in fast behind (hi Liz) and Epsom Salts just above. Kite up and off we send, big gusts coming through, doing over 23 kts and heading for the Motuhie channel at this point. Go for the gybe, and we are pointing straight at Rangi, gybe angle in the breeze was a whole 60 degrees! Kite down, jib up, drenched within 5 minutes of the start, and we were off on a cracked sheets send up to the lighthou
  5. We'll have a look at at during the debrief and see how it can be tweaked for next year. The lighter 35-45 footers that sit in Div 2 and 1b are very active at the moment, and div 5 has some of the classes in it like the 88's 930's and 1020's which all enjoy racing each other. Div 3 and 4 is a tricky area though as it used to be the domain of the heavier slower keelers, but there aren't too many of those racing these days. Case in point,1 fully turboed 930 was in div 4 and cleaned up by over an hour on line, although they still got beat on line by the fastest boat in Div 5, which wa
  6. The division splits 1a to 5 are phrf based. These were set in the NOR before any entries were redirected so it says more about where the active race fleets are at the moment. 8 no extras I think is a bit of an anomaly , as it has likely lost a few boats to the cruising rally, which in its self arms to be growing well.
  7. https://www.rnzys.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/2019-20-rnzys-standard-sailing-insturctions-v2.pdf What's the story here? From experience this sort of doubling down and clarification of rules usually means someone either really took the proverbial, or put themselves and others in significant peril. Anyone know more?
  8. If it's mission critical to have a 50" wide roll and you don't mind waiting a little while you could order from soller composites in the US and get it shipped
  9. Just get a taxi, it's what I'll be doing and you don't run the risk of some scumbag breaking into your car. Plus you can drink as much rum as you like in the delivery home as you are getting a taxi ????????
  10. I've seen a cocktail blender adapted from a 2 stroke weed whacker.. plenty of power and everyone at the anchorage will know where the party is...

  12. It was all part of the AC36 resource consent. Admittedly that was one of the fastest consent application processes but was certainly widely consulted and communicated.
  13. The boat designers OCD get the bettor of them in making the boat symmetrical Either that or they just designed one half of the boat and used the mirror command in CAD to save time

22V Hilti - we just don't bother buying anything else for cordless tools on site anymore. They take a ridiculous amount of abuse and keep on going.
  16. Navigation safety bylaws - 2014 https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/plans-projects-policies-reports-bylaws/bylaws/Documents/navsafetybylawcontrols2014.pdf 54 Duty of person in charge of a vessel under 500 gross tonnage (1) The person in charge of a vessel under 500 gross tonnage must not allow their vessel to impede the navigation of any large vessel if the vessels are in a pilotage area.
  17. Already at 106 entries! Remember you need to have your CAT 3 (minus) inspection done by the 11th of October
  18. A word of caution around qualitative risk scoring systems, like the probability consequence model above. Watch for the high consequence/low probability events as under some scoring systems they are not given much weight due to the low probability. If it does happen, its a catastrophe so its worth giving them due regard. I might be telling people here to suck eggs, apologies if I am but it bears repeating.
  19. A couple of old dinosaurs chatting over a drink at the bar, well, they could pull the “ the world is too pc “ line.. But this was said by the Commodore of the club, while speaking in his capacity as the Commodore. He should know better, and if he doesn’t, he probably shouldn’t be the commodore
  20. Not racing but still a nice sail a the weekend http://youtu.be/fAROoHPwTnY
