Few boats removed from Putiki Bay , Waiheke by Harbourmaster the other week - a fraction of the number that should have gone but such a major logistically ....

Did they get rid of wreck in Putiki or just the big orange buoy that was marking it?

  2. National water monitoring is carried out by Land, Water, Air Aotearoa (LAWA) during the swimming months Nov - March. They appear to monitor weekly and after rain events.

The data spreadsheet showing actual counts is on https://lawa.org.nz

There is enough data to be able to model and predict results.

  3. Arbitare has withdrawn but going to sail with the fleet down the West Coast. They will decide dependent on weather whether they go to Waikawa or home port of Wellington.

SSANZ have let them keep the YB tracker so they will be visible on the tracker.

  4. Go fuel website clearly states:

Bank Card Pre-authorisation - Transactions at marine payment terminals are all pre-authorised by your card provider. They (not GOfuel) might place a "hold" of $1500 on your account prior to dispensing your fuel. For most transactions, the hold is released immediately after completion, however some banks take longer (3-7 days) to release the hold.

To prevent this, sign up for a "NO FEES" GOfuel fuel card. You will also receive a discount on every transaction. Sign-up now.

Yeah I saw those stories. But looks like someone else is perhaps living on it out there?

He has mates/crew living on it. There is usually a tender tied up to it. It anchored up in Issy just before he went to prison. Prior to that it spent months anchored off Karaka at the mouth of the Tamaki river. It was a pain as in certain winds it used to obscure the Barber's Pole.

I get tempted to ring DoC and say I saw a rat jump off it and swim to Motutapu.

Am running a mastervolt external reg.

The direct replacement 120amp alt has a single belt, will give it ago. Not opposed to upgrading pulleys but won't do it if I don't have to.

Biggest worry was going from 55amps to 120amps if there was any consequences.

You will need to get the new alternator modified to work with your external regulator.

All the recent Yanmar marine engines appear to be shipped with 120A Valeo alternators, even the 3ym20 I replaced my 2gm20 with. It was set up with a serpentine belt and I utilised the belt load manager in my Balmar mc-614 reg to drop the max charging current to 90A.

  7. The factory supplied battery with the t1000-basic is a 24v 22Ah agm battery. The built-in battery charger is a 24v 5A agm charger. Agm batteries require charging at a rate of 0.2 - 0.3C which for a 20Ah battery is 4-6 amps.

Using a larger capacity battery will extend the usage time of the tug but will also increase the charging time. Two things kill or as IT puts it murder agm batteries. First is taking the battery below 50% depth of discharge which for 12v batteries is around 12.06v and 24.12v for 24v batteries.

The second thing that kills agm batteries is leaving them in a Partial State of Charge (PSoC). Agm batteries need to be very regularly charged fully i.e to 100% SoC.

I would stick with the specs of the supplied battery i.e 24v 20Ah and ensure that when the tug is not in use it is plugged in and charging.

Yes the pontoon at Kennedy Pt worked well, thanks. Also an easy pickup / drop off point for taxis. It blew a bit whilst we were ashore so I kept an eye on AIS in case I saw Fogg moving. But the holding seemed quite good there esp with 50m of 12mm chain out in 3m of water.

You weren't the noisy boat on saturday night were you?  the one with the loud stereo with thumping bass.

We always anchor on the eastern side of Putiki. It is a much more pleasant outlook than looking at the ferries.

Kind of staggers me a bit - this clumsy stuff going on.

It looked like many of the guys yesterday afternoon were like star struck schoolboys on their 1st rodeo. Bertarelli (I think) was given the honour of handing out the medals and pretty rudely it seemed a lot of the ETNZ people (Dalton included) just steamed past as if he weren't there and then kinda took the medal as an afterthought. Maybe they were caught up in the moment but if not,  its either axes being ground or they're just plain rude.

I think they have to behave better than this, and now the squaddie are bumbling their way around too.

    Rant concluded.

The presenters of the Americas Cup and medals were Peter Montgomery and Bruno Troublé. The format for the medal presentation was that the team members names were called and they filed past the stage, put their hand in a box to grab a medal and move off.

looking windy and maybe wet, wouldn't want to see pete fall off the back during the cross

TNZ crew all cross in front of the mast. The helming position and mainsail trim are in front of the grinders.

what happened to the guys that made these?  in East Tamaki,

Unfortunately Fred Andrews  passed away a few years ago and the business is now owned by someone else. When I got my Prince refurbished by Fred 10+ years ago it came back like new with new burners, polished etc. It wasn't cheap but cheaper than buying a new marine stove. Fred said at the time he was running out of parts to do refurbs.
