My brother in law hugh In Wellington has zingara lotus 9.2 He sailed it from auck to Wellington I met him in Wellington and sailed it up the mana that boat has sailed cook straight many times and mana area , he's planing a sounds cruise , perfect cruising interior , head room through out , big quarter berths , saloon ample room , galley is fine , it's never had pox or issues with the bottom , well built factory boats . But they seem to be quite expensive , and differ in condition , so check out several till you find one that has had good maintainance and care , but get it checked out

Well gona say floor boards have been traditionally loose in case of leek and to get to the leek quickly but rudder is different you need a rudder.
-
Why would you come back with a floating floor board , wouldn't you fix it at sea and keep going
-
Cmp why don't you forget about owning a boat at this time and get crewing on one and the answers will come in time , if you start adding up figures and sceneros at this time you will be in many minds of will I or won't I , go sailing and see if it's for you this is not a hobby it's a way of life no one person can teach you there will be many over time , if you worry about sails , masts , keels , good and bad boats fees costs you will end up in a caravan , remember it's like a nice woman , if she looks good she will sail good , and hopefully if you have one cooks a good pork roast on a 30 deg

Nothing wrong with ply wood , Spencer was only one guy who promoted ply. ,most boats from the 70s 80s on were ply , I have been off shore three time in boats built of ply ,that inspector knows nothing of good ply construction , you could challenge him publicly , ply is still being used , there is a boat at the wade now 60 years old ply and never glassed below the water line still sound ,

It's really up to the skipper to see that his boat is up to a standard befor he leaves with the right gear on it for his crew if there is a prob BUT some cheat and never get caught out , then there the other who do ,,once again good old New Zealand has these blue coats strutting around with a compliance forms who have made themselves an industry with a charge with no responsibility or come back after you leave But there are some boats I have seen that I would never go to sea , you just don't know what you are going to come up against .some charter boats I have seen over seas are shocking in
