    Impala

I remember a nice boat called impala , a fife 36 sailed out here in the 60 s , I used to dribble over it till 92 when I saw it in okahu bay looking sad. Then it dissapared ,till I herd its name a couple of years ago in haruru falls up north on a cradle looking worst ever , but I here the other day she's found a family that cares and it's all on for impala once again , solid teak , well built yacht , would like to know more of the rebuild ,
  4. Try , cut jib flush the mast no over hang , then roach the main , fully batterened , loose footed , and tension the battons to form some shape firm , and you will fond the helm soft in all weathers ,and it frees up the slot and she sails much better , ,so full hight jib , flush ish at the mast ,works for me ,
  5. I have a brass etching that was presented to Blake by Elaine dunane many years ago hanging in my shed , I brought it in a hauraki corner second hand store
  6. I only get the life jackets out in fowl weather , but I always have a inflatable collar in the cockpit when I go up on for deck they are to much of a hindrance operating the boat , but if you keep in mind that I think your be ok on long trips alone I have the collar on . Yes we all could go over the side ,any time , but we don't like blue coat weekend worriers dictating to us
  7. My way , 17 years ago I did my decks on timber yacht wich need doing again now. My old fathers method was and works , sand to scuff all areas. Undercote , then use builders bog. Car bog type , quick drying , pink stuff , and fill the entire deck fill every scratch and mark , an hour later sand with 100 grit , orbital or hand it's not hard , then another two cotes of under cote , the paint soaked through the bog solidifying it for the top cote , then sand smooth , mask out the gloss boarders paint them with top lac , two cotes , then I use Tredgrip. With rubber granules In the paint , it l

    New prop

Chrisc no 3600 rpm is a guide my new engine with.a 16x9 three blades Volvo prop only gets 3400 and that's close , it's handy to be a little over pitched on MY VIEW for it's a little quicker off the mark , more power responsive manuvering in marinas etc if you ever get to full rpm your putting everything under strain , I can do 8 kts flat out , 6.5 all day at around 2600 rpm into Most wind and fuel is nothing , with a beta 20 three cylinder ,I don't know if this is the same with a launch etc

  15. Ok I have 80 mtrs of 15. Mill rode ,and 15. Mts of 8 mill chain , measured on Sunday , cleaned the locker up , as good as the day I built it 20 years ago so I could go 60 mtrs rode , and some more chain say 25 mtrs what you think , the chain stows small to the rope and if it heaped up for some silly reason would not amount to any problem in the locker being wide ,what you think
  16. Thankyou I am in holiday mode pondering , measuring , Am going to lessen the rode first and organise th locker ,and may come see you , Alls good grant
  17. Well I see it , the wind was from the west , here. NNW sw and blowing hard over those times , so does that mean with a broken rudder on a cat that would sail on one rudder you would head into the wind and sail to Aussie , or turn and run for shore , in my view he only broke the law here buy not clearing customs here. ,remember they had no passports with them , they had to be sent on. So the arthoritys there a light handed on them to let them sail after repares to do customs else where , odd , the little boat was a hearty thing to stay together , most of thoes warram 21s are roped together fr
  18. Windmark winches. I spoke to the agent tonight. Not being a knocker , I came away from the conversation very impressed ,it's not the dollar as I don't care what it costs , it's a winch that fits the boat that what I want , first of all compared to the other models , these are smaller in dimension, less down in the locker , and small two turn capstan on the top is all you want , chain below , same weight as the maxwell who is bigger. Odd ,, the feature of using the capstan separate to the chain capstan is food for thought , hight is lower and others , and change out of $2000 bucks is a plu

    Deck winch

Ok burning up carbs tonight Looking at anchor locker sizes to accomodate anchor winched , I stumbled accross a theory very simple , a cylindrical tube 450 x 800 that's all that is needed will take most warps and chain easy fitted up to the deck locker lid , comments please

    Deck winch

Ok today was winch dedicated, measured the locker . Needs modification to achieve 300 mills above the stowed rode. Full width of hull and is 600 for and aft and 400 deep . Needs to be deeper , ok can do , but I see there is drum winches around that are electric that will fit , has any of you had experence with these , drum winches , one of these will fit they are 400 round 500 wide handle up to 15 mill rode and chain and a 100 mtrs and 700 llb load ,
