  1. It's still mucking about with Boats mate. Better than being at Home Mowing the lawns. Besides, no much wind today.
  2. Not sure I am achieving a darn thing actually. Every weekend, I go about fixing the exaust on the genset to have another problem occur. I finally got my new SST lift box/muffler finished and fitted today. Started the genny up and she was sweet. Great water flow, real quite, real pleased. Went about having a tidy up while the thing was running and the charger was doing a Equalize. Then I heard a slight chuffy noise in the exhaust. Oh now what. Lifted the hatch, sure enough exhaust fumes. Shut it down, got back down there to find the exhaust had now broken at a weld on another piece of pipe moun
  3. Kind of merged two long weekends together. Shanson and Team Wheels headed out last Weekend and stayed in various bays. Resulted in circumnavigating Waiheke. Ultimate aim was G Barrier, but the lovely 15kts forecast ended in being nought and a damn hot day with glass like sea. Not willing to motor all the way over there and ended up catching some wind to Coromandle. Tried out a few nice anchorages and this morning we headed back towards Waiheke. Just dropped the pick in Chamberlains bay on the end of Ponui Isl. Lovely. No wind and dang it's hot again.
  4. Squid, that's a darn nice chookhouse. That's flasher than our RNZAF house. How much you asking for rent????
  5. Fitted an electric toilet to the aft cab ensuit. Poured some insulation under the freezer, with a slight mishap that now means the freezer is sitting 50mm higher than it used to and will have to add a 50mm trim to the seating to rais it above the freezer lid Oh well.
  6. Those ratchet spanners are not too expensive now. Or should I say, there are cheap ones as well as expensive available. To add to the list of wonder tools there is also a ring spanner that has the strangest of shaped ring jaws that tightens onto any nut in it's size range. No not self locking. It has a fixed ring jaw and sits lose on the nut, but as you bring it round, the shape of the jaw ends up cominmg against the flat of the nut. And of course, the angle drive, so you can get at a bolt/nut in some tight out of the way place.
  7. Ouch! That is just wrong eh. So what happened? IB, what broke down?
  8. Well I have just ticked off Weekend number 4 of what I was thinking would be a one weekend project of installing my genset. Hopefully next weekend I will have it finished, but i have been saying that for the last three now.
  9. You best upgrade your wiring before you cause a fire. Plus that is why you are only getting 380W. The rest is going into the wire. Instead of a fuse, get a Circuit breaker. A fuse is a waste of power also. It is very unlikely you are desulphating, even though they say it does, but keeping the batteries fully charged certainly stops sulphation. Equalisation charging is the most important thing you can do for your batteries, next to keeping them fully charged, and the solar reg may not have that feature. When in the Marina, you need to do that once a month if you can.
  10. Bought and inserted some Sound insulation around the Genset and lowered it into it's frame in the engine room. Next week will be connecting it all up hopefully. Yesterday I helped rescue a Lady in distress. She couldn't start her outboard and then tried rowing against the current and ended up in the Mud.
  11. Good to hear you were doing something Squid. i was thinking about you probably sitting in that darn office as I was sailing across your side of the Peninsula.
  12. Friday we managed tio get 80Kg of old Genny off and 105Kg of new genny back onto the boat. We were going to head out to meet Shanson, but ran out ot time, so left early Saturday morning. Arrived at Motahei to find Shanson and crew at Anchor needing a new Fuel filter. A slight oops with a fuel valve meant an old disused tank foulded the filter. New filter, bled system and off we went. A good 18kts gave us a fantastic sail across to Maharangi. Last night we watched the nail biter of a game and this morning we motored home. Fantastic time.
  13. Well, like most Kiwi blokes at a BBQ, I could give lots of suggetions.
  14. Awe mate, when is that going to need testing??
  15. Just got in at 1.45PM. Missed Bathurst start, darn. Oh well. Removed the old genset, measured up for new frame for new genny. Never simple is it. Will Have to reroute the main tanks Balancing fuel lines and it is going to be a tight squeeze but it should go in OK. Fitted new Raw water strainer and found I was short one adaptor. Made a new mounting bracket for the pump and now it is fitted in a different orientation to get rid of stupid bends and impossible to get at bolts.
  16. I will take your word re the sails. But that may not help with pointing. However, what angle you getting???
  17. Wait!!! New boat purchasing comes with an extra cost on Crew. Essay required. You need to post a new thread in Marine Talk. Key notes are to include, Boat. (Pictures are worth bonus points) Story of trip.
  18. Saturday....Worked on Bilge pumping system and think I have all that sorted at last. Got old genset ready to remove. Sunday...couldn't be bothered going out to the boat in the rain. The only down point of the boat on a swing mooring.
  19. long as spelling is the only mistake you make, I would say that was a good achievement.
  20. As long as you are having Fun J. That's all that counts really.
  21. Will you be handing out freebies AA I keep being told to wash the Car, but I figure on two points. One, the Dirt is protecting the Paint from UV and two, it gets washed regularly in Auckland when it rains. Looking pretty grey out there now. Wondering why on earth we didn't go get the boat this weekend. Really don't care that it's a bit lame out there, we just want the boat up here now. Next weekend is not looking great again. Yesterday I fixed the Lawn Mower, so as Dawn could mow the Lawns. Then we went for a good long walk, first of the season. Really got to work hard this y
  22. Interesting SM. As you will be well aware, there are other versions of treatment devices out there. Lectrasan/Purasan etc. The Lectrasan had one major disadvantage in that it was too complex for it's own good. So reliability becomes and issue. Although in a real sense, for the environment it was in and the job it was doing, it could be said it was reliable, but fgor the cruising yachty, it was not and it is expensive for the cruiser to upkeep. I guess that is why you are looking at 50ft/Charter business.
