  1. You best upgrade your wiring before you cause a fire. Plus that is why you are only getting 380W. The rest is going into the wire. Instead of a fuse, get a Circuit breaker. A fuse is a waste of power also. It is very unlikely you are desulphating, even though they say it does, but keeping the batteries fully charged certainly stops sulphation. Equalisation charging is the most important thing you can do for your batteries, next to keeping them fully charged, and the solar reg may not have that feature. When in the Marina, you need to do that once a month if you can.
  2. Bought and inserted some Sound insulation around the Genset and lowered it into it's frame in the engine room. Next week will be connecting it all up hopefully. Yesterday I helped rescue a Lady in distress. She couldn't start her outboard and then tried rowing against the current and ended up in the Mud.
  3. Good to hear you were doing something Squid. i was thinking about you probably sitting in that darn office as I was sailing across your side of the Peninsula.
  4. Friday we managed tio get 80Kg of old Genny off and 105Kg of new genny back onto the boat. We were going to head out to meet Shanson, but ran out ot time, so left early Saturday morning. Arrived at Motahei to find Shanson and crew at Anchor needing a new Fuel filter. A slight oops with a fuel valve meant an old disused tank foulded the filter. New filter, bled system and off we went. A good 18kts gave us a fantastic sail across to Maharangi. Last night we watched the nail biter of a game and this morning we motored home. Fantastic time.
  5. Well, like most Kiwi blokes at a BBQ, I could give lots of suggetions.
  6. Awe mate, when is that going to need testing??
  7. Just got in at 1.45PM. Missed Bathurst start, darn. Oh well. Removed the old genset, measured up for new frame for new genny. Never simple is it. Will Have to reroute the main tanks Balancing fuel lines and it is going to be a tight squeeze but it should go in OK. Fitted new Raw water strainer and found I was short one adaptor. Made a new mounting bracket for the pump and now it is fitted in a different orientation to get rid of stupid bends and impossible to get at bolts.
  8. I will take your word re the sails. But that may not help with pointing. However, what angle you getting???
  9. Wait!!! New boat purchasing comes with an extra cost on Crew. Essay required. You need to post a new thread in Marine Talk. Key notes are to include, Boat. (Pictures are worth bonus points) Story of trip.
  10. Saturday....Worked on Bilge pumping system and think I have all that sorted at last. Got old genset ready to remove. Sunday...couldn't be bothered going out to the boat in the rain. The only down point of the boat on a swing mooring.
  11. long as spelling is the only mistake you make, I would say that was a good achievement.
  12. As long as you are having Fun J. That's all that counts really.
  13. Will you be handing out freebies AA I keep being told to wash the Car, but I figure on two points. One, the Dirt is protecting the Paint from UV and two, it gets washed regularly in Auckland when it rains. Looking pretty grey out there now. Wondering why on earth we didn't go get the boat this weekend. Really don't care that it's a bit lame out there, we just want the boat up here now. Next weekend is not looking great again. Yesterday I fixed the Lawn Mower, so as Dawn could mow the Lawns. Then we went for a good long walk, first of the season. Really got to work hard this y
  14. Interesting SM. As you will be well aware, there are other versions of treatment devices out there. Lectrasan/Purasan etc. The Lectrasan had one major disadvantage in that it was too complex for it's own good. So reliability becomes and issue. Although in a real sense, for the environment it was in and the job it was doing, it could be said it was reliable, but fgor the cruising yachty, it was not and it is expensive for the cruiser to upkeep. I guess that is why you are looking at 50ft/Charter business.
  15. I have been taking a surf around the net and it seems that some parts of the Us have banned them. Mostly on several fresh water lakes. And the State of California has supposedly banned everything and anything that has a 2 stroke, but I don't know how that's working out for them, because a lot of big groups, like Bikers are really fighting hard and being very defient. I found this from the EU and as you said, it seems just those that don;t meet the standard. The EPA in the USA are apparently going to be getting even tougher, but doing it stages.
  16. That's interesting Rigger, because I had also read that 2stroke was banned for much of the rest of the world. Interesting if it hasn't.
  17. And what kind of power draw are we talking Southernman? This sounds most interesting. I think eventually NZ will follow the US laws in regards to effluent holding, treatment and disposal. But I guess a few Councils need to get their act sorted before it could be forced on boaters. Nah hang, about who am I kiddin.
  18. Well if they have cleaned their act up, that is great. But it used to be a massive problem. One of the worst affected was Alaska where the liners would go up to the Glaciers. The cold water meant that bacteria did npt break the efluent down very quickly and several ships a week were going into those places. There were massive complaints about it and when it hit the Headlines, the questions were raised and suggestions made that maybe the ships should not be allowed in the Soth Island Fijords. Mabe it was because of this that treatment and disposal has been looked at.
  19. Depends on what you are feeding them with squid. It is mainly because nothing eats vegie scraps. Have you noticed that not even Seagulls or ducks eat the stuff. Fish certainly don't, so it just floats around out there till it eventually breaks down, but that is even quite slow. We try and macerate as much as we can, then it breks down fairly quickly.
  20. I don't know about better than food going in.I ain't going to try and let you know anyway. Yeah there are three(?) levels as I remember it. Although I stand for correction if someone is clearer on this. Type 1, 2 & 3. Type 1 being fully treated. Type 3 being untreated. But some places will have a complete no discharge Zone, no matter how good the treatment.
  21. Oh but here is a weird rule though. Did you guys know you are not alowed to dump your vegitable waste over the side? You have to cut it to small pieces and it must only be discharged over the side when you are at least 3Nm from shore. So you can not legally discharge your vegie scraps over the side at a mooring or anchor in any bay.Who is going to go 3Nm offshore just to dump there vegie scraps??
  22. Then maybe it's a good idea I can hold 2500ltrs of effluent. Err.....the Boat can hold 2500ltrs of it that is. Some my say I can sure discharge a lot of it when I talk, but at least it isn't 2500ltrs. I have often wondered how the Mederteranian is so clear with so many poor countries around it's edges that must be dumping humungous volumes of stuff, including probably far worse than just crap, into that clear water. Yet it remains so clear. All the smaller boats aside, the crusie liners are the biggest culprits. I don't know why they don't have stricter rules. They come into some
  23. I tell, she seems to have so much command that girl. And it always seems to be early morning. KM!!! NO!!!! don't come up with that Line. yeah I know what ya thinking.
