    Tri talk

I would suggest speaking with Laurie and getting the 8.5 Lucifer as the racing is so much closer than the open fleet. http://www.blairboats.com/demon-85.html She's a really good boat and one of the top 8.5's.
  2. Thanks Wheels - "Black Rot" I didn't realise that, I assumed that as long as then ends were good it wouldn't make a lot of difference.
  3. Agreed only I am not up to that 2/3 day exercise yet!!
  4. One for Wheels - I hope! I tried the vinegar/salt wash and bicarb rinse yesterday on some wires that were badly tarnished. It worked really well on the positive which came up clean but the negative was still badly tarnished. Is my only option to run a positive current down the negative line and have a negative in the vinegar/salt bath? I have tried other stuff like Silver Dip with little success. Flux also doesn't cut the mustard.
  5. "surface tension of water and ..." Good point, maybe it's not working as we assume it should be. Salt Away - as in salt washed away easier?!
  6. Interesting... I have been trying to find out what was in this stuff for ages! Water seems to be the best thing to disolve salt. Would the Sulfamic acid remove some of the mineral deposits?
  7. Do we need to carry a dinghy for this race? Sailing Instructions, section 4 covers it in the NOR only there is no section 4 of the SI's --- if that is the link to the SI's.
  8. Nothing on the website yet .... it would be interesting to get an update. https://www.topyacht.com.au/protests/protests_prnt.php?ev=107.107.107.1.574
  9. I use motorcycle chain oil - spray type, the pawls don't stick and the grease stays put. Lasts for years too!
  10. Great work RNZYS! Awesome time.
  11. Did the dinghy slow you down a bit!! Lookin' good.

I wouldn't. I like to be able to swim out of a situation - if you have been caught under a boat you'll understand why.

"So is it time for a law change?" No thank-you
  14. Nice! Just emailed him the link.
  15. Feedback was more to do with crew not wanting to sail up wind for 24 hours + Also the wind for the return trip! The guys that finished out side of the time limit all had their time taken and even had a prise in their own "division". Last boat was an Elliott 770 - finished in just under 27 hours
  16. I guess that you don't realise that the Coastal is put on by a small bunch of volunteers without no budget to use YellowBrick trackers, run flash web sites etc. Check out the cost for YB! https://www.ybtracking.com/shop-product-detail?productId=1 The race is for the racers and we do our best for those not out on the water.
  17. "What's the plan for the future of the race? Grow the participation to encourage more involvement from average family cruiser racers" Orakei Yacht Sales did a big push a few years ago and the lack of interest was stunning.
  18. Come on down to Westhaven and take a look at the various 8.5's - we all have slightly different set-ups and ideas on what works. Freedom looks well set-up and is on VWX currently too.
  19. It's all a bit loose right now, it's not Cat 3 just 4+ Dinghy etc. Once we get an idea of numbers we can sort out divs - GBE's obviously have their own division and the GBE shield.
  20. Yea sorry, we have had an issue with the site move to a larger server for the Coastal - I have made the updates but they have not been released yet.
  21. We now have a date for the Barrier Race! http://www.multihull.org.nz/great-barrier-express-race/
  22. I'll be on your team Bill! We must get a Mouthie BBQ sorted this year too... it's been far too long!
  23. I have a couple of Pop Up tents for between the bows - they work great. http://www.trademe.co.nz/sports/camping-outdoors/tents/3-4-person-tents/auction-960064892.htm Would like to do more sailing around Kawau area ... time is the issue and space in the racing calendar.
