After struggling with pushing Deeds along in strong winds I changed to the smaller of the 2 High Thrust props available for the 8hp Yam. I can now motor in 30 knots which is really nice.

I think you'll find that you are allowed to use autopilot ... the current Two Handed Division can. 7.5 Two Handed Division A yacht sailed by two people. In the division, the use of self-steering devices whether mechanical, electrical or otherwise is permitted.

I think Tim hit the nail on the head with the old Ford Sierra analogy. The designs are now just outdated and the new plastic fantastics are built like crap and will probably fall apart in 10 years but the designs are A1.

Kevin, the Westhaven marina manager cleared this all up at the Forum a few weeks back. From what I recall Westhaven been advised on the law and how it applies. The current push is an application of current law. Pun intended! We can either unplug, abide by the law or lobby to get the law changed. Seems fair enough to me.
