  1. True true -I well recall some brawling in the squadron amongst the Patiki crews after match racing, now thank goodness the average age has radically increased and we are likely to see them cruising and fun racing with smiles and beers at Kawau on Labour weekend ....
  2. To a degree similar here, with a small number of entrants doing most of the racing, when it takes a syndicate of 50 somethings to be able to afford to maintain and race an 88 at Westhaven you can see where we are going...
  3. I for one would not agree with that , having had a reasonably small following sea completely overwhelm an H , and with the cockpit full you feel like a sitting duck , they have no bouyancy aft so dont lift and take off like a typical later design or Kiwi boat . Having said that both designs have successfully completed circumnavigations...
  4. The crucial clauses that differ from the standard NZ yacht brokers ones in the Chat GP are the survey and seatrial ones which really are important to understand for both parties.
  5. Speaking of ChatGPT and AI -there is a 'broker' in Whangarei who is using it to write his ads , worrying if a newby thought this person had knowledge, but provides a smile for the rest of us over our morning cuppa.

What we had this week was a choreographed press release -to try and stimulate interest, the devil as always is in the details, now there is a short wait of about 25 days to see if there are any entries -other than Ben and Italy

Be interesting to see if the Italians can have the sight up and running and finished in 20 months.. All the other changes had to happen or Grant and Matteo would have been left sitting on their own ....
  10. Looked like a good sized fleet heading out..

Not sure about the colour but she did look frisky between Devonport and Bean Rock mark last night
  12. This is a fairly recent development from customs -as I know of many who have purchased kiwi built (wooden) boats offshore and returned them to NZ in the past without paying import duty/gst . No I will not be naming them .
  13. Even if the yacht was never 'exported just sailed off on a cruise' owned by kiwis when left and owned by kiwis on return? I find that hard to believe the boat is NZ registered .
  14. Thats confusing , so if the boat was built here and paid gst etc then later sailed offshore for a year or so then I purchased it overseas and sailed her home again -you are saying that I as a NZ citizen am up for duty again??? Not my understanding of the rule.

  21. Ah the safer boating forum .... nameless people based in Wellington ?
  22. Water Safety NZ , they were making good progress with education and such programmes -then the govt reduced funding and here we are
  23. This has been the case in the Waikato for some time, I have stood up in my wooden dinghy and paddle with one oar -therefore a traditional SUP.
  24. Strainer between inlet and raw water pump and change the impeller every year or so seems to work.
