  1. What time is the start?
  2. Though on the average cruising yacht space is at a premium and you are buying an expensive battery bank, an expensive proper marine genset (diesel) an electric motor and all the installation and room requirements that entails . Not entirely sure how a genset running through batteries to power an electric motor is more efficient than a diesel through a gearbox to shaft?. Then of course what happens to the large battery bank when it is had it. I have been involved in some of this stuff, lecky powered gunboats with hydro generation through Gori prop. Repowering existing cruising Cats with diese
  3. Absolutely right BK, fine for a Lake boat but for NZ coastal cruising and further afield not so much.
  4. The sea will do what it wants in its own time, regardless of mans efforts.
  5. The Oceanvolt went well with 888 till it was REALLY needed.
  6. Looks a suspicious amount of solar -maybe they are hoping to power her with lecky -anyone got a towrope??
  7. Not convinced that is potable.....
  8. There seems to be confusion about its name, was christened Bluebottle in Aussie -perhaps our young Navy ratings dont realise the significance of that name. All together now "Hes fallin in the water"
  9. The subject of this post was sighted in a Milford hostelry last evening at high tide -so obviously hoping that someone else will take responsibility for his lack of seamanship...
  10. He has been towed out of Hobsonville and Westhaven recently, was offered a tow off Mairangi last week by well meaning boaties, has no working engine or anchor, (the anchor dangling from the bow came from the surf club). He has a long history -the coastguard know him well. Has been trespassed by the police from Milford cruising club and its property for threatening behaviour in the past. Wrecked his last boat on passage reef -luckily with no loss of life for his innocent crew.
  11. Correct it is for training purposes
  12. Nice toy -it will be interesting how long it lasts, I can show you where to see a number of recent failed NZDF projects lie (of the marine persuasion) still at least with those the money was wasted in NZ with NZ taxpayers...
  13. I use one of them in my Blue Seas panel-works a treat after initially programming with new batteries.
  14. Rebuilt my 3YM30AE raw water pump just before Christmas after noticing a drip , bit of a faff with such a small unit but after looking on line they only seem to all do 400 hours which is what mine had done since new, yes I replace the impeller each year when I do the oil change.
  15. If they are still using the figaro sniffers-I dont have much confidence as we used to test them for a Government department and had a roughly 50% fail rate on the gas detectors ☠️
  16. They need to get over it , all the fan worm has disappeared from my Westhaven pier?
  17. Thought she must be heading back to Aussie when I saw all the fuel stacked aft, sure must have gone up quick, I wonder what type of Batteries?
  18. When speccing gensets for launches I always asked whether they were looking at an induction hob, if so we often had to double the size of generator just for that consumer-problem then was for the rest of the time the genset was not being loaded enough and you get all the problems with slobber and short engine life -they love to be at 80% normally.
  19. That 1104 is actually more like 6000kg , having sailed on her for a number of years, but yes quite effective in a blow on the wind as we proved in the mostly light one ton cup revival .

And now there is a New Elliott 30' by Dave Wade -looks sharp as seen on Regatta day.
  21. Stray cats sound good to me if you dont use them
  22. And 12 boats racing in the classic launch race -by far the best viewing on the harbour , straight after the tug and workboat race. Might have to enter again next year ....
  23. The serious classics race to Mahurangi Friday evening , do the regatta and social Saturday, race back to town Sunday and race the Auckland Regatta Monday. Having done that numerous times , many of us would rather cruise over to the islands or Kawau for Sunday -or this year have a pleasant run home as the forecast looked a little perky for Monday.
  24. Most of the classics -yachts and launches and some owners 😄were at Mahurangi as always for the launch parade and the racing but mainly the dance -great as usual, but instead of doing the passage race home slid DDW home on Sunday -very relaxing. Then went to watch the Tug boat and launch racing off Westhaven on regatta day, I too recall the thousands lining the Waterfront, Bastion Point and North Head back in the day-with Two boats (yes thats right) in the A division it seems those days are gone. The modern classics had a few more but the keeler racing was miserable , and they didnt even
