  1. yes watching last years island race start I was struck by how few normal Dad and Mum Kiwi boats were going, there is no place for them amongst the big boat race fleet anymore, never mind how time poor we all are, even the racey small boats were populated by sailmakers and boatbuilders who kinda had to be there.

    New prop

Without dancing all around the issue again, as all angles seem to have been discussed, if you can reach rated RPM ie 3600 with a clean bottom then the box will not be overloaded . And more important you will not be running in lug mode, thus allowing full horsepower to be available if ever required and avoiding damage to the engine (premature carbonning of exhaust elbow etc etc.) And the prop will run quieter with more tip clearance 15% was always rule of thumb and what classification agencies use as absolute minimum, however on a lot of yachts we sneak it down to nearer 10% depending on hull
  3. Open ocean should be the cheapest and IT is right about the electric side, best quality seem to be the Parker Village Marine with their own membranes and machined out of billet titanium components.
  4. Yes agree about good value, have done canals in the UK from Chester and in and out of Wales great fun. Two years ago did a week on the Norfolk Broads once again great value with travel and accomodation looked after. Pays to research who you are chartering off though, both times we felt very lucky when looking at some of the other boats. Now investigating the French canals for this year...
  5. motorbike has a better understanding of this one than some here as do I, the damage has been done
  6. Row a wooden dinghy like me! Or use a Torqeedo outboard
  7. There seems to be a common lack of understanding about wakes, a rather large boy and his girlfriend? went close past me in his RIB whilst we were anchored in Smelting House sunday evening , they were at maximum displacement speed ie creating the biggest wake possible , he saw me shaking my head so when returning from the club came past at maximum speed (planing) to try and annoy me - causing no wake at all
  8. It appears that Bogan has hit the nail on the head....
  9. One wonders what is the name of the complainants boat.......
  10. Yes XXXX does not do dangerous things in my experience, he was racing back to Auckland on Sunday I watched him start.
  11. Something wrong with this post, not sure that it should be left up......
  12. Over 2 1/2 hours by my watch, certainly liked your deck lighting.

    New prop

yes I would be looking for 6 knots ish at 3000 and being able to get near 3600 as she sinks into her own hole going a little quicker (gives you reserve for weather conditions)

Put MAXwax on available in a spraycan at most good chandlers - I got a year out of it, not quite propspeed but for your situation ideal. And yes you should reach maximum 3600 with all things being right - clean bottom etc etc. We require that to sign off new engines as the boats always get heavier bottom fouling etc and you dont want to put a modern small diesel into lug. Depending on the engine an older one can have a little leeway.
  16. Anode set for Yanmar saildrive in Nelson - Nick at Aimex he is the dealer
  17. The question of course is why try to shift her while still on the bottom firmly, ning nongs
  18. Its the one with the loose interior grid liner
  19. There wasnt that much breeze at that time on Saturday I was down there in the sweltering heat.
  20. There are a few at Milford who think its alright to dry out with the boat bolt upright or slightly leaning away from the piles too. Never could understand it when a couple of buckets of water on the gunwhale will ensure a safe degree of lean in even if you cant be there when she settles to the ground. Seen a number tip at Westhaven over the years..
  21. Really begging for some of the homeless to occupy (with their fishing lines) !
  22. All the big boats and some local ones use rigpro at westhaven all set up for craning in and out in fact they are doing it right now.
