That is one cool boat, just the sort of modern but practical design suited to NZ sailing.

Well the Champosa put on a good show for us with everyone on North Head saying dont go there as they ran onto Narrow Neck beach then started the engine to try and back off whilst the sails were still sheeted in! I guess that means they are out or joining the cruising rally lol.

Strange how ETNZ charged us (the taxpayer ) for the initial design of the first vessel -then sold it on to Prada and Stars and Stripes, did we get a refund?

What a shame the whole thing isnt in TP52 class yachts-just imagine the field and number of countries entered and quality of real tactical yacht racing, with the ability to build front line yachts still here just. Mind you harder to defend.

Come on you classic dinghy sailors that we see at Mahu each year lets enter and not let the foiling youf have all the fun, show them that gentlemen can sail with decorum in tiny boats, options to get back to Westhaven in case of wild Souwester are available.

Milford cruising club is a good bet with the combination of cruising and shorter tidal races - all handicapped they will have fun and learn the inner gulf.

I have done just this the last two years , refuse to pay YNZ fee through five yacht clubs and nominated one. This of course creates a great deal of hassle for  the smaller clubs and I doubt that they have pursued it just pretended that I paid . However it is a point of principle and as I age more I note that the most fun regattas and events are organised outside YNZ !

Be Aware that the prevailing breeze at the entrance has a big bearing on Milford, half tide is not right as the sill moves depending on height not time. Quite often the sill will still be up then.
If you damage the sill the Mariners will send you the bill.
Please go for a good walk with the kids at dead low one day and you will be then armed with the knowledge.

Just last weekend I met a yachting friend who had been attacked by Happy Teeth in Westhaven, yes yes I hear the the girl saying she was just chewing his dinghy up but all the same he was lucky to scramble on to a finger as it went down under him. I repeat what I said three years ago, if a great white was cruising Westhaven how long would it have lasted? And if you dont want to tranquilise -then use a net and Kelly Tarlton truck to send to the West Coast

Funny how the Leopard seal advocate has gone very quiet about the shooting claim, saw Happy Teeth last night on the dock by Romanza looking very contented for a shot thing, the Herald should be made to retract their printed misinformation.

Very annoying that the seal advocate has stated as fact that her seal has been shot and the Herald printed the story as fact without one piece of checking, journalism in this country.......

Yes after listening to Giverny I was impressed by her growing knowledge of them , (there are at least 10 individuals resident around our coastline) she certainly knows a lot more than the DOC pair who spoke at Westhaven in 2016. Her feeling is that they are repopulating our coast and will continue with no one shooting or eating them now.

Well spotted Elly, they obviously forgot the very successful revisited in 2015, where some of us sailed with great cameraderie just like the old days, notably people strolling past the Volvo boats commenting -that cant be the real Rainbow 11 ? When we pointed out her neighbours -Waianiwa then the Farr and Lidgard one tonners they forgot the Volvo boats and came for a look.
It was also great to see Bruce Farr, Ron Holland, John Street, Peter Cornes etc get together after all this time. There were one or two old names on our boats too- Chris Bouzaid, Roy Dixon, Ken Fyfe, Rosco Guineven, Kumi Kelly, Ray Haslar the list goes on, Falconer the younger entertaining with a petrol powered blender in the Viaduct another good memory.
2016 is an invention of Boating NZ

Yes Frank that is the only way it will last, after first drying the hull thoroughly inside and out and splining her, glued up tight  you can skin them with one or more layers diagonal before glassing, we started this in the early eighties up north on a Falmouth Quay punt called Curlew that some of you may recall bailing her way here. Well after many years at the Falklands she is I believe in the Falmouth Maritime museum still tight as.

    They didnt.
It was liquidated to a point where the leaving partner was happy, then the remaining partner purchased the remaining stock off the liquidator and good luck to them in the future the trading environment is very tough out there even without Westhaven type rents...

Yes to be clear I was referring to multi skin glassed kiwi boats , and fish is right there is a big difference between a standard Bavaria and a Halberg Rassy just to pick one example.

MH  and MR the owner of Lanakai should both be commended for spending their funds with NZ boatbuilders -they didnt have to.
Having said that I cant say that I agree with either mans taste in ship styling, however if we all liked the same thing the world would be very boring and we would all be dressed as in Mao's China!
