  1. Yeah that kinda makes looking down the traveller redundant we tack through 70 degrees in flat water but that's a whole new ballgame
  2. I saw vixen turn around at the same time as they posted on their page that they had left the gulf. Asked if they were okay but no response and still nothing on their page 11 hours later
  3. Have all the good people at Squadron left? Like the Auckland Regatta shambles, a yacht club that has turned its back on sailing.
  4. Charmonet back in Westhaven. Thank good for the tracker because the Squadron efforts on this race is woeful. The dedicated Facebook page had a flurry of activity in July last year promoting boats that aren't sailing and nothing since November. The race webpage does nothing but direct you to the Facebook page for updates A sad indication of both the state of offshore NZ keelboat racing and the biggest club in NZ's inability to promote their biggest race in years. No wonder the cups gone to Spain
  5. Vixen out and Romanza didn't start by the look of it
  6. I would only call a general recall if I cannot identify the boats. If I can then no general recall whether it's 10% or 90% of the fleet. as far as notifying, yes if you can but in dinghies you can't. Flag goes up, comes down when last boat returns. In a fleet where the boats are required to carry vhfs then I would call the numbers once and answer queries blowing a general recall just because a large number are over just encourages them to push too hard
  7. Not getting much better for them off mercury bay
  8. Owner might want to check their lines
  9. Stuff-all interest in this years event other than the Piedys. We entered but off to do the Gulf Classic instead
  10. Can you blame them? Sub 35' multihulls in this country have an abysmal record when it comes to falling apart, capsizing or hitting something hard. Just this week another 2 trimarans have sh*t themselves racing. Take the mickey-mouse outfit. They will never pay a claim but at least you have something to wave at marinas. Think of it as a berthage surcharge
  11. Is this guy involved? https://www.stuff.co.nz/environment/126998828/man-was-reclaiming-part-of-tauranga-harbour-coast-to-make-a-park-for-his-family
  12. On the bright side, it can be returned to the owner in standard post
  13. Part of the marina is a public walkway so there are lots of dogs passing through as well as a few on boats. I haven't had an issue here but when we kept Sundreamer on X-pier Westhaven there was always dog-sh*t along the path. I could never figure out who's dog otherwise I would have thrown it in their cockpit for sure.
  14. I use them on the gennaker clew, never had one come off. Make my own, it's very therapeutic
  15. This at the end of the day, everything else can be sourced or delayed but a stuffed engine will end fun and relationships with the boat and/or significant others
  16. The cost of cleaning up, getting to the school, appropriate permits, foundations, and making it safe for children to climb over would be over $100k. That's not even lightweight journalism, that's just pathetic
  17. Yeah they do. We were in Parapara Bay Saturday night and there were two dogs being ferried ashore regularly to crap. One yapped for 45 minutes early Sunday morning before the owners in a Genesis (rafted up to a Wavecrusher, both Whitianga boats) took it ashore. I've a good mind to get some dog sh*t and flick it in their cockpits next time I walk past.
  18. Just over a week to this years event. Shame about the covid borders but looking forward to it. House booked, mates coming up from Wellington to compete. My birthday on Raceday so I suspect a few rums after if we aren't as shattered as we were last year.
  19. I saw this photo today and thought how well it captured the spirit of sailing these days out of the main centres. A scene repeated up and down the country, Opua, Kerikeri, Whangarei, Sandspit, Whitianga, Taupo, Tauranga, a bunch of mixed boats out having fun with mates. And it looks like the fleets are growing. I was talking to a mate the other day about changes happening in Auckland. How marine service industries are moving out of town. Issues are Cost of premises (sails and masts take a lot of space and that costs) Ever intrusion of housing into traditional marine precinct
  20. Yes we are looking at that with our youth training. Since distance can't be assured (coaching and assistance) it's likely to be fully vac'd only. Hoping for some guidance from YNZ which according to latest briefings will come in conjunction with SportNZ. Club keelboat racing is yet to be addressed. In that regard we are level 2 ATM and few restrictions or if there are, being ignored
  21. You will still need a topping lift. Even the best systems only support the boom temporarily. Without a topping lift your main sheet won't have anything to brace the boom against and it will swing all over the place
  22. Probably 1st or 2nd Saturday in September 2022 :-)
