  1. Yeah there's a few dodgy areas too. Will be replacing all the halyards as soon as Mr Bondage goes back to work. The orange one is new anyway but is just a short tail on 4mm dyneema I made up last year for the 3/4 kite snubber. Kite halyard is a nice size according to my crew though.
  2. Not while you keep running races in 30knots Seriously though the rig does look small but with the boat weighting 600hg all up including a 300kg bulb we've never begged for more sail. Although we are about to push the limit on mainsail size ...
  3. Another consideration is that I'm looking at running a heavy weather jib on an inner fore-stay so the spare turning sheave won't be wasted. We struggle in the SSANZ races with a fore-triangle 3m of a 7.5m boat. Our small jib just blows the bow around and going smaller again way out there won't be much better. Advice from designer and sailmaker is to bring it aft. There's the old topping lift exit which just needs a fore-stay tang above it and would be about right with a pad on the deck.
  4. Three halyards, main (black), headsail (blue) and snubber (orange) are small diameter although it doesn't look like it in the photo. The masthead (green) is bigger but even if the same as the others would rub plus the base sheaves are very small, non-rollers and collect all the grunge from the mast, so never turn all that well at the best of times.
  5. Thanks HT, I think I'll try the existing slot before I stuff something up.
  6. We have an unacceptable amount of friction on gennaker hoists and drops cause by the mast base. I'm looking at taking as many blocks and turns out of the system as I can and looking at an exit slot in the mast direct to a pivoting block with cam. There's a slot already but on the wrong side where the jib halyard tensioner is and also the wrong side for starboard hoists. Any tricks to cutting a slot in a carbon mast? I'm assuming 2 holes and a fine jigsaw but my experience with such things warns of feathering and cockups.
  7. Entries are open for the CBRE Auckland Regatta Pretty disappointing turnout last year but a great event and the party at RNZYS Saturday night was off the scale https://www.aucklandregatta.co.nz
  8. Entries are open for the 20th running of this awesome regatta https://bayofislandssailingweek.org.nz
  9. Results to date are up https://www.ssanz.co.nz/results/
  10. Short course elapsed times. Excludes cruising
  11. Overpaid, over sexed and over here. Hard to maintain morale in the trenches where a bunch of yanks are porking your girlfriends back home
  12. Deep purple is ready to go but my mainsail is at north's for a touchup. If they haven't started on it, I could use it as is. Otherwise I need a few days at level 2 or 3 first before level 2 racing
  13. Except you can read a tablet/iPhone with the light out so as not to disturb her indoors
  14. Take the pin out and lower the sail. When you lash the reef point down make sure you take a turn around the mast to stop it pulling out the track
  15. I doubt it. They didn't last year I have my boat but my mainsail is at North's for a tidy up
  16. Why couldn't you lower the sail any more? You may have to take out a slug if that's what holding the main to the mast
  17. ........and likely off
  18. Ahhh bugger, we were too far back to see by that point
  19. What were you on? Yeah the Rogue 2 went awesome upwind. I couldn't believe how they pulled away from a Kerr40
  20. Deep Purple's Race Report Watching the weather forecast every few minutes all week isn't going to change what happens. Breeze-on. Memories of last year NE pounding at the fore but at least this year South-West and calmer seas or so I we thought..... We launched at Bucklands Beach and timed our arrival at the race area to be just in time to start. Reefed main, #2 Jib (really need a #3 for these days. Safe start and hauled the fantastic #willissails fractional and good speed clearing clearing our fleet and across to mix it with the big guys. Crossed gybes a few times with the Rog
