  1. Changed

    Sydney Hobart

I note that Samurai jack has withdrawn with bow damage. One of our soloIQ sailors was part of the crew.
  2. A great start to the BJ Tyres series with Bucks and certainly the biggest fleet I've seen in the last few years. Not often we get such a light race at this time of the year though, but light it was with a strong outgoing tide.It was tricky at times with different parts of the course getting different breeze weights. The fleet separated a little after rounding Motuihe but then closed up on the way to North Leading. The converging breezes gave some hope at times. I tried to get a gennie going after Motuihe but then settled for a 0 which is a little more stable in the very light. The UNITEC carr
  3. By the way both divisions start at 1.00PM and there will be a prize giving at Bucks after the finish.
  4. BJ Tyres Single handed race next Sunday. This a great BBYC event so come and join the fun. The course is a quick sprint from the Motukorea Beacon around Motuihe, up to North Leading Buoy and back to finish. Sailors with IQ are doing it single handed this summer.
  5. Fantastic. We might get a multi division going.
  6. I understand the Gale Force is coming out to play so will need some big boys to play with.
  7. Cool Change will be there. Not willing to miss races at this early stage of the series. Don't forget the series flags and shirts. Could be something in it for those who remember. Predictwind is looking light and variable at the moment so will probably be blowing dogs off chains by Sunday. Will be good to catch up for a drink afterwards too. See you there.
  8. Isn't that when you start looking at new boats and contemplate testing the market?
  9. Well the weekend lived up to all expectations with twenty seven starters. Course 1 was the right one on Saturday and most got kites on early. I was a bit slow out of the blocks after a week with the bott but finally got going with a fractional. Good speed and an OK angle but was pinned under the Unitec with it's big blanket taking all my air. As the breeze got up I finally managed to crawl out from under and get some speed on. Best burst was 11.5 while Carey was downwind with a beautiful wrap. Hung on to the kite until I had a good angle up to Piri. Repacked the kite on the reach and re hoiste
  10. Good eh!! And this is just a start! Remember the web link I pasted on the first page.
  11. Cheers Josh. We have a bigger fleet this year and are looking forward to a good series. .Andrew has organised a pretty good lucky draw series prize for all who complete the series and are at the prize giving.
  12. Thanks for the clarification KM. The instruction is to pass it to port which I am sure all will manage.I am sure we will all give it plenty of room.
  13. McKenzie yellow would be an acceptable alternative or we could use the yellow buoy just north of Rangi light. I was trying not to have the fleet cross the shipping lanes more that needed. Would need to know that we can't use one as a course mark though.
  14. The question that I keep asking is 'if I am getting in to it which would I prefer. When you need a like raft that's what you need. The wind chill in a cat 3 raft would be significant as would the bailing issue. Owning a raft and getting it serviced is still the cheapest option in the long run. It doesn't take many hires to cover the servicing costs. Mine has to be serviced every three years. get it packed to cat 3 and have a grab bag with the items required for cat 2. Rafts are the same price that they were 7 -8 years ago so are relatively cheaper than they were. I always like to look of t
  15. The question begging to be asked is: Why would you hit it? You can't say the same for the yellow buoys most look like they have spent a season at Waikaraka Park.
  16. Boats are always sailing through the channel. That's why ships have loud horns!!
  17. My job not so technical. Cutting flags and banners.
  18. Competitor shirts are looking great. It helps when the sponsor also has an apparel business.
  19. No we;re, not scrapping the mark. Is the a reason why a fleet can't pass No 1 buoy to startboard? If we take that mark out it is just a lazy reach up the coast and you're not getting off that easily.
  20. B bouy referred to is No1 buoy. Sorry for the error I will get an amendment to the Pons.
  21. Predict wind set up and ready to go. Will add interest.
  22. Twenty paid entries for the series so far. Good eh. If you can't do the series come and play on Saturday, have some fun and enjoy a sail back Sunday. Nothing ventured.......
  23. Sixteen entries to date. Shaping up to be a fun series. More multies would be good.Who else is planning to join in?
