yup - when he was meant to be isolating, he went to many places.
I live in South Auckland and I work in a business that used to be large prior to covid.  Its one third its old size, but still a big employer.  Its staffed by south auckland people.  Some of them have kids, grandkids, brothers and sisters at Papatoetoe High.
They are doing everything they can to minimise the risk to themselves and their families.  They are complying with a set of protocols above and beyond our existing tight production controls.
They understand what it means for them and their community.
And now, they are pissed off that some people (this particular person is just one example) have put their jobs, their schools, their churches and temples and social events, their homes, their families at risk.
So the individual could go to the gym, or buy a burger, or whatever.
Some people here and around are framing the government's actions as some nanny state-ism.  Apparently "Jacinderella" is both over reacting and under-reacting, listening too much to health advocates and reacting to much to business pressure, letting too many people in, and stopping true kiwis from getting home.
Yeah, there are some mixed messages and people MAY be confused.  But the mixed messages are not coming from our government and its officials, and confusion is not a valid alibi when you have been directed to do something but figure its leg day and so what the hell.
Perhaps we do need compulsion and health directives.  But I'm already hearing the reaction and it sounds like 10.38pm on Thursday evening on Newstalk ZB

    Agreed MH, it's a RORT!
    But it's section 1.5;
    1.5 COMPLIANCE
The requirements of this Standard shall be used in conjunction with, but do not take
precedence over, statutory regulations that may apply in any area. Where no requirement is
given, good practice shall apply. In a matter of uncertainty, advice should be sought. This
Standard applies to new installations, alterations and extensions commenced after its
publication date or the date of adoption by the relevant Technical Regulator. It does not
apply retrospectively to existing installations, but any repairs or modifications to existing
installations shall comply with the requirements of this Standard.

It can track thru ply a long way. Ideally you need to cut it out as far as it is wet/rotten/soft. Then it must dry before repair. You need a moisture meter to test when it's dry enough, and it can take a long time to properly dry. You can buy a moisture meter (stanley) from bunnings for a reasonable price if you can't borrow one.
This is why fixings in or on ply hulls should be drilled oversize, filled with epoxy, cured, then drilled to suit fittings. But usually they are not.....

Pulse charging doesn't work. Nor does adding additves. You may if you are lucky, get a short term gain.
The best method is as follows. But firstly a warning. You are working with Acid that will eat clothing. So careful. Wear decent rubber gloves. Wear googles. Have a water hose on standby that you can douse yourself under should you splash any on bare skin.
Place down a decent plastic ground sheet. Get a large plastic container that allows you enough room to safely tip the battery upside down. Tip out all the contents. Lots of black muck will come out. Then pour the Acid into a safe container you can screw a lid onto and leave to settle. Pour the black muck into another container and you can take that to the Transfer station and dispose it as toxic waste.
Now get the hose and flush the battery cells out with fresh water. Leave to drain. After it has drained, pour the clean Acid back in. Try not to let the dregs that settled get back in the battery. Also add equal amounts to each cell. Top up each cell with distilled water. You shouldn't need any acid. but if you do, you can get clean fresh Acid from a Battery guy. Then charge with a good hard charge and see what happens.
Once Sulphate has gone hard, it cannot be turned back to Lead oxide within the plate. Only soft Lead Sulphate can be turned back to Lead Oxide. Usually you can't leave a battery in a low or dry state for long before it is unreversable.
The Pulse charging was about knocking the hard Sulphate off the plate. But as the depth of lead Oxide on the plate determines the capacity of the battery, having anything removed only decreases capacity. So the battery will never return to anything like original. You have to weight up if the above exercise is worth doing in regards to the amount of capacity the battery is going to give you.

And said sailmaker is supplying sails to the class at his cost price so he is doing his bit to help grow the class. The sails that are on all the old boats are at least 22 to 25yrs old so upgrading them is needed to keep the boats going. Rigs and foils also need to update as most foils were wooden cored and absolutely rooted as are the old alloy rigs and the carbon ones on offer if you assembled it yourself your up for about 20% the cost of buying off a mast builder so all the right things are been done to keep costs down.Any old usable gear is handed to other guys for no cost to them to get boats out there. At the end of the day there's limited supply of older boats out there in the 90s 10 boat nationals were common so only way to build a fleet with limited stock is build new boats or bring boats in from aussie for example. Still cheap yachting look at the cost of a new laser or starling for example or the cost of a new beiker moth at 40K plus this is a drop in the bucket. Should be 20 boats sailing by mid year so not bad for something that kicked off as a dream mid last year.

I have a kiwi prop on a yanmar 30 with sail drive, when it starts to labour the motor going into reverse it is time to grease the prop, the center hub doesn’t like to get dry, usually after  about 8months operation it needs a grease, 5 min job during a lift and wash, otherwise no issues, prop is approx 10 years old and still going well

Island Time reacted to Fish in The Wild West Gulf
I had a situation off Gulf Harbour the other day when a guy in a yacht came out, wasn't keeping a look out (wasn't on deck), and needed to give way to me. He didn't cause he wasn't on deck. I went behind his stern close enough to exchange words and suggest he keeps a lookout, esp just off the marina where its moderately busy.
But here is the thing. He didn't hit me, I didn't hit him. We both went on our way. I don't think any of that justifies more regulation.
Remember, there are plenty of people with drivers licenses that still drive like a w^&#$@r...

If the most commercial part of the LPG systems are removed, the industry will go away, or at the very least, become very expensive. The creation, storage, and distribution of LPG is an expensive business, and just would not be viable without the large commercial quantities.

Yes, I agree the responsibility lies there ultimately. However, people are fallible an in this case the government has taken advice from the countries health specialists and scientists, and engaged other people to see that this work is done.
In my opinion, with the sheer numbers coming through the border, even with the current quarantine requirements, it was only a matter of time for a leak of the virus to happen. At this stage it looks like this one will also be controlled, and the government certainly needs to examine and respond to the results of these investigations and the advice of the professionals, to minimize the risk in the future. This is a learning curve for all involved.
Although I know a lot of you seem to hate JA, I don't believe any other party being in power would have made any improvement to our current situation, in fact I think if national were in it would be substantially worse.
To blame JA personally for this is IMO childish. She does not make the decisions alone, nor does she personally carry out boarder control or quarantine.
Many on here complain one day the lockdowns are not required, the quarantine is too harsh, then moan just as loudly when a mistake happens.
Well, also IMO, NZ is a bloody good place to live, we've been free to go sailing over the holidays, when much of the world has not. Virtually no-one here has lost NZ based family to this pandemic. Most of the world cant say that. Count your blessings.
Can we do better? Sure, of course, and we will...

This is the same nonsense as the US political system mess. How exactly is our prime minister responsible for this? And why should she lie about it? Proof or it is fake news.
There is no restriction on leaving NZ, you just have to quarantine on return. This was done. This person tested negative. The real question is how is it that they tested positive after release? The tracing is underway, and the doctors an scientists will be trying to find out exactly what, and how, this happened.
To try to blame JA for this is propagating the Qanon type rubbish.

Island Time got a reaction from aardvarkash10 in newbie question - what is this number?
The tonnage is not displacement, but the theoretical cargo tonnage, known as Thames Tonnage. Often carved as NTxx . Island Times one is 13. No way she weighs, displaces, or could carry 13 ton, but it's a measurement of the space inside. IT'S actual displacement is 7-8 ton dependent on load.

To me this trend of distrusting everyone, including/especially the experts, unless there is actual evidence, is ludicrous. This is the path that the US have gone down - do we really want to go there?
I have family - and friends - that have worked with and on the covid app for NZ. It does exactly what the public info says it does, and no more. It has been peer reviewed by several organizations, and all have signed off on it. I'm happy to use it, and my bluetooth is turned on.
The vaccine companies would be ruined if their vaccine proves to be an issue. Several have been delayed and or altered during testing, due to issues being found in testing. This is as it should be.
As Erice says above, MILLIONS of vaccinations  are  being done now, and we have a few  more months to go before NZ will get any. This is not purely down to cost etc, its how the distribution  model was intended - the greatest need areas first. There is, as always, some corruption, and some of the wealthy have and are obtaining some first.
I'll be happy to take the vaccine when it's my turn. I just hope that is in time...

People are fallible. You want a 100% cast iron guarantee? Not possible. Its not even possible to guarantee that you'll be alive in a few hours...
Still, most of the people working on this stuff at the front line of development are doing so with the best of intentions, and I would rather believe the scientists than any layperson.
