  1. The band on my one came off. Had to put a new band on but the Yanmar guy who serviced it said I hardly needed to worry about it as the leak alarm would let me know and also that it would only be a slow leak if you got one. It's quite a basic seal really.
  2. A sight glass is a good way if you don't want a gauge. You can put calibrated fill marks on it as you fill the tank, easy to make out of clear PVC and fittings.
  3. Has anyone got any first hand experience with the trukit? https://truekit.nz/collections/all/products/true-kit-discovery?variant=30006782022 I need a fold up boat rather than a hard bottom one.
  4. Did some work on that one a few weeks back, fast ride.
  5. Great report, very very interesting.
  6. It's the same service just 4G and uses the cell networks for connection. If you are using a hotspot you wont' notice anything greater in speed or service I'd suggest. Nothing new really at all.
  7. I sailed through that stuff in 2006/7 around Tonga, was really abrasive, some of the chunks were huge. At the time we had a steel boat, really worried about losing the paint but it was fine, however it really did clean up the antifoul.
  8. You are right BP. Apps work and will be the future I think I sort of agree IT however we all have back up GPS systems and charts, but to be fair i've had many more issues with chart plotters than I've ever had with Ipads, the recent Raymarine updates are a great example of complete BS. For non IT experts they are excellent compared with their complicated but cheaper sisters raspberry pi's etc. Have a look at https://www.weather4d.com/ it covers most of the areas you raise and on an Ipad. My Wifi radar works fine by the way. I like simplicity and lack the time or skills to w
  9. True but the world is changing fast. Navionics now supports AIS on Ipad. We are toying with using https://www.weather4d.com/ on new boat and ditching chart plotters altogether. The Radar runs on wifi and app so don't see much use for a chart plotter any longer. Saves a lot of cash and you still have all the instruments on the back bone and AIS. Besides I rarely use the Chartplotter on existing boat. The ipad is just easier to use.
  10. In the end it's coming on a car transporter for $500 down to ChCh, thanks for all the advice went with this as it's the easiest option.
  11. The guy i bought it off can deliver it so that might work will ring them Monday.
  12. Mate was really thinking about that. Was just imagining getting the tide wrong in Tory channel, might be fun without an engine!!
  13. Hi Team, I'm looking to move a Weta Trimaran from Wellington to Picton, it's only on a beach trailer. Does anyone know the easiest way to do this? I had a quote from a freight company that scared me greatly!! Thanks Tim

    Boat wrap

Thanks good advice, looks like all systems have their pro's and con's.

    Boat wrap

Thanks Mate, I will look into it some more regarding rolling. Good point about removal of the wrap, had not thought of that.

    Boat wrap

Looks good. I just like the idea of not polishing and minimal cleaning. No fading also. I was not considering doing a hand paint job, does not really compare with spraying.

    Boat wrap

Does anyone have any updates on wrapping a hull? Considering it as an option instead of a repaint.
  18. Special permission must be granted by Customs New Zealand (external site) to enter the waters or stop at the Kermadecs when travelling from overseas to or from New Zealand. The requirement is that you travel directly from one customs clearance port to another customs clearance port.
  19. https://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/113486084/abandoned-boats-costing-auckland-ratepayers-thousands-of-dollars-annually?cid=app-iPhone&fbclid=IwAR2qgeDh_Zyhcp75p4wJ67k3W7CF6C4G3d8okqyxnirDOoG5f6h-0DzM5Ig This concerns me, it gives the Council an excuse to remove moorings in the future.
  20. It's a long passage, might simply come down to wanting to get off the boat before a smaller problem becomes a bigger one. I've done that passage and it's a boat breaker, we never got off the wind really the whole way. It was a daily job just keeping on top of chafe and wear and tear. We also had issues with rudder bearings and also leaks. The B42 is not too bad a boat, anyhow i'd rather be in that than something wooden, Geez the amount of whales we saw was incredible and we never hit one of them which was amazing.
  21. And here is the latest on it. https://www.pressmare.it/it/comunicazione/press-mare/2019-06-03/my-song-baltic-130-loro-piana-recuperato-palma-21015
  22. Auckland Airport - cheap parking, had to laugh there!!!
  23. They are truly insane cool looking boats. I would love to have one in my marina berth but not pay the associated costs
  24. Hmm in reality it's probably about right. The old sparks costs are mounting up these days, you would be shocked how much the most basic things cost. However I do think the work seems a tad rich, more around $ 1000-1200 would be about right I think. Depends what it includes of course.
