This is supposed to be a sailing forum and all you discuss is motors of various types...

Replace rather than repair.

A couple of OGR links....
This video should be of interest:
There is no mentioning of its creator Collin Forbes who filmed it while crewing on Burton Cutter. His copyright was not respected when Volvo (I think) uploaded this video version on youtube.

Very cool!
We have sleet here as a warm front moved in. Not cool at all.

Daniel Defoe's compilation of the damage is fascinating stuff.

Hello Martin, yes I am still around! I retired from Academia 12 years ago. Re friction and boundary layers (and other yacht design topics) I published an ebook 3 years ago that might be of interest to forum readers. Not sure of the forum policies on advertising so I will just say that if you Google my name and yacht design, it will get you there. Dr Kim Klaka
Hello indeed,
Found your web site. It looks like there is some fun reading to be had there. I will 'bookmark' it.

We are all for contrasts now, aren't we? I mean J's, dinghy around Tasmania's NE corner and now Greenland.

Maybe not so neat but normal boats participating in a popular 'round some island' race on the Swedish west coast. Filmed by an amateur overlooking a narrow straight between two islands. The only unusual thing is the wind direction.

Hi @MartinRF yes that's who we tried. My partner is Swedish, so she wrote to them in Swedish a month or so ago, we will be in Stockholm in a few weeks so we were hoping we could pick one up.
They don't have in stock they said, so it appears to be a ghost product nobody can buy? #frustrating.
Any good Marinas worth walking around while we are in Stockholm?
Marinas in the Stockholm area are a bit odd by Swedish standards as they are mostly 'gated communities' -- members/customers access only. Locked gates, barbed wire... There are a few exceptions. The marina hosting my boat is one of them but not located in Stockholm but some 20 km to the south-east as the crow flies: https://www.ksss.se/en/ksss-harbors/saltsjobaden/ The train ride there is partially very nice but a major track maintenance project means there is no train now. Replacement buses are not as nice as roads and tracks are routed differently.
Within walking distance from down-town Stockholm you have places like:
https://stockholmsfotografier.se/långholmen.html (club harbour with older, wooden boats)
https://wasahamnen.se/how-to-get-here/?lang=en (guest harbour only, not a regular marina)
https://vss.nu/hamn-varv/ (club harbour, no dock access but a good overview is provided)
https://biskopsudden.com/en/ (no dock access but you do get fairly close)

Who have you been in contact with in Sweden? The Swedish contact listed here?
https://silvasweden.com/pages/customer-service
I do notice the Stockholm office lies withing walking distance from where I live but I would wait with contacting them. Right now we are in the middle of summer vacation in Sweden so staffing may be a bit sparse.
If manufacturing is in Asia it is less likely they have any southern zone specimens in Sweden. (me guessing)

Nope, but yes to different corrections. The earth's magnetic field is not identical everywhere.
Mostly compasses are northern hemisphere or southern hemisphere from the supplier.
Then a compass adjuster can correct for actual locality .
How do round-the-world sailors deal with this?

I have a 60C (bought in 2004 if memory serves) but can't help you as it still works and is used.

DO NOT USE THE Washing machine- It will bugger them. Pull threads out etc.
I have done it yearly for about two decades with no ill effect. I use mesh 'bags' to avoid major tangles and I do not wash anything with metal hardware. Bare Dyneema is also kept out of this.

But also one of the most pleasing ways to go somewhere.
Btw, it is not uncommon for me to out-pace sailboats motoring -- even to windward.
