  1. I have never had the MH Genniker up too long in a nice breeze approaching Bean Rock fast with the wife and kids on board and ended up with such a bad wrap that the forestay required removal to get the sail off.. And thank God there was no-one there to take a photo....
  2. Both vids scared the hell out of me, but the first one just looked like they were asking for trouble. Those bows didn't look like they had much reserve volume left, but I don't know much about cats. The second vid looked more under control but some of those waves!!!! I wouldn't be out there on purpose!
  3. Really happy for them that they got it back. Pretty tough to start again at 70. That was a hard account to read!
  4. That is just ridiculous. What a waste of money.
  5. Second that on the quote from Sterling Hayden. Very good.
  6. Nice one Adrian!! I don't think the loadcell will cope with that one!! Living the dream mate!
  7. Excellent ending. I wouldn't have wanted to be drifting in a launch on a Lee shore in that! Really happy for them..
  8. You can easily cut it down. Just a hacksaw job. Forestay might be a bit loose in the groove depending on diameter. Foil is in pretty good nick. Had no issues with it in the first RNI. Yours if you want it!! PM me for Ph no and address. Cheers!
  9. Yeah, those reefing jibs are great. 2 for the price of 1!! Changing headsails with hanks is slow. Big advantage is you don't lose the sail over the side. If I did it all again I would go for multiple roller furling headsails. Great for 2 handed offshore..
  10. Gone to Hanks before the last RNI. Better for 2 handed racing, although I am not 100% convinced! Tried to sell it but no-one interested so Crew get first dibs!!

    Keel bolts

When I fitted the new bulb to the Marshall we got 2205 stainless steel studs machined up to bolt it to the fin. We pulled the old 2205 studs out. They had been in there around 10-12 years and were in perfect condition. 2205 is designed to be able to be submersed in seawater and be corrosion resistant.
  14. That's pretty good progress in 4 days IT. Bravo! Hard to get out? I think I have to dismantle the galley to get the Marshall's engine out.. How many hours on your engine out of interest?
  15. This is really terrible. I truly hope they find him and he survives. Gotta agree with KM that it is hard to believe they cannot get to him super fast. 6 hours????? Not looking good.
  16. The hole could have been the prop if it went right over the top of the boat!! What A-holes. Hope they are caught.
  17. Sad to see this one. Looks to be totally avoidable.. Look forward to reading the real story on what was wrong with the boat.
  18. What will be happening is fewer people claiming, under preasure from employers as it puts their rate up. I don't believe for one minute that all this H&S bollocks has improved workplace accidents at all.
  19. It's that kind of prediction, backed up by no factual evidence that carries on the H&S myth. Safety glasses mandatory on a building site is bollocks. As are Hard hats when there is nothing to fall on your head. If there is nothing overhead, why wear them? Hi vis vests where there are no trucks/forklifts/cranes operating? Ditto. It's just slavishly following H&S "fashion" through the fear of being "Nailed" as Beccara puts it. Give us some examples!! I agree regarding the money issue. We have the same problem offshore in the oil industry where time really equals a LOT of money, but often
  20. An excellent article in DEMM (Engineering industry) magazine by Barry Robinson puts very eloquently what I have been saying all along: Don't put up with BS in H&S Tuesday, 03 October 2017 Are you being suckered by the H&S gravy train? You can save money immediately by reading the following. Test and tagging of electrical appliances and leads is NOT a legal requirement in NZ industrial plants. If you Google it you’ll find any amount of references convincing you that it is a legal requirement, but follow those links and you will always come to the test and tag industry many of whom

    Rogue

Loving the vids Josh. Your boys are bloody busy and noisy aren't they? I guess your ears are accustomed. I have forgotten what it's like!! Big ask all that travelling. They will laugh when they watch these in 10 years time!! Keep them coming mate. Good work!!
  22. Great to hear the boat is OK. Amazing how fast things can go pear shaped!
  23. I texted one of the owners. No structural damage and all crew OK. Reckons the bulb might not be so streamlined any more but otherwise OK. Main blown out... Tough buggers those Ross 40s!!
  24. I just heard this this morning. I hope damage was not too severe and all on board are OK. Great bunch of guys on that boat, and of course it is just the coolest boat as it is a Ross 40.
