  1. That's a cool video BP. Was it my imagination or did the bloody anchor fall off at 9'16!
  2. E749 take a chill pill or have a couple of rums b4 you start - I did this exercise a few years back pre xmas trying to get away on time and it was hot/humid and a surprisingly challenging task. No pressure - but if you get it wrong the results are disastrous.
  3. I like the idea of that Wallis system DrW. I have a Mariner Princess and bloody good though it is, a)when I have taken it to be repaired by Marine Stainless I have never felt entirely happy with what I perceive to be unwillingness to provide a fixed cost. So much so that although one of my 'strikers' (makes the ignition spark I guess & maybe I have the wrong word for it) no longer works, I am unwilling to go back because I am worried about the repair cost. LPG is such a pain in the arse. Well - just the storage of it and need for gas lockers etc. I'm thinking electric powe
  4. Bugger. I bet both Tom and Blakey will be stewing about this. She is a piece of our history - no less than the big boat. Very sad.
  5. I sense a minties moment approaching. Pictures or it never happened.

    Quayside Marine

Unsubstantiated rumour I heard was that Quayside are gone burger, assets sold and the head honcho AWOL. Just sayin' - that's what I heard.
  7. Jesus wept . I would think the tug boat got its prop fouled on something dangling off the fugly thing and can't get away from it
  8. Bring them back. Ditch the cats.
  9. Rushman, please stop encouraging him - your tag line says it all.
  10. Ummm - a Fergi? Drove one on a farm once - although that didn't end well and I don't think this what you mean anyway.
  11. Hey Erice - did u get the vane that Willow was offering ? Assuming you did could u let me know what model it is. I have a mate who has an old Plastimo Navik A77 and we think its missing a vital bit. If you do have it and it is an A77 some pictures of the top end of the hydrovane assembly (where it connects windvane arm) would be really helpful. I'd PM u but it doesn't seem to work, not sure if there is an issue with your message box.. If it wasn't you but the person who did obtain it reads this, can you mystery buyer, please reply instead?
  12. thanks - that seems to be the opinion most people have too.
  13. Kevin - thanks, but I know that. I'm not going into the whys and hows, lets just say it was not an issue when I first took the mooring.
  14. I've recently discovered an issue with a concrete mooring block versus keel on my yacht and needless to say the block won. Without going into the how and where, should I be worried and do a claim against the responsible parties insurance or do I just take to the damage with a hammer and panel beat it? I am unsure whether the keel is glass sheathed or not. . The boat is only 40 years old so I guess it could be sheathed.
  15. Monitor gets my vote. I have one, just not fitted (yet) - they seem very strongly made and look like they could take a pounding. On the Scanmar web site they note Garhauer NZ as the local agent,so support and advice available here, and I also see they have developed a pivoting, centrally located system. The body of vane located on c/l (behind the rudder) but able to be swung out of the way like a door. Not sure I like that but they have more experience than most with these things I would guess.
  16. Back in the day when the Around Alone race used to come here I became good friends with Robin Davie - who did that race 3 times I think. If there is any doubt about how good and durable wind vane systems can be have a look at his comment contained in this link http://www.selfsteer.com/products/monitor/BOCAA.php I may have screwed the link up... You got to remember that neither a wind vane nor AP system is the solution if your sail plan is over powering the rudders ability to make the vessel hold course. The boat is telling you something when staggering sideways on her ear, and if you

Pull the other one Meister - are you saying the foredeck gentleman just said "oops wrong way". Surely he had something more colourful to say than that Looked like fun.
  18. Hi Matt - thanks for the effort you put in, was informative and interesting. Why anybody would go to a retailer and buy from a plug & play sales person with little interest apart from next pay day I will never know. I know you're in it for the food you have to buy too, but in my experience when someone says "I'll tell you this and btw it cuts me out of the pay day line up" - its probably worth a listen! cheers.
  19. Perhaps this topic should have been entitled "who gives a rats arse that the farcical sitcom is back on again" .
  20. Like this one? Nice. Where would you park a beast like this though? Seems that decent moorings are getting harder and harder to obtain although I guess it doesn't matter if the tide goes out eh?
  21. I had one as a first boat. Awesome design, good sail boat, easy to single hand but it is a little boat. Having 'Footloose' made me look upon the approach of that bloody horribleDevonport Ferry with fear. The stern wake from Kea would board the Variant and I never did look at Kea again without vengeful thoughts. Someone should send that thing to the knackers yard.
